I am not a Yelp'r and do not voice my frustration about places, but this one needs to be heard for everyone's well being. I'm a married man and upon my wife and I's anniversary, I wanted to treat her to a cut/color treatment. While I was looking at different salons in the NYC area - I was told by a friend to call his friend "Richard" who supposedly is/was a big name in NYC. During the initial phone call, Richard went on an on about Broadway stars, celebrities, and fashion designers that he styles for and that is why he is expensive to book. I thought, "wow" I'm getting a great deal and this will be a great gift. He came all the way from PA on a Sunday, to work us in on his busy schedule. First off, he took the bus here (alarm #1). When he arrived he told us how his other appointments canceled last minute - two of them because "they were going to the beach " ..alarm #2 My wife's hair was down to her mid-back and she wanted a blonde/dirty blonde balayage treatment and cut that gave her the length just above her shoulders and angled longer toward the front. He immediately hacked away at her with zero continuity or maintaining a perimeter, nor did he section off her hair for proper cutting techniques , and did not point cut at all. He then applied the color on her head in a matter of 10 minutes (alarm #3). Cut again after and by the end of the treatment - my wife was on the verge of tears. She told him this looks nothing like the cut, and the color was WAY off. He said "it'll look different when it dries, this is how it is suppose to look..what do you want me to do?!" I just dismissed him out of the door after paying him (no wonder he takes cash) and as we walked away he said "I guess we aren't going to be friends anymore, bye." My wife was in tears immediately from the sight of her hair. It was orange with yellowish tints and the length wasn't even and the front was chopped off. This guy is a complete fraud- he definitely isn't cutting famous peoples' hair..he may have been good back in the 90s when he gave a sh!t but something must have happened because Richard is not capable of styling for modern fashion looks. He has lost his touch to say the least and needs to attend classes to update his skill set. Within 5 minutes of him leaving, I had to call a salon nearby and plead with them to take her for an emergency appointment and it took the stylist 3.5 hours to fix her hair. Well another disappointing hair cut by stylist, Rich, owner/ stylist, at Salon Chi. He claimed to be in the business for 38 years, pretty much bragged how he did hair in NY city and knew how to cut long hair. What I wanted was easy and could be done. I wanted a "TRIM" with a few layers and the line in the back trimmed up, an inch to two at best.... he took off 6-8 inches!! As he was cutting he kept saying, " less is more". My hair was grown out to the top of my butt and when he was done hacking, it was up to my bra strap. I was shocked to say the least- and that's not the worse part- it so uneven. I am a hairstylist myself so I had to try to fix the mess he made, plus now my hair is so short.....I am sick over it. He even messed with my bangs after I specifically told him not to. Clearly this stylist does what he wants and does not care what the client wants. He needs to go back to school, update his knowledge and learn the basics. Then when I called and told him I was unhappy he said , "well there's nothing I can do about it now'. What an arrogant, self absorbed unprofessional person. So if you want a good haircut stay away from Rich at Salon Chi in Carbondale PA. I would give him a -5 for the rating if I could. read more
