I visited the emergency department on Monday and was in distress and extremely anxious when I arrived. The wait was about an hour, but with the amount of people in the waiting room, I thought it would have been longer. While I was there, I was well taken care of by Emily, Molly, Shannon, and Anna. I genuinely appreciate not only their medical care, but also their kindness and support in an extremely stressful situation especially since I suffer from panic disorder. They really took the time to care for my mental health as well as physical. The only reason I am leaving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I definitely didn't love the area that I was in, given the fact that there were other people being treated in the same room. That being said, the place was insanely busy and there were others with more serious issues which is understandable. Additionally, the space I was in did not have a call button which would have been very helpful given my level of anxiety; however, the staff was very attentive so I luckily was never in a position where I absolutely needed the call button. The check in desk could have been more helpful and caring, but with how busy they were, I understood that they were just trying to check everyone in quickly. read more

Seemed like everything was fine for my friend's surgery. Only concern was that they didn't wake her for her pain medication after her surgery leading to pain causing nausea. The doctor who came in immediately jumped to the conclusion that she was hooked on pain medication and tried to explain that the doses are regulated. Maybe ask why before assuming? The ICU room was comfy and a little too bright. But it was clean and the staffer who checked me in at the front desk was friendly and helpful. I appreciated that. read more

I chose this hospital for prenatal care and delivery because of its reputation and the way it is marketed as a supportive, high-quality environment for mothers and families. Like many people, I had seen mixed reviews but believed every experience is unique and wanted to go in with an open mind. I truly hoped my experience would reflect what is advertised. Unfortunately, my experience during delivery and postpartum care was deeply disappointing and left a lasting impact. During a very vulnerable time, I felt that my pain and concerns were not taken seriously, and the overall response from nursing staff felt dismissive rather than attentive. Communication was lacking, and there was a noticeable absence of urgency when it mattered most. No patient should feel like they have to repeatedly advocate for themselves to be heard, especially while recovering and caring for a newborn. What stands out most is the contrast between how this hospital presents itself and how care actually felt as a patient. The experience felt more transactional than compassionate, which is troubling in a setting meant to support new parents. I also left with concerns about how patient concerns are documented and addressed, and how easily misunderstandings can add stress during an already overwhelming recovery period. Because of the emotional toll of my experience, I would not return to this hospital for future care. I sincerely hope leadership invests more in training nurses on pain management, listening skills, and patient advocacy, as well as ensuring providers document concerns accurately and thoughtfully. I share this not to recount personal details, but to encourage expectant parents to advocate strongly for themselves and to have a trusted support person present at all times. read more

Went in Through ambulance and once I got there, right away, the Check in nurse was rude to the EMT's and told them right away that they needed to stop bringing in Patients for a while. Ok, understandable but she was pretty rude. Fast forward, Blood work, vitals are done and they send me to sit in the Waiting room for like two hours maybe three. Up to this point I understand they're busy but my goodness, if someone is having a more serious emergency that would be kind of well....it would just not be a good situation. I had originally went in with some outrageous Blood pressure levels and that was my main concern. While I was in there, my blood pressure sky rocketed once again and the monitor that lets the nursing station know was going off. Not a single soul in sight. Hours later, finally someone came in (Tori) she was great and if I left a star Is because she was kind. She did my EKG and she kept on re-assuring me that the doctors would come in soon to give me a Migraine Cocktail (I had extremely high blood pressure) Never had mentioned a Migraine. Later to find out my Blood pressure cuff wasn't even on right anymore and the BP monitor had turned off!! Took doctors maybe another two hours just to come and talk to me. I could not believe it . I can't believe I'd ever say this, but unfortunately, Denver health or Rose might just be better options, Definitely not coming back . read more

