I'm not sure if Yelp is still being used, but, I think it's important to have a recent review for Sake on Flinders Lane, as quite a lot has been going on in the last few months that has resulted in this venue being one of our all time favourites.
We've been going to Sake on Flinders Lane since they opened last year (2016) - initially, I probably would have given them a solid 3 to 4 star rating, but stopped short of 5. The food was very good, and we visited repeatedly, but, I think the staff was very green in many cases and that resulted in the service being inconsistent. There were times where we sat with our glasses empty for quite a while, or, had a tough time even catching someone's eye to settle the bill...
But those days are long gone. As you may know, Rockpool Dining Group now owns Sake (and Sake Jr) and the changes that Neil Perry and his team have put in place here are incredible.
The produce (seafood) is now coming from Neil's suppliers, and that's resulted in an incredible step up in quality. Dishes have been tweaked and tuned, and the current menu is spectacular.
The service is first rate. Staff know their stations, know how to check tables for top-ups on drinks, and regularly check in to make sure everything is going well. It was good before, but, now it's great. We're recognised by several of the staff, who come over to say hi, shake hands, etc - very personal, very attentive, and the sort of welcoming experience that makes us want to visit time and time again.
Some of our current food favourites are: Popcorn shrimp, Nori Crisps, Kingfish & Jalapeño, sashimi, salmon & avocado roll, and, well, okay, just about everything else! Honestly, everything we've tried lately has been incredible.
You can tell that some of the staff are really passionate about the menu, including the wine list and sake options - they're about to refresh their list of sakes, so stay tuned for what will no doubt be some great additions.
Be aware though, Sake is not an inexpensive evening out. Good seafood, well prepared, is going to cost, but in our view it's absolutely worth it.
Give it a shot, the refinements that have been put into this venue have paid off, and we look forward to every visit! read more
