I was quite impressed by this church. First off, they have multiple "types" of masses. There is one at 10am that is more plain/modern language and gets children more involved in the mass (they get to sit up front during the blessing of the eucharist). They have a children's mass/daycare that is open, so no screaming babies in the church. And, they keep it short, even with a guest speaker (guest speaker while we were there was the new Archbishop of a small country on the continent of Africa), you are in and out in a hour. The church itself is ornate and beautiful without being gaudy. The stained glass windows are gorgeous, and they open (yay) so it's not hot nor stuffy in the church. The service is efficient! Rather than make every single person in the entire church walk down the asile to a single service point for the eucharist, there are multiple sets of people doing the bread & wine, a set for every 4-5 rows. Very nice! The offertory is done this way as well. The service itself is a bit more singing than I prefer (they sing several of the parts of the mass that some other Episcopal churches just speak). But, it's definitely not over the top. I think the 11am, the more formal mass, would have even more singing/chanting, etc. So, while I do not attend church on any kind of regular basis, I would definitely go back to this one.

Beautiful and European looking church! We're from out of town and was in town for Christmas and looked around for a church to celebrate Christmas Eve on. I looked through yelp and thought this church looked beautiful, so we decided to attend the 11 o'clock mass. The church is huge! And the poinsettias, lights, and Christmas decor didn't overwhelm the church but still brought in the Christmas feel. And it wasn't hot at all! I mean with all the candles and the amount of bodies in there, the cold would've dissipated quick but everything was peachy. We arrived around 9:30 because we knew the church was going to be packed and we sat towards the center. Slowly the church was filled and there were stow-away seats provided for those standing. Plus we scooted over, as requested, by the entertaining Father Eaton (?). After the beautiful service and the great choir, eggnog and cookies were provided and we got to see the back hall and it still had that olden time- European look. All in all, beautiful church, great service, and nice people. Satisfied out of towner-- hehe.

A beautiful building and beautiful music. Not sure I would feel comfortable worshipping there every week.

My sweet neighbor took me here for their Christmas carols--which is just singing and no serious churchy stuff.

I can't say that I've ever been to a church that is more genuine and welcoming than Scum. The evening service starts off with a time of worship, followed by a community meal, and then onto the teaching segment. The worship band is never "flashy", which adds to the charm and humble nature of this church. Pastor Mike's teaching is from the heart and is easy to understand. Scum's church building is at 9th and Kalamath. It is from the late 1800's and was shut down by Denver's code enforcement. Scum isn't having financial problems as the other reviewer mentioned; but when the city closes your doors after being in a building for a couple of years, then there is a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to reopen those doors - yes, there will be some need for donations. Currently services are being held at other locations in Denver. In fact the money that churchgoers give regularly is invested back into the community in the form of homeless outreach, and other neighborhood projects. The staff raises their own support. Like I said at the outset, I love Scum. Every week I drive an hour to attend!

For an inclusive church DCC behaves as an exclusive club with little tolerance for different views,…read moreeven those views still very much in the mainstream. As an organization DCC is top heavy. Too many "cooks in the kitchen" for the size of the congregation that often don't know or seem to care what the others are doing. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I have attended many inspirational Bible teaching churches. The sermons at DCC are not inspirational and do not include in depth Biblical teaching. Even the congregation seems uninspired and appears to leave the Sunday morning service with little or no enthusiasm to reach the people of Denver outside of their building with the message of salvation. Churches like DCC have become obsolete and out of touch with the plight of so many people in need just blocks from their church building. I choose to attend a church more in touch with the basic needs of the people of Denver as an instrument of God here on earth. Tom Dammer

It seems weird to write a review about a…read morechurch, but what a great place to find some insight if you are looking for a new place to spend your Sundays. Denver Community Church has been my place of peace each week for almost two years now. I grew up in church and attended youth group but kind of fell away from the weekly grind in college. At a time in my life when I was searching for a little structure, as well as a place that would except my open-mindedness. I came across this place. I actually searched the internet... So I can only hope my review will pop up for another searcher like myself. Overall, DCC has a great ambiance. I felt welcome the first day I walked in. People are friendly and will be inviting if you want to be invited, and will leave you to yourself if you do so wish. It is kind of a church where you get what you put in. They have plenty of opportunity to volunteer, participate in services and helping out in misc positions if that is what you are looking for. They cater to both an older crowd, families and young folk. I feel there is a majority of younger families and young professionals in their 20's to 30's. They have a great worship team that is always changing. In fact there are a couple so you will never get tired of the music. And of course Michael the pastor has an unforgettable message each week. He does not do the typical feel good, daily devotional type read.... He is a scholar and makes ou think. Each week is a lesson. He does not lay things out in a clear message; you have to go home and think about things and actually apply it to your life to really let things sink in. I feel like it is very educational. Plus he is young, relatable, and hilarious. I hope that anyone looking for a church tries this place out! It is a place i feel comfortable and am excited to share with others. Services are at 8:30, 10, and 11:30 so you have plenty of options! :) ENJOY!

He said jesus told him we were not meant to be together. What a convenient message and great timing since he had promised to take care of me through a scheduled operation the very next day! A few weeks later, another member called to ask me how I was doing to check up on me "post baptism" and I said well not great; I asked to be placed in a small group and they proceeded to shun me, no communication or answers to my emails and texts. I did receive one more call from a man telling me when I could attend church, since the person who I was dating attended at xyz time and abc time, then I should go exactly at "def" time. I said Wow so you are calling me post-baptism to dictate to me when I should attend? Do you have any other questions or comments for me, Mister post baptism helper person? No, he did not. I'm one of the first people baptised in their new location at Washington Park, in the flowered outfit. Pretty swanky location for a non profit. If you visit the website, the first place to click is "donate". Also, they mention simple church which good luck if you get a response from anyone for that; it did not ever work for me. As others have mentioned, this is not a thinking person's place to congregate. I have two undergraduate degrees, a master's degree, and a professional license. The singing and shiny happy people are welcoming at the onset, but if you dare speak up, question their practices, or have differing opinions, then you just might be an outcast and pushed away, as I have been.