The quality of care at St. Joe's since leaving Kaiser is the worst I have ever experienced (76 years old). The night nursing staff was invisible when they weren't complaining. I had Five different Doctors in the same afternoon at St. Joe's give five different diagnoses, none of which my Kaiser cardiologist decided were the proper coarse. It was three days of disfunction. One Doc even stated that I needed no interventions at all. After my harrowing experience, Intermountain tried to stop me from checking out by insinuating that my insurance might not pay if I left against medical advice...Patently not true and likely illegal. At Rose Medical and Presbyterian/St. Luke's in the following weeks. I had a heart stent and a leg stent implanted, a pacemaker installed with a defibrillator, and two angioplasties. I believe I may have died had I stayed in St. Joe's. My advice, avoid st all opportunities. read more

The standard of care at this hospital is absolutely atrocious. The wife comes in with an infection that they treat with antibiotics. She has no surgery scheduled whatsoever (and even if they did, it would have been in the early AM and it was only 6pm at night!!)), she is down 20 pounds from previous illnesses (which is in their records because their docs treated her last time) and yet they decide to starve her for almost 24 hours for no good reason. I kept asking the nurses and they were baffled by the decision. I basically had to threaten the doctor to get them to finally let her eat. Morons. read more

Absolutely disrespectful and the staff here has no sense of urgency for a hospital. I came in with alcohol poisoning and could not walk let alone articulate. I was berated and yelled at for trying to puke in a trash can. I was yelled at for getting dizzy when I stood up to walk to the doc when my name was called. The lady taking my info down was treating me like this was a test I should have studied for meanwhile I can barely think function or speak. I was yelled at for responding to a doctor about quantity of consumption of alcohol because I said ONE unkind word this whole time up to this point so they threatened to kick me out. For one word. The behavior from everyone with exception of a nurse and one other member of staff was absolutely unacceptable. Its called health-CARE. Heck of a lot of money to have to spend in an emergency to receive medical care from a crew who couldn't get paid more to care less. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Received excellent care during a recent open heart surgery to replace a leaky valve. The entire process from check-in to surgery prep and post-op care was excellent. Got my choice of the newest, market-leading implants. No issues with insurance. Everything was approved and covered with zero hassles. Surgeon came to check on me every morning until discharge, which is rare these days. The nursing team both in and out of the ICU couldn't have been better. They were super attentive to pain management and my overall comfort. Had to go back to the ER a couple times due to some not-uncommon arrhythmia issues and was treated very well. Everyone was caring, friendly, and well coordinated with my surgeon and cardiologist in working to get my heart back to a normal rhythm. I've been tracking this issue for years while living in multiple big cities and am so glad I was able to finally have the procedure done here. read more

I went to the ER and the general staff was fine. I was assigned to Dr. Edwards. He was quiet, had an awkward bedside manner. He ordered tests but never reviewed the results with me. I f/u with the main hospital the following Monday but still the labwork wasn't reviewed. I also was concerned about my prescribed antibiotic as I still had symptoms. Two weeks later I need to F/U with another medical provider. The bill was huge and it turns out the ER was only a band-aid. Also a woman came into my room to ask a lot of questions I wasn't prepared to answer as I was in pain. She took my insurance cards and left. Meanwhile I was taken for X-rays. When I got back the cards were thrown on the bed unattended. Obviously, respect for a patient personal information isn't important at Intermountain Hospital. I won't be back. read more

went to the ER at saint joe's for pulmonary emboli. spent a couple days in ICU and then moved to the telemetry floor. i received excellent care by all staff, doctors, and nurses, the whole time. we didn't have one bad experience in four days. everyone was thorough, professional, super knowledgeable, and friendly. this was my third stay at st joe's and we've had many family members born here. they always make the list of the top 100 hospitals in the country. so thankful that they're still located in the city and didn't join the exodus to aurora! read more

Wife went for outpatient test, an arterial blood draw. This was not done. Injection of fentanyl citrate was given, without informed consent. Patient was never informed as to contraindicated narcotic having been administered prior to her death which was due to cardiac and pulmonary arrest, contraindicated based upon her being over 65 AND ALSO suffering from chronic pulmonary and heart conditions. Patient died on Cat Scan table, dead while they were still performing CAT Scan for possible blood clot which was not found. Hospital was given specific instruction by patient not to perform chest compressions should something happen. CT technician was not told this by the PA., so chest compressions were performed, leading to blood coming out of my wife's mouth, which was told by CT Technician to me. This was a clear lack of communication between PA and CT technician, resulting in an unnecessary death and unnecessary painful death. After being given the fentanyl the nurse told me she was resting peacefully. Yes, peacefully, 6 feet under. read more

