Once we touched down was immediately taken to surgery to open the closed artery that cuased the inital heart attack, it was good to see the staff were ready for me and quickly took me directly from the helipad directly into surgery to repair the closed artery, they found I had two closed arteries and explained that they would need to have me back to stent to other one.. They quickly and professionally installed the first stent into the artery. All time time the staff and professional explained everything they were doing. I spent 23rd to the 25th of December there and the staff went above and beyond to get me fitted with a Life Vest so that I could return home for Christmas. At all times when in 5 South - room 545, from the Doctors, the nurses, the aides, housekeeping and the kitchen I was treated with respect and kindness and concern for my well being. They went above and beyond in my opinion to insure my comfort while I was there. They all explained everything that they were doing and why. I returned for my second stent on January 9th, again in 5 South room 544. I was treated exactly the same as I had been the first time there. So many times people are quick to criticize and complain about there care but I for one was treated exceptionally well, they truly did show compassion and caring and were willing to accommodate where ever they could to make my stay the best it could be considering the reason I was there. I would HIGHLY recommend Hamot to anyone going through what I did and humbly and sincerely thank the Doctors, The Nurse , the aides for the caring and considerate care they provided during both my stays. I had to tell the nurse to treat her for the thrush. Then my aunt said my mom needs help eating On day 2 because she has a broken arm and is heavily sedated With morphine. My aunt ended up feeding her. the nurses were the best on some of the floors. My Mom liked the doctors but I never saw them. The nurse said she had a bit of toast. Day 4 Mom had to go pooped after being given days of stool softener. She rang for help. Nurse said she was busy. 15 minutes later Mlm crapped herself and no one helped clean her for 1.5 hours. Lastly, they told me if Mom did her PT she would qualify for UOMC Seneca and they repeatedly asked me to explain that to her. I explained that to Mom and she did all her PT and did excellent according to the PT people. Then a nurse (PA) came in and said Mom failed PT. When Mom said they said I was doing excellent and I even asked them if I could walk, they said no. Then the PA said okay, she did good on the PT we gave her, but she was never going to go to UPMC Seneca. I have never lied to my Mom. They were not transparent and gave me misleading information instead of being upfront. They had me lie to my Mom. My Mom did her part after they reduced the narcotic/pain meds. Mom cried when she couldn't go to UPMC Seneca. I would have rather told my Mom the truth. Furthermore, a NP nurse told me other stuff that wasn't true and when I questioned her about the facts, she said look, I only looked at her record just now for 5 minutes. Well, why not say, you don't know vs wing answers? also, she had a broken arm, which was n two places. The hospital decided they needed to treat an infection first. They treated the infection and never reevaluated for surgery because they just don't reevaluate. So now my Mom's arm is in a sling, and must heal in time. Original, the surgeon approved the surgery. Erie Hospital will not reevaluate older patients once they decide for any reason: no surgery, which is not like most hospitals on the West Coast. I am really disappointed as we pay for the best medical and received substandard care. My mom loved Adam and the care in the 453 wing. They were attentive and met her needs with a good attitude. The person answering these reviews is very canned like and repeats the same answers. When 10% of your patients give you negative reviews, maybe the hospital needs to supervise and retrain your staff.

Hamot needs to read this article on medical ethics below…read more . My relative went there with a horrible toothache and a proven history of past heart attacks. He was in agony due to a toothache and is not supposed to take aleve due to kidney issues Tylenol won't touch the pain for him he knows this. Aleve and ibuprofen are jokes for tooth aches and he is supposed to avoid them I am sure you are good people and mean well but your actions and policies are cruel and they don't have to be . He has no idea how long it might take to see the dentist he just realized this is acute. He already tried to tough it out with over the counter meds but at first he came here not due to pain but in fear he was having a heart attack. But as he sat here the pain got unbearavble. He is over 60 and rarely visits the ER and only does for heart issues and you could easily see that he never asked for pain meridine at the ER in the past. This time he did - --- he pointed out he slept 3 hours last night. THis is an elderly patient who has had cardiac issues has a medical history locally online and they could validate the cause of his pain. it was more than just the tooth. the first dr was very nice and was going to help find something which by the way he only asked for nerve medicine as it had helped i the past. Teeth are part of your neurological system and surely there is some nonaddictive pain medicine you can find for teeth if that is the concern. The second dr said just use aleve which is not sufficient! --watch wanda sykes on ibuprofen. We had just come back from a show and it was a weekend. We left tht show at inter issue due to his pain shooting in his face. He also had a high 175/101 blood pressure which was because of the pain! this is just cruelty on wheels. You are so busy trying to avoid drug shoppers--who would show a history of tons of visits to the ER etc etc --that you deny empathy and compassion to those who need it the most. You could have seen that he literally had a broken bone months ago but did not ask for special pain medicine. But now he was in agony and he is a cardiac patient and I am beside myself seeing him suffer for no reason at all. Please read this on the ethics of pain management. You could have just given him a few days worth. But now he is suffering greatly. https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/why-must-pain-patients-be-found-deserving-treatment/2008-01 everyone there was very nice and cordial. But you didn't give him the dignity to get the simple treatment he needed --you could have done it and you didn't. We are leaving upmc medical plan and may never go to hamot med center again. You easily should be able to see the history and figure out who is actually in pain. But hamot doesn't care enough about patient suffering to figure out a protocol to give them pain medicine that is just and compassionate . Are you a football coach telling people to just bear the pain like they are competing for some tough guy award or a compassionate doctor? get some counseling this was cruel. Read the ethics article by the AMA on this topic There are many studies showing that Tylenol does not work AT all for many people based on genetics .

However, my only complaint is the 2nd shift nurse who was assigned to me (I believe her name was Ryan). When she was putting in my IV, she was having difficulty. I told her she was causing me unnecessary pain and asked her to stop and just try again in another site, but she didn't listen to me and kept trying to get it by redirecting and the site infiltrated and fluid was running under the skin. She eventually stopped after maybe one minute of that. It was painful and I had a huge black/blue bruise on my arm for the next two weeks from that. She has no concern for my pain/discomfort and was extremely rude about it. Other than that, I have no complaints. I would come here again for any health concerns, but I definitely will not let that same nurse anywhere near me.

Very inconsiderate as it was 12:30 in the morning and woke me out of a dead sleep. The next morning was a whole different shift of employees. I had to ask 3 times within an hour for pain medicine. Also called staff for other help and was greeted with their attitude. Not my problem you are unstaffed. you have a job to do and get paid. I have no say so how much you bill my insurance. No one should have to be treated like this.
