It took 3 plumbing contractors before a company could even find exactly where the leak was under the slab; the first two contractors said "around here", but could not "promise" that they wouldn't have to chase a leak; if they were wrong. After we found the exact location, we had to find a contractor who could cut into the slab, repair the copper water line, prepare the slab for re-tiling, tiling options, and repair the drywall hole - and paint. That's where Vanessa of Evangeline Construction came into the picture. She did a great job assessing what was needed - and arranged the work in a timely manner. The plumber (and concrete worker) did a great job repairing the water line and prepping area for re-tiling. Their tiler's did a great job harvesting the same tile from a different part of the house - to fix the repair area, and installed new tile for the front entryway. Where this company fell short is "fit and finish" and attention to details. Wall slightly out of square, gaps in joints. Even 1/2 the 25 or so panel latches were installed upside down. And, of course poor communication and finishing the job as promised (face to face) . I'd say find another company.

Rusty worked with me ALL summer with pricing it out, finding out what I wanted, getting the design.. etc. Renovations are never easy and we did have some hiccups but Rusty Holt made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Renovations aren't cheap so if you're looking for cheap then don't go to These guys but remember that you get what you pay for. Also, we priced around over the summer and Blue Horizon was the winning Bid so to speak. It truly was such a relief to have someone else take care of any problems that arose. There were several times that issues came up but Rusty really tried to make it as painless as possible. We renovated through The Holidays, all of them. Half of our home was gutted basically. We worked solutions to unexpected difficulties, had to have patience with others because of the cabinets being delayed. (Through no fault of Blue Horizon). In the end, we got the best kitchen we could get for the budget we had. Our Living room and dining room look amazing as well. We finished at the very end of March of 22. But it was well worth it. You can trust Rusty to make sure that everything is done correctly. Even when the homeowner tries to do something and messes it up.. like my husband did.. lol. There were so so many small details in this reno. From Electrical and plumbing, to matching the wallpaper (which we couldn't do) we built out walls because no way were we paying in money or time what it would have taken to make it completely open. And we are traditional people. My husband said he didn't want open concept so alas, no island for me. But I got everything else I wanted. We converted from an electric stove to gas, added a pot filler, replaced a window so I could have a smaller window and a farm sink under it. Patched in hardwood to match existing hardwood and refinished all, patched up old floor vents from the old AC that is now in the attic.. scraped ceilings or replaced ceilings, added can lights in all three rooms, and so so much more. We could not have done this without Rusty. He was and is invaluable. When we have another big project we will call him again. Although, I believe he does smaller jobs as well. And for the record, I didn't know Rusty or his wife before this renovation. But after working with him for almost a year, I can tell you he is a good man, with integrity and he makes sure the job is done right.

The new gutters were not installed securely and not properly sloped to allow rain water to flow towards the downspouts. The gutter guards were made of cheap metal screen wire and the sections did not meet or overlap leaving gaps where leaves and debris got into the gutter. The gutter 'screens' started rusting within 3 months. I called the company numerous times to express my concerns about the quality of material and the work performed but never got a response. I ended up having to make the 'new' gutters work as they should and install different gutter guards myself. I highly doubt not recommend Lowcountry Roofing and Exteriors for this type of work.

Both times he and his crew were professional, skilled, efficient, and impeccable in both their work and their clean-up. Unexpected problems were identified and repaired with little fuss, and we know from experience that this company stands behind their work for its lifetime. Two times over the course of the last several years, Chance came out quickly to address a previous storm problem and a leak which the plumber swore was a roof issue but turned out to be his plumbing error. That time Chance couldn't help with the plumbing leak but saw two collars around the stacks on the roof were aging and so replaced those before they could become problems. Our neighbor even came out and complimented how beautiful this new roof is and how he noticed the excellent job the crew did! A roof that draws compliments! A bonus!