The hospital itself along with the equipment used and rooms are all first class and top of the line. The internet portal that you use has all the details of your procedure and next steps. I spent a month at St Joe's for a medical issue. The nurses were amazing, almost always readily available. The Dr's were on schedule each day with their rounds. Every room is a private room and depending on needed care, a sitter is also provided for the patient. Food came to the room 45 minutes after calling room service. Was walking around deaf in one ear for at least 20 years. Beyond the logistics of the American health care system, not sure why. Conductive hearing loss caused by otosclerosis is a condition that can be treated successfully with surgery in 90% of cases, me apparently being one of those. Had a hearing aid for a while, which helped but also sucked. Working at home during the pandemic, I didn't need it to function so I started carelessly taking it out of my ear and setting it on my desk. I realized it was missing only right after I threw my trash in the dumpster in my apartment complex. For a moment, I contemplated diving in but for health and safety decided against that idea. The process was seamless from the front door, where my mom dropped her car with a valet and until checkout when I was sent home with a pair of yellow socks with stars on them. I needed to go to the hospital. I was so sick last night and I went first to Saint Anthony's big mistake. I will never go back. I was laying on the floor so sick and they just left me. We got up went to where we should've went to the beginning with Kaiser. I went in Kaiser and they right away started hooking me up with IVs and making sure I feel better Kaiser My hospital and that's where I should've went to begin with. I had a DEXA scan here in October. I received a summary of the results and have been trying to get a comprehensive report with images to take to an upcoming MD appt. I have been told there is no such report with ancillary information but I know better because I've seen other reports and know the radiologist bases the summary on actual data included in these other reports. I got a disk of the images but it doesn't load so I asked them to print a paper copy. I was told they can't make a paper copy which is absurd. I was told the tech would call ne back, but that didn't happen. This has been going on for months. I would never recommend getting a scan here. There are many other options available in the Denver Metro area. read more

I don't have one bad thing to say about St. Joseph's Hospital. I was admitted for preeclampsia with severe features and had to stay on the antepartum unit from 28 weeks pregnant until delivery (and I delivered at 33 weeks). My nurses and the staff were amazing. Everyone there became like family to me and seeing the same faces over and over was reassuring. The doctors and residents were very kind. My current doctor still says how well my c section scar healed. My baby had to be in the NICU and was there for 36 days. The nurses and doctors were simply wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a better place for our difficult journey. We hope to deliver there again if we have another child. read more

Tell me if you think this is fraud, My Dr. at National Jewish who has been seeing me for several years for breathing issues. I go in for appointment and he ask how I feel and I tell him same as alway my breathing sucks (normal), but now it feels like someone is sitting on my chest, has been for a month. He checks my lungs, they're good. Looks at my legs ( I have accumulation of fluid in lower part of legs), anyway, Dr. Starts freaking out suggest I go to ER says insurance. Will cover, thinks I might be having a heart attack. I tell him it's all normal for me except for the pressure. I go to ER I sit in waiting area 3 hrs finally put me in a room. They do x-rays breathing treatment (the nurses were great, professional) the next day another breathing treatment, vitals like 2hrs apart, another 2 hrs to get oxygen bottle to take home my oxygen saturation levels hover between 90- 85 sleeping drops to 75. The Dr says he'll send Rx to oxygen company they bill insurance. $30,000 and 3 weeks later, still no oxygen. The Dr. That started all this wants me to come back pay him again to evaluate to get the oxygen, this 3 weeks after I drove home for hospital. My primary Dr. looked at the report and said " they didn't do anything" read more

