Had an ER visit and an overnight stay due to blood clots after a fall. ERs are always difficult…read moredue to long waits as they get test results back before proceeding to the next step, and are trying to prioritize your needs over all the other emergencies happening at the same time. Despite this, Dr. Mooney was incredibly good to me. He explained what had happened to me, even drawing me a picture, then told me I would be admitted overnight to the hospital. Sleeping overnight in the hospital isn't easy, as nurses come in every 1 to 2 hours to give you meds or check your vitals. The doctor and NP who visited me overnight were also very kind and good to me (Dan Marra and Dr. Ahmed). The doctors never have a lot of time to sit down and chat with you, because there are so many other people who need them at the same time, so I didn't expect it, however, Dr. Marra went out of his way to explain things to me, and was very kind to me. They bring you food while in the hospital that was surprisingly good. Everyone is short staffed and tired, as the medical system is broken, but despite everything, I am grateful that they kept me alive and gave me the care that I needed.

There are 20 people in the waiting room, and there is standing room only. Extremely poor service. Go literally anywhere else if you can, my husband and I will not come back.

First off, I've had major health issues since I was a small child, and I've seen more doctors that…read morealmost anyone else here who's submitted a review. I know what makes good medical and support staff. It seems that people are really motivated to write negative reviews when they've had a bad experience (pain meds, anyone?), but less motivated when it's good, maybe because we're feeling better and we forget it. Although I've had a couple imperfect experiences, for the most part, I've been really happy with Albany Med. I have congenital health issues that have to be managed carefully, and for decades, I lived in NYC, where my doctors coordinated everything. (I have to admit, I was probably spoiled by them.) But at this point, after several years up here, I'm content to shift everything to Albany Med. I've been lucky enough to have caring, intelligent primaries and their teams, and the specialists I've seen have been kind and competent. One staff member in Pulmonology wasn't great, but that was probably more about personality and politics (come on, in this age, who doesn't believe that vaccines are worth the "risk"?!). But I've never seen them again, so I was satisfied with that result. (There must be a note in my chart somewhere never to assign me to *that* person. Ever.) I've seen specialists in pulmonology, immunology, gastroenterology, OBGYN, and of course, primary care. Each of the doctors listened to my concerns, carefully considered my extensive records, and helped me make good choices for my care. No healthcare organization is perfect. By accepting this and allowing them to try their best to support me and my spouse through all my health mess, we've had good results with Albany Med. When you're in pain or really sick, it's difficult to be patient and understanding, but if you can allow yourself to remember that the doctors, RNs, PAs, and NPs are trying to be on your side, it helps. Since COVID, all medical establishments have struggled to get enough staff. We've all struggled. So my advice is to decide you want to be on the same team as the meds, not their adversaries. I DO NOT mean don't contradict them or just accept everything blindly. You have to advocate for yourself and be honest about the problems you're having. And seriously, remember that they ARE trying to help. Work with them to make it happen. (Also, if you want to complain about the physical facilities, maybe you should vote for the kind of funding needed to build, maintain, and staff those facilities.)

They really need to rethink those makeshift "rooms" in the hallways of their emergency room. Having…read moreto lay outside a bathroom for nearly 24 hours was gross. How horrible when you're sick you have to smell someone's poop. LITERALLY! It was disgusting. Just no! Some of the nurses were so unprofessional, bitching and swearing about patients out in the open hallway for us to hear, ignoring cries from people that were hurting. I actually got up to check on someone because they were yelling they couldn't breathe and nobody responded despite being in ear shot. I am not a medical professional and could only offer to find someone for him. The nurse that finally came in was so rude to him that he actually said something to her "please stop being mean to me." Every time she went into his room I could hear her saying things I feel were inappropriate for someone supposedly caring. I was actually stunned at the goings on in this ER and am surprised they haven't been shut down. People deserve better. I understand being short handed and the job is stressful but there's no reason to be rude to the people that you're getting paid to help and care for. Lose the attitudes! Nobody wants to be there! The area where I was stuck was absolutely disgustingly dirty. Blood and puke chunks on the floor for hours. I mentioned the community smelly bathroom. Gross. The patient liaison in the lobby was the nicest and super helpful. There was also a male nurse who seemed to be one of the only ones to care and really strived to be helpful so I'm thankful to those two! The doctors are super scarce and they will get to you when they feel like it. Horrible.

