I've been struggling to find a hair stylist closer to me ever since I moved out of Louisville - and…read moreI have found it! I found this little cute salon after going to have dinner a few spots away. They have really good reviews on FB, so I decided to call and make an appointment to fix a cut that had gone wrong from a month prior. I was off the day I called to make an appointment, so was praying I could get in that day...and I was!! A couple hours after my call I walked in and was greeted by Michelle, who was extremely friendly. Not only was she nice, but she knew her stuff and really dug in to know my hair routine and problems. How do I typically wear my hair? How often do I shampoo? Did I notice shedding after my baby? And many more. This all culminated in the perfect cut. She not only was able to fix my cut, but designed it in a way that would allow my hair to fall into the perfect pony (which is how I wear my hair 90%) of the time. Michelle really took the time to get to know me and my hair needs, and I truly appreciate that. I may be low maintenance, but I know the value of a great cut. I walked away knowing that I had found my new stylist! It really just brightened up my day!! Not only that, less than a week after my cut, I get a handwritten postcard from Michelle thanking me for coming in. Are you serious? If that doesn't tell you how much Southern Roots appreciates their clients, I don't know what will!

I went to this salon for the first time and Katie was my stylist. I reached out to Katie asking is she could get me back in to put more highlights in and she responded saying the results I got were what we discussed in our consultation and saying I was changing my mind. I understand being a first time client that there can be miscommunication, but I showed a reference photo and stated multiple times how I wanted to be brighter and she instead put a dark color in my hair. I went ahead and reached out to the salon owner who told me that Katie told her she couldn't get me the results like the picture I showed her, which is simply a lie. I have been getting my hair highlighted for 25 years and never had an issue getting it blonde. I told the salon owner I did not feel comfortable coming back in at this point and wanted a refund since I was now being treated like I was the problem. The salon owner said Katie would reach back out to me and she did not. I had to reach out to Katie again and asked for a refund since I would have to go to another stylist for the results I wanted. She responded saying she will not issue a refund since I took time in her chair and used a good amount of hair products. This experience has been very upsetting 1. to be told I'm basically lying and 2.spending $370 and getting the opposite result of what I wanted. Very unprofessional and not what I would expect from a "high profile" salon.

The first photo is what I asked for. The second is what I actually left with. When I called to discuss it, I was told, "We're not the salon for you," instead of being offered a solution. I asked to speak with the owner, who immediately said he didn't care to see the photos and doesn't give refunds. He was rude, dismissive, and showed no interest in making the situation right. A salon's true character shows when something doesn't go as planned. Instead of standing behind their work, they dismissed me as a customer. I wasted my time, my money, and now have to pay another salon to correct their work. Hopefully this review saves someone else the time, money, and disappointment that I experienced.

She said "it's a different kind of dye so we leave on for 5 minutes" and I said that's a really long time and I think we should do 3 minutes then. She agreed and then left and didn't come back and over processed the f out of my brows, giving me dark blocks on my face that's wayyy darker than my natural blonde hair on top leaving me looking crazy. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed having Khyla do her hair. We first went in expecting a curly cut but then switched over to a silk press (what my daughter originally asked me to do). Khyla led us into discussion about the pros and cons about each and together as a team we made the decision to go with the silk press. My daughter appreciated her tender touch while detangling, and her concern for temperature at the shampoo bowl. Bless her heart I don't think she or I estimated the amount of time it would take with my daughters thick hair. Four hours later my daughter walked out all smiles and satisfaction. She ended up needing inches cut off her hair due to breakage but Khyla gave an in depth explanation why and took her time to only cut what was needed. My daughter appreciated the warmth shown by Khyla, the conversation, and the soft feel of her hair. We are looking forward to a healthy journey of hair care and highly recommend Khyla for future services.