While the hospital staff here is amazing, attentive, knowledgeable and caring, the new nutritional program is awful. Signage clearly states Grill open until 9pm, but it regularly closes before 3 pm and sometimes is not open at all. The quality of the hot food items is terrible, being left over from the lunch menu, hot foods at dinner are overcooked and mushy. Cafe hours changed and now you can no longer get items late at night, night staff won't even eat the food in the cafeteria. Room service is worse, trays not being delivered at all, 50% of the time missing items or condiments, taking 2 hours to get a tray delivered. On a pureed diet, there were only two items pt could eat and the selections are very poor. Once a tray came up with whole vegetables on it which is a choking hazard for someone on a pureed diet. They seemed to be out of everything all the time which made selections worse and is depressing when you can't find something good to eat. While staying here at the hospital with my daughter, I rely on the cafe. Most times I would have to order food in because there was nothing to eat. Even the pre-packaged sandwiches sit all day and are soggy and flavorless. We had to stock our room with things we could blend ourselves so that she could eat! read more

First off, this place feels more like a hotel than a hospital. Seriously. You arrive to a neatly kept valet area, or should you choose, easy to access free parking. The valet is free as well, but tipping is polite. Entering the building, you come directly upon a front desk which, as I mentioned, feels a lot like the desk at a higher class hotel. If you are in need of immediate services, the emergency room is a quick jump to the left. If you are pregnant and ready to pop, there is a dedicated bank of elevators that go only to and from the fourth floor, which is dedicated to delivery and maternity services. We took a number of pre-childbirth classes that are regularly offered here, and all have been well worth the time and money. I highly recommend the New Dad Bootcamp, the Successful Breastfeeding, and Prepared Childbirth classes. In addition, tours of the facility are provided to expecting couples on a regular basis. The rooms are spacious, new, well appointed, and have all of the latest tech available to smooth the delivery process for the expecting couples. This includes things like jetted tubs that are big enough for mom and dad to get in while in labor. I mean the expecting mom and partner, not like his or her mom and dad, though they'd fit as well. I digress. Fantastic staff, a nice big cafe, a big gift shop... It really does feel like you're staying at a hotel. An expensive, expensive hotel. read more

I recently had a seizure while walking down the street. I was taken to St. Joseph's, and was treated for almost 4 days. It wasn't JUST treatment though, it was amazing comfort during what was a very terrifying time for me. Every nurse and PT I had were so incredibly kind to me, and somehow always made me feel a lot more calm, especially since I couldn't walk the first couple days. They were patient with me, even when I kept accidentally hitting the call nurse button, or pulling too hard on my IV causing the alarm to go off lol. Obviously I never want to go back, but if it came down to it, that's where I would want to be taken. It should also be noted that the food there is actually really tasty, and one day my nurse even brought me extra apple juice because she knew I loved it. If I could give more stars, I would. Thank you St. Jo's crew, I'll never forget you! read more

They did a pretty good with my buddy with Cerebral palsy. He was choking because of his shrunken esophagus. The service was the nurses was great. The ambiance was alright. They did take five hours though. My buddy who was choking had to sign a crap ton of paperwork. Gets the job done, but is super slow. read more

On 9/11/17 my father called me writhing in pain and was waiting for an ambulance to transport him from Brookdale to the Saint Joseph's. I was heading to school and told him I'd meet him there. He was in so much pain. When I arrived he was in ER. Tests revealed that cancer had fractured his spine. St. Joe's was amazing and had him stabilized and fitted for a back brace. The next day I met with palliative care to help with his extreme pain and talk about next steps. I would stop by after school everyday but he was loopy and not able to converse much. Thursday morning he went into cardiac arrest twice and was brought back to life 2 times that morning. The 2nd time he had passed for 8 minutes. After he was stabilized I was able to meet with doctors and immediate family to discuss prognosis. After he was on life support I was able to see him. It was not pretty and really tough. The decision was tougher but so necessary. My uncle and his best friend helped me; we made the right decision. The doctors gave us time and even gave us our own room to be with my dad one last time on Earth. A few hours later after friends and family arrived we were all able to sit around his bed and be with him as he was taken off of life support. His 6 week painful battle had come to an end. He was free of pain. His best friend played my dad's music compositions for him as he passed. The staff was extremely helpful and really made sure he was comfortable and his wishes respected. A year later I'm still grateful to the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph Hospital. I wish I could give them 7 stars. read more

