She is an excellent teacher - she somehow manages to impart an astonishing amount of technIcal knowledge whIle making the lessons fun and engaging. She balances high standards with an understanding of how to motivate and encourage regular playing. Sally is incredibly dedicated, kind, energetic, and talented. She is always flexible when our schedule changes and works with us to find a mutually convenient lesson time. We are so impressed with how much our son has grown and improved over the years. I was referred to Sally by our piano tuner, Victor Benvenuto. I come from a unique position being an adult piano learner. I took lessons as a child, but stopped at approximately age 10. I've been working with Sally for a little over 2 years and I've loved every lesson. Sally was easy to contact via cell (she still is very responsive via cell). She stopped by my house to first introduce herself and explain her teaching process. She was flexible and accommodating around my work schedule and agreed to provide lessons on an every other week basis. It's important to note that my prior way of learning the piano is different from how Sally has and continues to teach me how to play. I previously remember memorizing notes, cords, etc ("Every Good Boy Does Fine"). Sally goes above and beyond to explain the "why" behind piano instruction. I know that her emphasis on music theory versus rote learning plays a large part in why so many of her students are successful. Also different from my prior instructor, Sally encourages her students to learn to play pieces that best reflect their current level and interests versus completing each book to in order by completion. For example, Sally and I have worked on the adult level 1 and 2 books, but she's allowed me to dabble in supplemental pieces from other books (children's books levels 3, 4) and holiday pieces. She's very easy going and accommodating to her students' interests. Although COVID-19 has unfortunately affected many small businesses, I can honestly say that my lessons with Sally haven't missed a beat. She worked tremendously hard in buying herself personal equipment (microphone, headset speakers, iPad) to make sure her virtual lessons with her students were still effective and productive. Overall, Sally is knowledgeable, patient, outgoing, flexible, responsive, and extremely dedicated to her work. Did I mention her lessons are so much fun? Sally is absolutely fantastic! I was a beginner when I started, but with only a year of playing, I have learned so much. Her lessons are fun, informative, and great for if you are starting or have been playing for years. And Sally's personality makes it even more amazing. Sally has a wonderful laugh and is willing to spend time connecting with her students so I look forward to every class. You might think that the pandemic and transition to virtual teaching would come as an obstacle, but if anything, I have been able to progress more. I only played for about 2 months before the lockdown, but Sally was able to help me grow and learn over Zoom, and the virtual setting didn't make an impact on my lessons at all. Sally is a very go with the flow person, and allows her students to have freedom and choose most of what they play. Because of this, I have had the opportunity to play music I enjoy, instead of tedious scales or practices. She meets you where you are, so every person's lessons are different. For instance, I played cello for 6 years, and could read the bass clef, but had no concept of the treble clef and notes for the right hand. She has taught me so much, and I've had so much fun. Sally Hardy is an exceptional music teacher who has been all 3 of my kids' piano teacher for many years now. She offers excellent technical skills as well as music theory while making the lessons fun for the kids and really developing their own passions for the types of music they are drawn too. She is punctual, generous and just an overall class act of a teacher and human being.
