Our daughter has been attending St. Barnabas Catholic School since TK, and the difference has been incredible. After a difficult experience in public school, we were heartbroken seeing her not get the attention and support she needed. I have had all three of my daughters go to SBS. Two of them are currently there. I am also a current public school teacher in a different city, and i feel that the knowledge, foundation and guidance that this school gives to the children is truly remarkable. St. Barnabas School (SBS) is a wonderful school. My son has attended K-5th so far. The faculty cares about each student and makes school fun! Students can also participate in extracurricular activities. I chose SBS after attending an Open House. This is our second home. The families are always involved and collaborative. Close knit. Been a part of this great community for 6 years now. Teachers focus on growth and are passionate with years of teaching under their belt. Kids are kept up to date with technology. There are lots of extra curricular and after-school activities. This school has that small town feel, parents are friendly, teachers always remember the students names and address them as they enter the school. If you are looking for a "family friendly" school. We drive across town 25 minutes to this school, because the community is strong and I want my granddaughter to grow up with kids who are friendly, loving and want to learn. Our daughter goes to preschool here with Ms.Suzy and Ms.O and they are AMAZINGGGGGGG! They have taken every precaution possible to keep the students safe! Our daughter is really thriving here. She loves coming to play with all her friends. She has learned so much in so little time. I love when they send us little updates/pics/videos of what she and her friends are doing. This is a great school, my kids have been here for a few years and we're really impressed with the quality of the teachers and the wonderful community around the school. They are doing a lot of work upgrading the facilities (new computers, new air conditioning) so the school just keeps getting better and better. This year they have started using Google Classroom, it's great that my kids can do their homework on-line from home. A lot of the textbooks are available on-line too so no more issues with forgotten books. For such a small school they've managed to get a lot of great programs (dedicated Science, Spanish & Advanced Math teachers). I really like that this school goes from Pre-K through 8th grade, it will let our kids stay in a stable, small, environment through middle school. read more

Excellent school! we've never had a bad experience.. we are very happy and satisfied in this school! My daughter is in kindergarten! Mrs Kellam is a great principal! Teachers are very dedicated, caring, patient, and knowledgeable. Mrs Padrick, Ms Hayes, Mrs Patti, Mrs Pricilla are all wonderful teachers!!! Mrs Herbold & day care teachers are so nice & friendly. This school isn't what it used to be. St. Barnabas School is very disappointing. My son was stabbed with a pen by his classmate during recess. My son complained that his abdomen was in pain from recess until he came home and when we checked out why I was shaking and crying in anger. My husband was so angry he couldn't even speak. My son had a wound that bled and the skin around it was swollen. We immediately filed a police report to document what happened.I was told that the boy who stabbed my son was tripped by a classmate from behind and his solution to what happened was to stab the very first kid in front of him, and that was my son. They laughed at him and thought this was funny.The same child also has a habit of punching my son until he twitches in pain every week. One Friday when I picked up my son, he was grasping his arm and twitching slightly. He told me that the same kid punched him. When I asked why, my son said "the bully's" bag is in the middle of the hallway my son put it on the side so people could pass by. And the child punched him again for that. My heart broke. My child displayed some odd behavior after that. He began acting more fearful than usual .And to add salt to injury, this same child only got a half a day suspension for the stabbing incident. I was not informed of any decisions they made regarding the situation. We were just set aside. I have heard nothing more. We have enrolled my son to self defense classes and his behavior has greatly improved.We strongly felt that our child and our family does not matter to this school. I have asked around and compared other schools. In public schools any incident like this would be a cause for the bully to be taken out of that school and transferred. All other Catholic schools I have asked about their policies regarding this situation and I was told that it was a ground for expulsion. Most especially if there was skin breaking. In our case, there was skin breaking, swelling, abdominal pain and a police report to document the incident. And their solution was to keep the children away from each other.I was wondering how much separating could they really do when they are in the same class.And we really don't want to risk knowing what will or will not change with that child's behavior.We do not know what happens at his home and what truly goes on in his head. With so many crimes happening nowadays committed by young children, we decide not to take the risk.What was so disturbing is that the bully actually thought that all this physical abuse he does to his classmates are funny! He thought that punching another kid is normal or grabbing a handful of dirt and splashing it to another child's face is normal and hilarious. Who knows what would he do next for laughs? We left this school because of this issue. And we truly regret not pulling him out sooner.St. Barnabas isn't the school it used to be.If you have an academically competitive child, local public schools have very competitive programs that could equip them with the knowledge they need to get into their desired high school. If you think it would be safer for your child in St. Barnabas you are terribly mistaken. Parents have to observe closely until they realize what I am talking about. Also, the security of the students relies entirely on how many parents have the time to volunteer and watch these kids. Being bought up a Catholic I would like my children to spend their younger years gong through the traditions of our faith.I want to set their foundations in our Catholic faith in a community where they would feel that they matter and they would feel safe. That school and community is NOT St. Barnabas. read more

We have 2 children ages 8 &12. Both suffered serious injuries on the playground while under " supervision". My youngest was hospitalized and our oldest was take to urgent care. One schoolyard teacher accused our son of being careless and claimed he fell by himself. Several students came forward and told us he had been tripped on accident. When we confronted that teacher, she changed her story and admitted that she she didn't "actually see what happened". Why would she then lie about it?The school was more concerned with their reputation & liability issues rather than the well being & proper care of our children . Additionally, there were inappropriate conversations between a gym teacher and students. This also resulted in another confrontation and a whole lot f excuses. The icing on the proverbial cake ; an incredibly rude Monsignor, lack of one on one attention & educational growth in the classroom. All religion aside, I was also disappointed in their lack of passion, sincerity and empathy. Practice what you preach St.Barnabas. After 2 rough years at STB, we're done. Our children are much more well adjusted at Hughes. read more

Fantastic school! Teachers are truly genuine and care very deeply about your child, both academically and socially. Highly supportive staff and administration. Your needs and concerns will be addressed immediately. They have a computer lab that the students use more than 2x a week, a library, an art program, p.e weekly and music in the classroom. I agree...Monsignor IS rude and not the best example of Christianity. It is amazing to me that he oversees the school, but has no visible compassion for either the parents or children. The teachers, on the other hand, are FABULOUS. I felt good everyday dropping my child off to be supervised by such caring individuals. What Monsignor lacks in people skills the teachers make up for in droves...don't they teach priests conflict resolution in the seminary? If they do, Monsignor needs to retake that class! read more