I was waiting a while to give a review on this hospital due to hormones but my feelings and experience have stayed with me since. I understand COVID hit and things changed but my doctor and her 'interns' were horrific. I delivered my second child in September of 2020 and the experience was borderline traumatic. The nurses were amazing! But the doctors were beyond terrible, cold, unresponsive and just horrific people. I truly mean that. I delivered my first child at Rose Medical center and my experience was completely different. I don't know if it is a Kaiser thing because that is my insurance now. So if it is because the doctors are solely employed by Kaiser, I STRONGLY recommend you finding a way to have another insurance company or doctor to help you deliver a child especially during difficult societal times. Either St. Joseph's hospital needs to change something or Kaiser does. But due to my experience I am traumatized and convinced me to never have another child...or at least in their hospital. read more

This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family." I have a member of my family who is suffering from a very serious illness. This year has been hell, that's why I haven't written too many reviews. The Palliative Care Team at St. Joseph Hospital is absolutely wonderful! They understand what we are going through. They answer their phones calls. When you leave a message, they get back to you in a short amount of time. They are a wonderful resource, and help you find answers. They guide in the correct direction. They also have calm voices, which help to calm you (I mean me) down, when you have reached your limit, and all seems lost. I can't begin to say enough about them. Hopefully, you will never need the Palliative Care Team at St. Joseph's Hospital, but if you do, please know that they are there for you. Thank you, Palliative Care Team! read more

