This is my 3rd visit here. I love the park for many reasons. It is gated, clean, close to riverwalk, and they have a great walking/biking trail. I had family stay in cabins there since they don't have RVs and have enjoyed it. The activities, available food for purchase, playground and fishing is all you need for a camp ground. One of the staff's children wasn't so nice to my niece, but the rest of the staff was just fine and typically are.

We didn't intend to stay on San Antonio for two weeks, but that's just what happened due to RV and car issues. The KOA here has been great. They had a bunch of holiday festivities and fun things for the kids, including a train ride, movie night, hot chocolate, ice cream social, crafts, and more. The grounds and facilities are updated and nice. We got a site right next to the playground, which was very convenient. The lodge area has a bunch of board games and a lovely Christmas tree. The hall has giant connect 4, tables for hanging out, and lots of space for kids. The cafe has cheap pancakes which my kids have described as the best pancakes they've ever had. The campground is located about 5 miles from downtown, so it's pretty convenient. We were even able to take our e-bikes into town when we didn't have our car. Great overall experience.

Big hall for banquets and such.

We loved it. Easy check-in. Jeff the manager at time was very professional and helpful. We had a guide drive us to our site. Ample parking for my 45 foot RV with jeep in tow. Great amenities, pool was very lovely and refreshing. We stayed two days. Close to the Alamo and River Walk. We met super nice campers near us and shared lots of laughs and stories. I'll definitely return.

Hanging outside in the nice chairs in the shade at the park.

We recently stayed here as a layover on our way home. I have to admit, the location is very sketchy and in the center of big rig businesses. There are 18 wheelers driving by all day long. We have a large set up, dually and 45ft 5th wheel. Our pull through spots was a little tight to get into because they are all back and forth spots. So our neighbors had their truck parked right at the edge of the spot we had to pull into. We made it work, barely. However, the grounds were very nice. My kids loved the playground and there was a football game going on all day long for my boys to take part in. My smaller kids loved the train ride. Super cute gift shop. We did not explore the city, we have been there before. The pool was FREEZING and very little shade. We will definitely stay here again for a layover if needed.

Mgr Kelly is awesome ! She truly cares. Every one worked hard to make campground clean during my stay. The security and lighting around the park needs improvements with the thefts that happened in my short stay. Upper Mgt seemed almost unfeeling towards the theft and campers loss. The situation was handles unprofessionally by upper mgt on duty the day of the incident in my opinion. There are shaded spots and the bus does pick up right at the campground which is VERY convienient to downtown and river walk. The head maintenance guy introduced himself to me as an ass hole and he TRULY is!! His appearance, demeanor and antisocial behavior is unprofessional especially representing a KOA. Nice place to stay def need to repair fishing poles and update 2 wheel bikes. Store is great and stocked well ice, wood and propane and 24 hour laundry

Very large and well maintained campground. There's a nice bike and walking trail next to it as well. The dog park is really nice. There's a lot of places to walk your dog. The Patio grill had a decent breakfast also. Uber frequents the place. Staff were very friendly. The day I stayed an RV caught fire. Staff and the fire department responded very fast. I'd recommend staying here if you're in the area.

Clean up the bed bugs. The property is nice and have a lot to offer for a day visit but I would recommend tent or RV camp DO NOT USE THEIR CABINS unless you want to be bit and possibly take bugs home. I personally woke up to a blood filled bed bug right by my newborns head. My family of 5 packed up and left at 3am after discovering the bug. I was refunded 100% though. I really hate this happened because my children were discouraged to even explore the activities they have after this. I absolutely loved how beautiful the property was and still wanted to explore. Maybe one day I'll return and atleast enjoy the amenities.

    Gaga ball at KOA.

This place rocks. Totally a hidden gem in San Antonio but with none of the stuck up employees you find in SATX. Everything about this place ricks going to definitely frequent here with the kiddos.

