Limit of Redfish for six by 9am!! Beautiful cruise this morning through the bayous, sighting gators, shorebirds, pelicans and the sun rising over the coastal marsh. The ride would've been worth the trip alone. Stopped at his first honey hole and got limits of fish for everyone in the boat (including two first time fisherwomen). Markham loves to fish and holds his own with the best captains in the marsh, trip after trip. But more importantly, Markham loves people. If you have never fished in your life, or fish professional bass tournaments, you'll enjoy his company and his trip. Thanks for another great one Markham! We'll be back

Such a fun and eventful day on the water! Markham was not only super knowledgeable about the area, but very patient with 4 unskilled fisher woman lol. He was able to make these inexperienced girls feel like real fisherman, catching some of the biggest fish we'd ever seen! Not only was the fishing good, the company was awesome. Markham made us feel super comfortable from the very beginning, sharing stories, and making us laugh. For 4 very needy girls, he was very accommodating to all our requests, and him and Karen (our uber) went well out of their way to make sure or experience was the best it could be. Can't wait to come back to New Orleans and do it all over again some day! Definitely recommend Salty Dog charters for anyone and everyone looking for a good time and some good fishin.

Best fishing charter ever!

Great fishing charter, captain Marcom knows all the good fishing spots! We caught so many big fish my hands were hurting from the fight they gave. Make sure to get your fishing license prior to going out, dress warm for the boat ride, the wind coming off the water can be a bit chilly and don't forget to bring sunscreen, drinks and snacks its a long day but so worth it!

Amazing experience! Guide was knowledgeable and fun. Caught sharks and red fish all day. I even caught a 70lb stingray! Once in a lifetime experience, a must do!!

Salty Dog is the real deal!

Captain Markham of Salty Dog is a talented and knowledgeable seaman with vast experience throughout Louisiana despite his youthful appearance. He was able to get us on great redfish on an otherwise off day where most boats came up empty. We enjoyed his stories, knowledge about the local flora and fauna and just a great day of fishing all around. We will be back!

Great time fishing with Capt Markham! Was personable, knowledgeable, fun. Had some questionable weather early and he was happy to work with us and get us out fishing. Would highly recommend-- and hope to get out with him again

Harrison Canal - Bass caught on popper fly in city park

Harrison Canal

This is an excellent little spot in the park to fish. Coming from mid city down Carrollton/Wisner…read moreand turning left onto Harrison into city park, this fishery is easily accessible and offers parking right on the side of the road basically anywhere you see fit. I always park on the left side of Harrison right after the fist bridge and walk along the canal back towards midcity. As an avid fly fisher, I've fished a lot of spots along this canal with many different flies. Right off the road I've pulled in nice bluegill on small top water flies. About 50 yards down from the road is a footbridge that crosses the canal. The bluegill and rio grande cichlids are abundant right here, and I've also caught a few nice bass (and have seen even bigger bass) from this footbridge. About 75 yards down from this bridge is another footbridge. Walking down the left side of the canal (the wisner side) there are some very nice spots to cast under an old oak tree that stretches out over the canal. Bluegill and bass abound here. From atop the second footbridge here you have access to one of the most abundant rio grande holes in the park. I've seen many rios in this location every single time I've been here. Use an olive or brown wooly bugger (non bead head) to hook into a fish you won't forget catching! Farther down from this area the spots are few and far between. Most of the bank in this area is overgrown and extremely hard to cast from. If you're lucky enough to have a kayak, you can paddle down past the second footbridge and reach some really productive waters. It's not uncommon to catch 5lb+ largemouth bass if you can get to an area you can fish. Almost all the rios in this area break 1lb, as well. This canal is also home to spotter gar, blue catfish, black crappie (sac-a-lait), red ear sunfish, and red spotted sunfish. No extra size or bag limits other than the statewide size and bag limits apply. Keep in mind that Rio Grande Cichlids are an invasive species and it is encouraged you keep any that you catch. They are extremely tasty, though, so this isn't really a bad thing. Keep in mind that I wrote this review from a strictly fly fishing based point of view. It's really the only experience I have fishing this part of city park. All these waters are much more accessible if fished with bait and tackle rods. I've personally caught and identified all species I've mentioned in this review in the 200 yard or so stretch of canal reaching towards midcity from Harrison. I hope you all catch a lunker!