I came in with severe lower back pain. I was in tears and couldn't walk, stand, or sit comfortably. I'd been in pain for 7.5 hours at that point, desperate for answers. This had never happened to me before. I told the medical staff that repeatedly, but because I have a record of chronic back pain, they just seemed to ignore that fact completely. It took over an hour to be called back and another hour and a half of being in excruciating pain while Dr. Jacob Wayman was absolutely no help. When I was called back, the nurse didn't offer any assistance. I had to ask my spouse to get a wheelchair for me, even though I was visibly in too much pain to walk efficiently and they knew we'd have to go all the way down the hallway. When Dr. Wayman was in the room, he suggested an x-ray when we'd already established it wouldn't be a bone issue. Then he suggested an MRI after telling me it was probably a sprain or a muscle spasm... then proceeded to tell me neither of those would show up on an MRI. Then I asked if a sprain would hurt worse than endometriosis pain, because I experience that, and he said no. I said well this pain is way worse than that, and he recommended Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and a muscle relaxer. When I expressed that I was in pain and I specifically wanted to know what was causing it and how to relieve the pain, he started talking over me. No bedside manner. Apathetic attitude. Horrible encounter. The nurse wasn't exceptionally kind, but they kind of helped me advocate for myself before the doctor came in, and for that, I appreciate them. Brent, the paramedic, who helped me in and out of the bed and administered the medications to me was very kind, respectful, and helpful. I was and am still stunned. The whole experience felt so dystopian. And after making me wait in pain for hours and only giving me OTC meds, a muscle relaxer, and a lidocaine patch, this place wants to charge me $1,880. I gave birth to my first child at St. Joseph's Hospital in February 2017 and had a harrowing experience during labor and delivery and when being readmitted through the Emergency Department. This review will focus on those two aspects of the hospital. I had my second child at Rose Hospital and had a much better experience. Some elements of my experience are described below. TL; DR: More than two years later, I am still in physical therapy due to a birth injury I received at this hospital. I was also sent home with postpartum preeclampsia and then had to be readmitted through the ED, but only after waiting for 7 hours with severe-range blood pressures. 1. Obstetric Violence -- An episiotomy was performed on me WITHOUT MY CONSENT with no efforts to reduce tearing. I suffered a 4th degree laceration as a result of this procedure and experience ongoing issues from this injury even several years later. My baby was born vigorous with all normal readings. 2. Chaotic Delivery Room -- no one was in charge in the delivery room. Nurses and doctors were all yelling at each other and yelling at me. Critical diagnostic tests (including checking my urine for protein) and vitals (including taking my weight) were not performed or recorded. 3. Poor Communication -- I experienced poor communication with nurses, residents and attendings who often provided conflicting information. No one reviewed my birth plan, which had included a desire not to have an episiotomy. 4. Lack of Adequate Supervision of Residents -- Critical procedures were attempted only by residents. When the resident rounded and I had questions, she provided inaccurate information. 5. Inability to Get Supplemental Food for Baby -- St. Joe's is a "baby friendly" hospital, but this protocol has been implemented in a way that disempowers families. My child was born small for gestational age and very hungry. I had a traumatic delivery and so my milk supply was both reduced and delayed. We continually asked to get supplemental food and were denied. He lost weight rapidly. It was not until he had lost 12% of his body weight that it was treated as an emergency and the nurses threatened to take him to the NICU. 6. Very Poor Service and Hygiene in the Emergency Department -- I returned to the hospital with severe postpartum preeclampsia 4 days postpartum. I waited 7 hours to be treated and even then, the attending in the emergency room did not call OB until I asked him to do so. There were also poor hygiene practices in the emergency room. A man was vomiting profusely, and the staff took his vitals -- including blood pressure and pulse ox (on his finger) and then took mine, without cleaning the equipment. 7. Poor Documentation -- The fact that I had a hypertensive event during delivery was not clearly marked on my records. Therefore, when I returned to the ED with severe range blood pressures 4 days postpartum, they did not immediately see that I had been hypertensive during delivery. 8. Inability to Get Food for Moms 24 Hours -- Food is not available for patients at all hours. When I was readmitted in the middle of the night after waiting in the ED for 7 hours, I was hungry, but there was no ability to get food to the room. 9. Not Offered Supplies or Care to Room with Infant when Readmitted 4 days Postpartum -- When I was readmitted for severe pre-eclampsia 4 days postpartum, I was not offered a bassinet or diapers or wipes for my 4-day old infant. After several requests and waiting for hours, we were provided with a bassinet so we could sleep. However, I was unable to get a boppy to support the baby while breastfeeding until a new nurse started during the day shift. What doctor comes in on Sunday night to diagnose and get lab tests all in about 3, 4 hours? Next day a fat lady came in and gave a big speel on how great hospice is how comforting hospice is. Then a man came in after she left laying on the same speel how he is the head of pallitive team at Collier hospice and they gave a whole team who is there to comfort the patients. My brother was coherent and said he would go. Collier didn't waste anytime they knocked him into a coma pumped him full of morphine and he was dead in three days. No pallative care. I still don't know who diagnosed him at the last minute on a Sunday night with stage 5 esophigal cancer because none of his doctors said he had cancer. It was not on any reports. read more

The hospital was clean and they were able to deliver our premature baby and help keep her alive, so they did their job, basically, and I can't give a 1-star review. However, we had a bad experience with my wife not being allowed any rest - people kept coming in during the 72-hour labor and machines kept beeping - there was no chance for her to actually sleep at all. And then they called child protective services on us because we refused to do a car seat test. We didn't have a car at the time and lived right across the street from the hospital so we were just taking our baby directly across the street in her stroller to our apartment. There was no abuse or neglect since we did not have a car and didn't intend to drive with our baby. Since then we have purchased a vehicle and made sure to have a good quality car seat installed safely in our car. Years later, we are still paying bills to the hospital for various services, which is totally understandable. The problem is, we pay them on time and they still take us to collections. For example, one bill was for $618 and was paid on time, and they took us to collections. After waiting on hold and going back and forth, we were told the bill was actually for $620 and we were taken to collections because we underpaid. But I just looked at it, and it says $618.00. Now they want a $60 fee to cancel collection on the account. That seems a bit shiesty to me. I understand that clerical mistakes happen, but if it's their mistake, they should be willing to correct it for free. While I didn't feel there was any real medical incompetence or neglect, I wouldn't go to this hospital again if I had a choice. read more
