I received a steroid shot and oral steroids to start taking the next day. But was told if my blood pressure did not come down or I started having symptoms to go to the ER. The next morning my blood pressure was 169/88, I was feeling a little lightheaded, headache and some pain in my left arm. I get to the ER (8:07am-according to records) and I guess all they hear is high blood pressure and pay no attention to my symptoms. I also gave the front desk my orders for my yearly blood work (I mean I was already there). My blood pressure at that time is 164/91 (8:21am-according to records). I get into the room, and the Dr. comes in an scolds me that "high blood pressure is not a reason to go to the ER". I explained the Urgent Care visit, my shoulder pain and blood pressure and I should go to ER. He pushed on my belly (one time) while sitting up. then cranked my neck to the right, my blood pressure shot up to 190/113 (8:30am-according to records). The Dr. said " I think you have something there" (referring to my BP related to my pain). Then he said "I'm going to send you home." and left the room. After 30 minutes, with no one coming to see me (mind you I took the BP cuff off as it was hurting my arm), I stepped out of my room and a nurse asked if he could help me. I asked if I was to leave. He said " no, I am bringing you meds". the nurse came into the room, and I asked what the meds were for as the Dr said he was sending me home and he said for the pain. I took it and the nurse put the BP cuff back on me, I was at 168/98 (9:29am --according to records). He handed me a bunch of papers (I thought they were discharge papers) he did not go over any of them. (9:35am --according to records) my BP was 150/94 and was told I could leave. I went to the front desk got my order for blood work that I brought in (She seemed surprised they didn't do the blood work). I then went to the lab and did my yearly blood work (which my insurance covers -this is an important part). The next morning my BP is 198/11, I went back to Urgent Care. They took me to a room, hooked up the EKG machine, gave me meds to bring the BP down and never left me in the room alone more than a min or two. Put me on BP meds and set me up with my primary to get to the bottom of my BP/Pain in shoulder. So, I received the bill from Moberly Regional Hospital $5,087.34 (once insurance paid my cost is $3,200.75 I call the Hospital; all I get is the billing (mind you they are not in the hospital - they are contracted). I asked for an itemized statement (they added my labs to the ER bill). Are you kidding me! I got a copy of the visit the Dr. notes. Half of what they put in there is not true (my symptoms, their exam or what they said they discussed). I continue to reach out to the hospital after about the 4th call I get someone to help me. They listen to my accounts of what happened (poor quality of care) and how the lab work was not part of the ER visit and it is covered by my insurance. She puts my account on hold and sends it for review. Time passes and I get a call to call them back (I am thinking it's the hospital, nope billing) they reviewed my account, everything was coded correctly an all charges stand. What about my quality of care??? I know it's not coded correctly as I have a copy of my orders, and my husband did his blood work while he was waiting for me to go back in the ER (have a copy of his too) and they are coded the same (his was covered). The lady said she understood but she could not do anything as the hospital has to make that decision and to call them. I tell her when I call, I can only get them (the not in hospital billing). When I can get over there (can't take off work - and not get paid to discuss this in person) there is no one in billing dept. When I call, if I push another button to get someone else no one picks up. Then within a week I received a bill with FINAL Notice, "if your balance is not resolved or payment plan established quickly, your account will be placed with our collections partner". I go set up the portal so I can make a payment (I was seen and given meds, so I do owe some) guess what, portal just spins can't get in. I then went to the Hospital site and clicked contact us, you get a drop-down box to choose from so I just picked general information, and, in the message part said "I need to talk with a patient advocate. Let's see if I get a response. Next time I need the ER I guess I will just have to drive the hour to go to Columbia.

A week into this, I became ill with a sore throat, cough, headache, and body aches. I went to the urgent care in Macon. I got there about 5 minutes after they opened. There was only a front desk person who told me it could be a half hour or so before the test of the staff hit there. They had to drive from Kirksville & evidently didn't factor in the drive time. It was maybe 15 minutes later, and I was seen. The nurse who took my vitals was good. She swabbed for strep. I ended up seeing either a PA or nurse practitioner, I can't remember what she was. So, I was negative for strep, so I was told to treat my symptoms with over the counter meds. That took all of 10 minutes & I was back out the door. Two days later I ended up in the ER with pneumonia. The ER doc could tell by my cough I was terribly I'll and she hadn't even seen me yet! I ended up on antibiotics, cough medicine, pain meds for the throat, and a steroid inhaler so I could breathe. I can't recommend this place unless you have a paper cut.

Three separate nurses asked for my weight and height so they'd know how much anesthetic to give me. Clearly no one was making any note of my patient information. The anesthesiologist read some medications and asked if those were the medications I was on. When I told him I wasn't on any, he replied, "Oh, this is the wrong patient's file!" My husband was told I'd be returned to the third floor after my 15-minute procedure. I was not. A second anesthesiologist said she couldn't get the anesthesia machine to work and asked me, "Why are you here? Do you have a hole in your heart?" I guess in lieu of any patient information she was reduced to guessing why I was scheduled for a T.E.E. I was there to have an initial test to ultimately repair my mitral valve prolapse. We began late because no one could locate the attending nurse. After 50 minutes, my husband asked a nurse how I was doing. She told him there was no patient with my name in the computer. An elderly woman was getting the same stonewalling; no one could find her husband. My husband was more mobile than she was so he found me on the second floor. That poor woman is probably still there. I was understandably hesitant to have Boone Hospital do further procedures on me so I did some research. The best cardiologists in the state are at Washington University and they work through Barnes Jewish, so if you want excellent healthcare make the trip to Barnes. I was impressed with my care at Barnes Jewish (my current STL cardiologist is Dr. Thakker and my thoracic surgeon Dr. Melby; they did a great job and I'd recommend them).