I hired Canter Construction in September of 2023 to build a 1st floor bedroom and screened-in porch…read moreaddition to my home. The project manager estimated that it would take 4-5 months to complete, yet the project was finally completed and signed-off by the City in August, 2024. Here are some of the many issues that I experienced: QUALITY OF WORK: The City of Charleston failed the project seven times on various inspections: -Slab Inspection (2X) -Mechanical Rough-in -Electrical Rough-in -Electrical Final -Mechanical Final (2X) With the exception of the plumbing and tile work, subcontractors were frequently called back to correct issues with their work. This was especially true of the HVAC, electrical and carpenter trades. HVAC: While the contract called for the addition to have its own HVAC system, neither Canter, nor their recommended engineer, Michael Hance, PE, LLC (who drew-up the plans), made provisions for placement of the HVAC system in the addition. Planning for HVAC only started once the slab was poured and a considerable portion of the framing was completed. The result: I had to give up significant storage space in my garage and agree to lower the ceiling in my new bath addition 12 inches to accommodate the HVAC system and associated ductwork (a total of 209 cubic feet). In the end, the lack of proper planning of the HVAC system meant that the "addition" to my home became an unplanned "subtraction" as well (see photo). Had I known up front that I'd be giving up space for the HVAC system, I would have made alternative plans. When I realized the issue, I asked Canter for an adjustment in price as I gave up space for the HVAC equipment. Canter ignored my request. When the project was nearing completion, I again asked for an adjustment. Canter refused stating "Construction always has areas where things do not go 100% according to the plans and we must pivot." However, this particular "pivot" was caused by their failure to plan for the installation of HVAC system; a critical item required for any living space. ELECTRICAL: -The electrician did not follow the electrical plan; Outdoor lighting and the screened-in porch switches are located several rooms away in the new bedroom addition. -Exposed hot wires were recently found in the bedroom electrical box (see photo). FOUNDATION: The foundation was not built to plan. The contract specifically called for a CMU Stem Wall foundation for $7,200. Canter substituted a "monolithic pour" in place of the CMU Stem Wall without notifying me or seeking my approval of the change in scope. REMOVAL OF PERSONAL PROPERTY FROM MY HOME: A subcontractor was seen on video searching through my garage where he had no reason to be nor permission. He later emptied the contents of my recycle bin into my trash bin and took the recycle bin with him when he left. After sharing video footage of the act and making several requests, the recycling bin was returned days later.

He appeared to be very confident,…read moreinterested in doing what would be a relatively small job (a result of minor smoke damage) even while he boasted of having been approached about doing a television show and building another construction business. We needed to have the renovations done before the rental season began (late March) and agreed that, after approving the project, we would fly over to approve the work before we wrapped up. Knowing we were coming in town to further prepare the space for the season, he indicated in late March that most of the work had been done and gave the okay for our travel. In fact, I arrived three days before I was to have renters in, prepared for only a deep cleaning, and ***90%*** of the work had not been done. The place was a COMPLETE mess and, in haste, Canter Construction rushed and did a sub-optimal job and not what we agreed. My mom and I, along with my one-year-old daughter, had plans to move furniture (from storage) back in and re-arrange the space in a period of 36 hours. This on the advice of Jonah himself, who had indicated the project was near completion. We ended up paying the super-nice guys who worked for the moving company to come back one day later to help us rearrange furniture and hang pictures because Jonah pushed it to the last minute and was still not done. We were absolutely not satisfied with the work---he hung a television on the wrong wall (after clear instructions to do otherwise) and in haste re-purposed an old bathroom door to not-fit a new pocket door, leaving a 2-inch gap at the bottom that he tried to justify. The single only reason he gets two stars is because Pete, his business partner came to resolve these issues when Jonah himself was too "put out" by being held accountable for wrongdoing. Jonah was angry and flustered and too busy---communication with him became confrontational. But Pete took good care of the problems and remedied the issues. I held onto all texts and emails, given our circumstance, and would not work with him again.

I've had my walls painted in the den, living room, hallway, and entry hall. the painter also painted my cabinets on site, and did an amazing job. He indicated he didn't know what type paint the contractor used, because it wasn't oil based because when he sanded it, it had a powdery feel to it, oil base wouldn't do that. He also stated if I hadn't painted my cabinets, I wouldn't be able to wash them. They were not smooth,and had a dull finish with powdery substance on it. On a second note, he stated that the contractor did a great job with backsplash, Mosaic, flooring, building cabinets, and did a good job painting walls and ceilings, and didnt need a redo, and I agree. I paid the contractor $1350 for the painting of the rooms, and $2500 for the painting of the cabinets. Once again it is sad that the contractor cannot contact me concerning these issues or take responsibility. But if he can live with it so can I.

They really…read moreeducated me in quoting process on how some companies charge extra for each door opening they have to cut around. His quote included the full job and was competitive. They did an amazing job and were done quickly just in time for Christmas. The house was left in very clean condition which is a plus as some contractors leave a lot of debris and dust. He was even able to haul away our old carpet for additional fee which saved us much needed stress at the holidays. I plan to use again on a wood floor repair this spring.
