I had a highly dissatisfactory experience with MACC Charities. The worker I spoke with (Shan non)…read morelacked empathy and there was a sense of her gaining satisfaction in her efforts to humiliate. She was unsupportive and verbally tried to discourage me from my life's aspirations. She went so far as to pretended to be an expert in a field she is not, all in efforts to derail. I asked her not to speak to me in a condescending manner, and she continued to abuse her false sense of power. I reached out to this organization during a time of need and was told by the worker that they don't "do hand outs". That if I was a worker for a company instead of being self-employed or unemployed (with no UE benefits), they'd have helped. In other words, they try to bait people into mediocrity and don't help those who need help. It's also been brought to my attention that their employees are not reflective of the population they supposedly serve (ie: lack of staff diversity). Perhaps they need to be audited to ensure their funds are being appropriately allocated, and ensure fair business practices. I discourage businesses from investing in or with the MACC organization. I also advise that their employees be mandated to take (and pass) unpaid sensitivity training and do mandated volunteer work in urban communities so they can gain perspective. I advise you donate, invest or partner in an organization that's more customer centric in their approach to humanity.

I like the people (members and employees) who are involved at MARC Inc. Their staff are great…read morepeople to work with. With that said, Job coaches are great people. For people seeking employment and independence, there is a 9-month internship program called Project Search which has two sites including Goodwin College and Hartford Hospital which is very helpful for people like me. There's some cool annual events hosted by MARC Inc. including Summer Concert series, Bowl-A-Thon, some themed dances and Golf tournaments.

Most of all house staff is African American (No Problem!) But if you're the new white kid on the block, don't think about getting comfortable, Human Resourses will not even sit and hear you. I found the staff to be very prejudice in some houses! Don't Do It, Just keep on looking somewhere else for a job. Very cold Human Resource dept. and power trippin House Managers!!!!! And prospective clients? Your children or family member will not be happy, they are treated with total disregard, although you are led to believe otherwise! I was there and I saw it first hand!!!! When trying to express what I had witnessed, I was shown the door. Where are the protective services now? I'd love to tell them what I witnessed!

As I have heard St James is one of the best schools in the Manchester area (blue ribbon). The…read moreteachers are excellent and instill discipline, morals values, traditions and social norms as they guide students for a better academic future. It's good that they have uniforms. Though this could be seen as an expense to the parents, this is one way to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. I guess this logic would work in a public school and not a private one, as only rich parents would be able to afford a private school. The school is in a residential community that causes inconvenience to the neighbors but the school is able to build a good rapport with the neighbors by hiring staff to guide traffic during busy hours. There is a lot of focus on religion in the school. If the school plans to build on diversity, this would be a good time to educate kids on different religions with primary focus on Christianity (catholic).