ive had 3 different expierences at st.marys childbirth center and ALL of them were nightmares!!!!…read morethe first expierience was intensely disapointing and horrifying. it was the births of my neice she was 5 months premature. from moment one they were unsimpathtic to my sisters situation and would not give any information w/o the doctor present. well the doctor didnt show up until after the baby was born and it was too late. they lied to us and told us they wld still try to help my neice, at least try so we knew tht we did all tht we cld. but they did absolutely nothing we felt helpless. and to this day i still wonder if we had gone to albany memorial wld things have been different cause there we know at least the wld have tried.. . . .my second expierience was wen my 1st son was born. .. the pre birth and birth went smoothly but it was afterwards wen things changed. i had an epidural so as u know you cannot gt out of bed for an hour after birth. they told me if i had to go pee i wldnt fel it anyways so i cld just pee in my bed!!! um isnt this something bed pans r made for but the said they didnt have any? what hospital doesnt have bed pains? they were jus too lazy to find me one! n i did feel the wetness in my bed i had to sit in it for an hour!! n then ay 5 AM they wake me n my fiance up so they cld move me to a different room. which i was expecting but u shld not wake ppl up for tht htey shld have just moved at like 10 instead of 5 am......and my 3rd experience was wen i gave birth to my second son this one just tops it off. i gt there at 12 am and i keep saying okay i want an epidural so start calling he guy whose gna put the needle in my back. . . i was 4cm dialated wen i got there and i knew it wld take a few hrs for him to prep n what not so i knew if they had called them then i wld have been rdy to go by the time he got there. but they kept telling me i needed to wait to be more dialated!?! ummmm hello? u only have to be 5cm b4 they give u the pain medicine. and i kept tellin thm jus call him jus call him but they refused!!! soo 6 AM rolls around n at this point my dialation hadnt been checked sience i first got there! so i kept turning my light on and for a good half hr they ignored it my supporter had to leave my side to gt a nurse and the nurses at the main deskkept saying we'll be in shortly n all i wanted was the epidural i didnt careabout wat they were doin. n the ignoring of the light went on for another hr and 1/2. i was fuming with anger but also in agony frm the pain. n then finally someone comes in and i say oo thank god have u called to set up my epidural yet? and do u know what the answer i got was? "ummmm hold on le me check with the nurse" n i said ur not a nurse? she says no im housekeeping checking if u need blankets.. WTF!!! they ignore my bell n then send in housekeeping! so i figure shes goin to gt a nurse or midwife but nooooope the housekeeper comes back in saying well hes jus finishing up on another patient. n at tht point i knew i wasnt goin to gt an epidural i had noo time left at all. i was there for 8 hrs askin for an epidural nonstop n they completely ignore my wishes. n then to make matters worse the midwife comes in to check me and she tells me wut i was fearin all along i was gonna have to do it naturally. dont get me wrong i have nothing against it i jus dont have high pain tolerance. n my mom was in the right to say ' idont understand my daughter was asking for an epidural for hrs and everyone completely ignored her.' as shes sayin this i feel myself go back into little girl mode saying mommy i cant do it crying intencely and scared out of my mind!! n the midwife PAM not sure f her last name loks at me n says i need to get over myself and grow up!!! now although she may have been tellin the truth. . .as a professional she shld not have been talkin ro a woman in labor or any of her patients for tht matter like that, n it was thier fault i was in this position anyways!!! i was angry to say the least! she was rude the whole birth n wen she was finished all she said was i told u u cld do it, umm no actually all u said to me was gt over myself my mom fiance n sister were cheering me on. and then she stormed out of my room. n this last part is prolly what pissed me off the most.and they didnt give my son a sponge bath until 4 pm n i had hiim at 830 am!!! i will never EVER go back again!!!
