My stepfather was here visiting & we wanted to take him to places we thought he'd enjoy & be able to get around well (he's 91). Since Sam Davis home & grounds aren't too far from us (and we'd never been there) we thought this would be a fun thing to do. We got there & were told that the guide was out with a group & it would be approx. a 45 minute wait. We bought our tickets & looked through the museum & gift shop. There was a video that gave all the backstory & it was quite interesting. Our guide was Rodger and he was wonderful!! We toured the home & he had interesting stories & really knows the area well! The stairs in the house are steep (just for those that might have a problem with them). You can tell where the old cabin became part of the bigger house. Loved that there were so many original pieces in the home. Recommend checking this out! read more

Was quite surprised at the quality of the tour and the interpretive center. Whereas Andrew Jackson's Hermitage was crowded and rushed this was quite more relaxed (it probably helped that there weren't bus loads of school children that day). Davis came from a prominent plantation slave-holding family and had an aristocratic upbringing. The museum makes mistakes I have seen other museums commonly do in interpreting slavery like the Hermitage - by trying to emphasize what good masters they were to their enslaved workers. Another issue would be the legend developed around Sam Davis. While the loss of a common soldier is catastrophic to any family union or confederate, his execution was not that unusual an event. Davis suffered a fate shared by many intelligence gatherers operating around Nashville. The cult of heroism that developed around him did not occur until nearly 30 years after his execution chiefly through the efforts of Sumner Archibald Cunningham, the founding editor of Confederate Veteran magazine. While the exhibit is good it would be much better if it interpreted Sam Davis's history as the Man, the Legend, and the Myth. But even with these flaws I recommend the exhibit as one worthy of seeing. read more

I didn't really even want to leave 1 star but I had to. If you're looking for a wedding venue, do not go to the Sam Davis Home. For one, the "management" or "event coordinators" told us one thing and our contract stated different things. The original coordinator told us he would provide cleaning tools and trash bags for the night after the wedding. When we asked the people in the office for trash bags they said we were supposed to provide them. (Which isn't a big deal to provide our own trash bags but we were just told differently from the beginning). You pay a deposit of $500 and you receive your deposit back if you follow the guidelines. Which is also understandable. But one of the reasons we didn't get the deposit back is because the chairs weren't positioned correctly. And when we cleaned up the extra chairs and tables and put them in the Creek House, those weren't put in the correct location of the house. Which we stacked up nice and neatly. A table was left open, only because it was open when we arrived there. The trash cans were full and we were told we would have help by the original coordinator with taking the trash out. All I'm saying is, if you plan on having your wedding there, don't expect to get your deposit back because you MUST have everything PERFECT, and in the correct locations without having a sign saying where they MUST go. It's a beautiful piece of property and land to visit but definitely not to have for any type of events. read more

This is one of the more informative tours I've been on. It wasn't just a quick run through. We went on the guided tour with a field trip group. Our tour guide was an older gentleman wearing time period clothing. He took us first out to the cotton fields and not only let us look but touch the plants to see if we could find any buds. After that, we went inside a log cabin where he explained the process of making things with cotton and what it was like to work in the fields. The tour through the house was a bit rushed because of another tour group and we missed a lot of what the guide was saying during that time because we ended up in the back of the group. I do not recommend bringing a toddler on the guided tour as they ask you to sit still for long periods of time. My son and another toddler got antsy and my husband took him outside to play on the grounds while my daughter and I finished up the tour. At the end they have a short film about Sam Davis and it ends right near the gift shop. Gifts were affordable. Normally you see things 3-4x normal cost at gift shops but it was definitely reasonable. To be honest, I didn't know a lot about the life of Sam Davis. I have a lot of respect for someone that would rather give up their life than to betray a friend. He was a true patriot. read more

Do not have your wedding here! I had a terrible experience having my wedding here this year. Not only did they make many changes to the venue that I had to rearrange my reception 3 times, they lied to me about returning my deposit. I moved 2 months prior to the wedding, and during all the crazy, forgot to give them my new address. They sent out my returned deposit to the wrong address. I admit, that part was completely my fault. But once we realized the mistake it took them 3 months to finally send me a letter stating they had changed there mind and were no longer going to return my deposit. The original deposit was $500, $250 was the amount they were going to return to me due to my guest smoking in the wrong place, I understand that and have no issues with them taking out part of my deposit. But after 3 months of back and forth, who knows how many emails, when they finally sent what I was expecting the missing $250, they wrote a nasty letter basically saying they had changed their mind and were no longer going to give me the $250 because I broke contract. I'm livid! Clearly the Tiffany did this out of spite because I actually followed up on my missing money. Do not have your wedding there. You cannot rely on the venue remaining the way it looks when you sign the contract and you cannot rely on them to be honest people and return your money. read more

You get what you pay for. Budget friendly but TERRIBLE and I mean TERRIBLE customer service. I signed a contract 5/17/16 to have my reception here. From that date until today (just got my secuirty deposit back today) they have had 6 coordinators. 6! None have been on the same page about anything! I paid my deposit with a credit card just out of convenience for me. Was never told I would be charged 10% and that I would only get back $450 of the $500 deposit. Had I known that I would have paid cash. Thankfully they understood my concern and didn't charge me that fee. I would receive emails saying my payment was due, when my mom had already mailed the check in a month prior. Went a couple of months prior to my reception to scope out where I wanted things, in which I told the coordinator we were coming and wanted to ask questions about the best place to place tables, food, DJ, etc. She totally left as soon as we got there, knowing we were coming! I told her several days prior! The coordinator NEVER even showed up the day of my reception. The only people there were the volunteers in the museum. So when it came time to mail my check to me for my refundable security deposit, I hadn't updated my address with them which is totally my fault. I take responsibility for that, however, I was told so many different things. I was told that a new check couldn't be sent out unless my old check came back as return to sender (which no one is going to do that), then I was told that a new check would be mailed in 90 days bc the original would be voided. Yeah, 90 days was 8/25. That didn't happen. So then a new coordinator came on board (imagine that) and said they would have to place a stop payment on the original. So they did that, which was $25 deducted from my deposit (totally fine bc it was originally my fault). So on 9/19 (Tuesday) the coordinator said you will have your check by the end of next week's business (whatever that means). There it was "end of next week's business" no check. No check the following week. Get an email on Friday 10/6 that my check was mailed that day. So it wasn't in maybe hands as previously stated it would be. So all in all my experience has been terrible. I should have paid more money to have it some where a lot less stressful! read more
