We tried Sakura recently for the 1st time while in town on a business trip. We stopped in on a Thursday evening for dinner, the place was quiet with only a few other customers. We were quickly greeted and seated. The restaurant was meticulously clean!! The food was cooked fresh and tasted delightful! I started my order with the New York roll, a lightly breaded and deep fried roll and it was amazing! For the entree I opted for the Filet, Chicken, and Shrimp hibachi. We were here on a Friday night recently around 6 pm. I was surprised there was just another couple there, and it never got crowded. However, their carryout service was really busy with people coming in and out. I ordered the Chicken Hibachi dinner. I wanted to compare it to other restaurants that offer this dish. It's served with a clear soup and green salad, vegetables and fried rice. I didn't like the soup but the salad was very tasty. The serving of chicken and rice was ample. I even took some home which is rare for me. The vegetables were delicious, the fried rice was tasty and the chicken was seasoned well. It was a good dinner, but just not as good as the places I usually get this meal. My husband got the sushi and was disappointed. He found it pretty bland, when it was suppose to be a spicy dish, and didn't like how the fish was cut up. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. The server was attentive. Since it was hard to hear our conversation due to the TV, I asked her to turn it down and she did. That is a pet peeve of mine. The food was really fresh and the sushi was fresh! The tempura ice cream was sweeter than my liking, but I'm sure you can adjust it by asking for less chocolate drizzle. The waiting was a bit long (25 min), and the interior was a bit dark. The overall experience was pretty good besides the waiting time! read more

The sushi here isn't good. It's mediocre at best. It was a great place for our girls to have their fill but the taste and quality just fall short. We had about four different rolls and without getting into the specifics of each, none of them really did much for us. On top of everything else, the appetizers were forgotten by our waitress who seemed to be more interested in chatting with her friends in the next booth over than serving the customers. Normally, this is called a dessert when it comes after the meal itself! ;) I don't believe we should have had to pay for this blunder as there is a reason why we wanted it before our entrée. read more

After having a horrible dining experience at another Japanese restaurant in Evansville, I got on yelp to find another place to eat. Then found this hidden gem! I called them to make sure they were open and if they could accommodate my gluten free needs. They assured me that they could and also alter my order to make the dish gluten free if possible. It was out of the way but totally worth the extra 10-15 minute drive. Pulling up it didn't look like much, and almost didn't go in. Do not let the exterior fool you. Not impressed, sent my son to order me a chicken hibachi lunch which clearly states on the menu it's $7.00. They charged him $11.00 plus tax. The order was placed during lunch hours (11am-3pm), as shown on my receipt. When I called and asked about the pricing the lady said they don't serve lunch on Sundays lol. Oooookay? I asked why it wasn't stipulated on the menu, she had no clear response. Secondly they put my soup in the bag side ways, there's a vent hole on the lid... Yep, it spilled everywhere- three was maybe three sips left in the container. All she offered to rectify the situation was another soup, which I ended up throwing away anyway because it tasted like bland lightly salted water, and had a lovely burnt piece of onion when I took my only sip before tossing. While the hibachi was good and plentiful, I won't order from them again, I'll stick with my trusted source, Ninki. I have a new favorite Japanese restaurant and it is in Newburgh. I have tried them all and I love sushi... this was outstanding. My wife, who is a picky eater, has the steak hibachi meal and said it was her new favorite. She said it was the best steak, sauces and rice she has had. I had the Kiss of Fire and the Amazing rolls. Two very different tastes and both with outstanding flavor. They have done a great job with the interior of the building and it surprised me how nice it was. Definitely will be going back. This is a hidden gem. There is an extensive menu of rolls that can accommodate any budget. I ordered the Indiana and Rock and Roll with a nice bowl of miso soup. Bring your business lunch here as they have lunch specials. It's a family run business so the feel is homey and not corporate. My rolls were wonderful. I eat sushi everywhere I go. Had to ask for a refill on our drinks every time, had to ask for utensils when our food came out, and the server got my sushi roll wrong. On the other hand, sushi is okay. All their rolls are very big and have A A LOT of rice. Out of the two I had (Kiss of Fire & Lion King), Lion King was the cooked roll that was the better tasting one. I had the sweetheart roll and the rainbow roll and enjoyed them both. I also had a glass a Cabernet that was a very generous pour.
