When we joined PYC, we had visions of our experiences to be similar to another Club when where we…read morewere members. Early on, we learned we had joined the PENSACOLA EVENT CENTER and Yacht Club. Granted, we did not join PYC with the vision of throwing large parties but it would have been nice to be allowed to use the facilities without a two year notice. During our early meetings with Directors, even before we joined, we frequently heard members were not participating in PYC events. As our main reason for joining was the social aspects; attending events sounded good. The only detraction to our first experience was we were seated at the opposite end of the room from our friends. We soon learned the new members were seated almost in the parking lot. At one event, I was actually told, "all the new members are sitting over there. Why don't you go over there and make friends." The refrain, "oh, you're new members" was one we heard all too often. Unknown to us, we apparently had PURCHASED A SECOND CLASS MEMBERSHIP. At least we still had the restaurant but the fare devolved to be less than substandard so we just stopped going. For $100-$150 for dinner, there are other places to eat in Pensacola that offer better food at similar prices without the added costs of membership. Resigning our membership, we learned not one of the folks in control at PYC cared. Zero is the number of people that reached out to us.

I love the Pensacola Yacht Club. As far as I am concerned they have the best bartenders in town…read more who always make my drinks delicious from pina coladas to manhattans. Since I was a kid I loved their fries with kosher salt and now the grouper sandwich or crawfish quesadilla is a favorite. Actually their whole menu is good I just mainly tend to go for simple food on the patio. But I have been to many events there and the food is always good. At my mother's 50th birthday party there was amazing seafood and a cute (and yummy) mashed potato bar/buffet. Nowhere can beat it.

I recently purchased a boat in Pensacola. My broker Terry Myers suggested after my sea trial to…read morehave the boat hauled out at Pelicans Perch Marina. All of the staff at Pelicans Perch were very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful during my stay at the boatyard. I had a bottom job, fiberglass repairs, and some mechanical repairs performed while my boat was at Pelicans Perch Marina. The next time you need a bottom job or any other repairs that require a haul-out, I highly recommend Pelicans Perch Marina! By the way, they make a great cup of coffee. Thanks, Ladies and gents. We stayed at Pelicans Perch for about a week during January. The facilities are by no means new,…read morebut the staff is so kind and helpful you quickly forget you ever cared about floating docks or new power plug-ins. One gentleman was nice enough to drive me around looking for an outboard motor when I needed a ride, and the management helped work out a fair compromised rate when we realized we had to stay for longer than we planned as we did necessary work on the motor. Speaking of doing work on the boat, there are a number of very useful professional metal fabricators, a canvas shop, and expert diesel mechanics within a few minutes walk. Grocery stores are within a mile or so, as are Tippy's Tavern, West Marine (closing this month unfortunately), and theres another restaurant called The Oarhouse five minutes away by dinghy. Pelican's Perch was a GREAT find for us, and I very highly recommend it for anyone on a budget needing to do work on their boat.
