The gardens weren't open during our visit as they were still doing repairs from hurricane Michael. This house was built in 1838. There are three stories of house access available to tour. The house is much smaller than I expected, but the original furnishings and period clothing on display is really interesting to see. Our tour guide was very lively and full of information about the area and all families who lived in the house before it was sold to the state of Florida in 1994. Granted we were here the week of Christmas but we practically had the beach to ourselves. At the "retreat" it's just as they advertised a large gravel parking area designed for a class A camper to pull in (leaving the entrance on the right side of the unit). Pulling a trailer in will mean you back out, it also means that you may have to do a little fancy stuff to get your tow vehicle out from under your unit to run into town. We are about 48' combined and we fit without any issues. It's about 15 minutes to the closest fuel spot but just about 5 minutes to a great restaurant and general store with average selection of supplies.

We took our coffee to the beach early each morning before breakfast and took a stroll on the beach with our dogs every evening (yep, the beach is dog friendly). This site has colorful chairs around a fire pit and mature palms giving it a tropical vibe. Short drive to downtown Port St Joe where we enjoyed live music by Chris Godber at the Sister's Bistro. This was just one of the dining spots we tried, all good. This was the most relaxing vaca I've had in years. We will definitely return.

Cape St. George Light is well worth visiting while exploring St. George Island. The island sits a…read moregood distance from the mainland, and crossing the long bridge makes the trip feel like a destination before you even reach the lighthouse. The brilliant white tower looked beautiful against the deep-blue Florida sky, and the surrounding grounds provided several excellent angles for photographs. Inside the museum, the displays explained the lighthouse's history and included a particularly interesting exhibit about the Fresnel lens and how its system of prisms concentrated and projected the light far out to sea. I do appreciate it after driving hrs. We paid $7 per person to clime it. One thing I recommend do legging exercise at home and people overweight wont feet the square space to reach to the top part on the wall metal stairs you need to hold on to it to clime up very narrow whom ever has long legs will be difficult too since the steps and space don't give you room to fold them. We headed to the beach afterwords to my surprise being in the Golf coast the water was clean and warm. Not shells almost very disappointing. A few people some music playing in the background nothing disturbing. One thing I did liked was the kids box beach toy available by the sand I guess you bring it back to it. My mother-in-law had a stroke last year and thought her days shelling and sunning on the beach were behind her. The chair we rented, and the kindness of Paul and the team, gave my mother-in-law a trip to remember. Prior to finding their business, we hadn't even dreamed of the possibility of getting her safely onto the beach, let alone her getting into the water. Not only was this the perfect option for her- Paul went above and beyond, stopping by the Airbnb property we rented to ensure that the chair we had reserved would work on the boardwalk from our rental. Thank goodness he did, because the motorized option would not have worked with the setup (which was slightly different than the google maps photos). Paul recommended a great pivot to a different chair in plenty of time for us to still reserve before the holiday weekend rush. We're based in Seattle and there would have been no way for us to check before it was far too late. Thank you x a million!
