Holier Than Thou - Eyebrow piercing is still healing, my lobe, helix, nose and bridge are all healed though!

Never had any problems, people are always super nice and I love the atmosphere in the shop, the prices are totally reasonable (my septum is my most expensive piercing because it was at a convention, none of my others were over £30), and whoever pierces me always makes sure to be respectful, letting me know what's happening the whole time and making sure I know how to do aftercare. I've had 3 tattoos done here: my semicolon on my wrist, the text on my ankle, and my stomach runes. I'm also hoping to go there for a thigh piece in the future; I fully trust the artists and their quality, and I know that anything I get there I'm going to be happy with. The minimum charge of £60 is alright for most tattoos, though I admit it was quite a lot for my little semicolon. BUT, since that was my first tattoo and I wanted it to be perfect, I didn't really mind. I freaking love this place tbh, and several of my friends do too, and my sister loves them for piercings. I've never had a bad experience or felt uncomfortable whatsoever, 10/10 would definitely recommend!

The idea was way too thrilling. We were on the hunt and while taking a walk on the Oldham Street, we stood in front of this piercing parlour-'Holier than thou'; the name and its graphics instantly attracted me as a customer and we had finally picked our place. It's very neat and spacious when one glances from the outside, in contrast to many other dingy places in the city which give the idea of it not being safe somehow, if you're new to the constant 'piercing' world. The insides are full with shelves with any type of tiny jewellery you are looking for and this will definitely catch your eye and make you look forward to the experience. The staff was very polite and assuring, almost like the assuring nurses in a clinic! There is a separate room for the piercing which looks too clean for anyone to imagine, and thus puts the customer's fears to a rest, especially at a piercing parlour! My friend and I sat through it sequentially and the guy doing it, very skilfully engages us in flowery conversation and the job is done even before you can feel it! This place is complete in itself with a large collection of jewellery and is very helpful in case you need to go back for any questions or changes. You're also given a paper with all sorts of instructions to follow for 100% safety- very professional must say! Since then, I have been suggesting and sometimes even dragging friends for piercings here and none have left without a smile or thrill swept across their face! So if you're looking for a bit of body art and are unsure about hygiene, staff and jewellery, look no further and step right in!

Unfortunately, I am still void of tattoos so I can only review my experience with Naomi: the…read morepiercer, last October. I had been weighing up the idea of a Septum piercing for a long time: 'I'm out of work, is it sensible?', 'it'll look ubercool', 'it'll hurt loads', etc... After months of this and the obligatory 'I'm not sure you should do it (for fear of what my parents might say)' from the other half, I decided to bite the bullet and go and make an appointment with the mentality of 'if I don't do this now, it'll never get done'. So, I wandered in, all nervous like, and said what I wanted. I was told to go take a seat and fill in a form... Oh, snap! You don't need an appointment for piercings! (you do for tattoos, though. They have several very talented, very busy, award winning artists at Voodoo). My nerves obviously kicked into high gear (since I have the pain threshold of an infant girl). My other half remarked: 'you know this means you're getting it done now, right?' 'yeah' I responded in the most nonchalant yet manly way I could muster. Then along comes Naomi who takes me to the piercing room and we begin to discuss placement and how 'brave' I am for having this as my first piercing. She is very upfront with me and tells me that it is going to hurt and even shared a bad experience she had with having hers re-done. I really appreciated that. No sugar coating, just the facts. She puts the clamp on my nose and says about the position. I bottle it and excuse myself by saying 'I'll have to think about the position...', knowing full well she can see right through me. She was very good about it. I apologised for wasting her time but she told me not to worry: she was more concerned that I was 100% on going through with it. After 3 days of my stomach doing somersaults, knowing that I would be going back, I finally made it to 'the room' again. She clamped up my nose, got the big sharp stabbing implement in position, made sure I was fully OK to proceed, then, and only then, did she pop the spike through the first side of my septum, which didn't hurt nearly as much as I had anticipated (don't get me wrong, it still hurt, but it was more of a 'pinch' pain than the 'arrgghh! Just kill me now!' pain I was expecting). At this point my pocket started to vibrate: a phone call! This immediately turned my attention from the pain as the spike popped out the other side. (Having a friend phone you at the perfect moment is highly recommended, it really takes the edge off!) When the bar was through, I lay back so the ring could be put in. Naomi was very conscious of causing me any pain and frequently asked if it was uncomfortable when she was putting said ring in place. After all that was done she told me it looked ace (and, yeah, she sounded genuine. And, yeah, it DOES look ace ;)) and we chatted for a bit. She told me how to look after it as expected and even told me to get her on facebook or call in if I had and problems or questions. A few weeks later I went to have her change the ring, which was free of charge. My story is not an isolated one; Warrington has a fairly small alternative community so I know alot of people who have been pierced by Naomi, all of whom give glowing testimonies on her piercing prowess and how cool she is in general. If I get another piercing she'll be the one to do it.

I spoke to the owner Sam and asked about their hygeine procedures. She insisted on showing me around and explaining exactly how they do things - very reassuring. I've been in some tattoo/piercing places where they sneer at you for any question you dare to ask, but this couldn't have been more different, she was happy to chat and answer everything. Since the jewellery they had in wasn't quite right for my ear she recommended somewhere I could get a suitable piece (another point in favour - wanting to do things properly rather than just take my money) so all in all I went back there about four times before actually getting it done - got a friendly and helpful reception each time. It's a slightly tricky and painful piercing, but it helped that I felt assured that Sam knew what she was doing, and she was the right mix of sympathetic and businesslike. She asked me a couple of times if I was ok or needed a drink of water, but didn't fuss too much or prolong things - perfect for a wuss like me! Plus she asked if she could take a photograph at the end which made me feel like a celebrity, always nice (delusional? :p ) I ended up with a wicked piercing and some good advice on aftercare with a free bottle of their saline solution thrown in. If I decide on another piercing I'll be back here in a heartbeat.