OK, it's nice, it's clean, it's dog and kid friendly, people are good, fishing pond, propane, "Yada yada, yada." What we really liked was the convenience to downtown, (like 10 minutes) and there is a wonderful green belt walkway right there for bicycle or walking trail. It runs along a the San Antonio river. We enjoy a great hike daily. The wild flowers would surprise us with their beauty. A Tornado came by very close last week and gave us a scare, then the creek rose well out of its banks for another weird experience. Then the coup de grace was the hail storm that dented up our airstream and truck. All that considered, we enjoyed our experience at this campground. We will stay again!

Ask the Community - San Antonio KOA

How far is it to the River Walk? Is it possible to ride bikes to the River Walk?

How far you guys from Riverwalk

Do you have full hook ups? and do you allow dogs?

They do have full hookups of quite a few different sizes including pull throughs, tent sites and cabins. This location is also extremely pet friendly. They even have a dog run and a walking toy along the creek.

Are there any restrictions regarding glass?

I have not seen any signs or mentioning a of glass (I am not speaking in any official capacity but when we checked in, it was not mentioned to us nor was it on any of the reading material, paperwork for email)

What are the roads like outside the KOA? Are there many tight turns? Easy to maneuver a fifth wheel around town?

Our Travel Trailer is 33feet and we didn't have any problems. Once you pull off the highways, you only have 2 turns and both have plenty of room for our 32footer

They have several in the regional area but my review is for the Gruene location. The staff are really fun and helpful (you know like when you're getting out and fall on your rear and they help you out of the water). Rental rates are fair and the tubes are clean.

I will start by saying, I don't entirely blame the business for what happened during our float, and…read morethey did try to remedy it by giving us free passes to come back - or to use another location. The main takeaways for my post if you don't want to read (TLDR): 1. This location should NOT be advertised as a float - it is seriously very dangerous when the water is low, we all popped our tubes and had small injuries from the rocks - I am glad with my injuries being small - it could have been SOOO much worse 2. Aggressive turtles and water snakes everywhere 3. The entire float route is surrounded by private property so there is literally no way to exit unless you go to the end .. The day started out great - the Gruene location was nice, we did not pay for parking as others have mentioned (not sure why we didn't). The main complaint about the actual location where you sign in and get your tubes are the rest rooms. They were not clean and the water did not work. Also, the entire place was run by children which was very weird to me. There was no one over the age of 20 working the day (Sunday) we went. A kid that looked to be literally 13 was the one to help us into the river and didn't say a word to us- just looked at us and put the tubes in the water (which I understand - I was shy at that age as well). My main concern and the reason why I am posting is that this route (in my opinion) should NOT be used by this company as an advertised float. It was genuinely super dangerous. I have floated multiple times throughout Texas and have not encountered rocks and rapids like this. We got stuck multiple times on the rocks and it took us 3 hours to just get half way to the first exit. After the second set of rocks we were DONE. Our tubes had all popped and several of us had injuries (nothing super serious - bruises and cuts from the rocks - one girl hurt her back pretty badly and had spasms) . We called the company and asked for someone to pick us up (to which another child answered the phone). They offered to bring us new tubes - which they did. The kid that brought us the tubes told us we were two hours from the exit (which apparently was not correct). Because they wouldn't come pick us up and told me we had to tube down to the end where the exit is - we decided the best option was to call the non-emergency number for the Sheriff. She told us to call 911 to get more precise coordinates for our location - which we then did. An ambulance came and the EMT's found us and were able to escort us out of the back of people's homes (we did not want to trespass on these people's properties - also there were giant staircases we were unsure if the one girl with the back injury could even make it up). Everyone was fine, the EMT's dropped us off at the entrance to Rockin R - which we were then greeted by the location's owners. They told us it had been a misunderstanding and they didn't realize someone was injured - which I literally told them over the phone twice. After the confusion subsided, they did give us free passes to come back - which I won't be using. I understand these things happen and we did sign waivers - but the company should not be using this route. Someone will get seriously injured on these rocks one of these days. I guarantee it..
