What an AMAZING school! I recently had the opportunity to visit Saint Andrew Catholic School and I was TRULY impressed. This 100+ year old school was very well-maintained, well-organized, secure, and though this is an older school, everything appeared to be in perfect working order. The staff is absolutely AMAZING. Starting with Principal Gonzalez. She was very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. She answered each of my many questions and concerns and is definitely the right person to lead this school. I met other staff members as well and each one was very friendly, helpful and made my visit a pleasant experience. My son and I love St. Andrew's! He has been attending since Kindergarten and is now in 2nd grade. Our experience with the faculty and other staff has been very positive. My son is receiving an exceptional religious education and everyday becomes a more kind, compassionate and empathetic person. We have both of our kids at St. Andrew, one in 6th grade and the other in their ECE program (PK). My 6th grader struggled with distant learning during the pandemic and has come a long way since attending St. Andrew. Her home room teacher, Mr. Rodriguez (coach) and Mrs. Ortiz have really made an impact with her academically and socially. Ms. Sandy and Ms. Evelyn are my sons Pre K teachers and they are GREAT at what they do! He started at 3 years old and is now finishing the school year at 4 and reading. Every teacher is passionate about seeing their students succeed and they know the importance of getting the parents involved should an issue arise, and do it in a very respectful, approachable manner. Mr. Kim (Principal) is always present and knows all the kids. He is very engaged and supportive. The teachers are amazing, the curriculum is second to none and each child is treated with care. Trust the reviews they are all fake in the admin office. The school curriculum is nice though hence the reason for 1 star. They will tell you your child is too slow for a grade as a dishonest way to hide other reasons such as racism while scamming money. How can a child who is already reading, doing addition & subtraction not know the letters of the alphabet. Have a look in the classrooms and see the entire school is literally one race only. My wife and I are grateful for our children's formation at St. Andrew. Our son started kinder in 2011 and graduated in 8th and is now in a great high school with a scholarship. Our daughter started in TK and is in 7th, doing well academically. The school's culture is its greatest gift. It's a caring and nurturing environment for children. They become well-formed, with intellectual curiosity, love for life, and caring of others. The teachers, Mr. Kim, the school Principal, and Fr. Gonzalez, instill the importance of their faith. And it is only going to get better with the facilities master plan underway and extracurriculars picking up steam. My daughter loved volleyball, soccer, and the choir with Mr. Flahive, the choir director, one of the best in LA. My family and I have lived in Pasadena for the past few years. For the first few years we had our daughter enrolled in a public school. As time went on, we had a few occurrences at school and lack of accountability that caused us to doubt the curriculum. Our daughter would come home and let us know alot of the stuff that other kids and kids in her social group were talking about that needless to say we didnt approve of. As soon as we could, we transitioned our daughter into St.Andrews school. Right off the bat, we noticed a huge difference in accountability from the school staff, curriculum and quality of social aspects within the schools students. Our daughters friendships, grades and overall happiness seemed to progress into something way more positive. As far as the curriculum, we saw that our daughter be more engaged and challenged with what she was being taught. We we're being made aware weekly of her grades and and assignment statuses which in turn allowed us to hold our daughter accountable for her assignments. All in all we strongly recommend St.Andrews for all families especially those who are thinking of making a transition from public schools. Our family is very happy with St.Andrews. read more

As an alum of Saint Andrew, I can comfortably say that it provides a world class education to its diverse student population. Monthly trips to the Armory Arts Center for arts and crafts, the Pasadena Public Library for story time, and performances from the Pasadena Chamber Orchestra--at the time, I didn't realize how much exposure to culture and arts this wonderful school was providing to me. After graduating, however, I realized how lucky I was to have attended this school. My mother worked hard to send my sister and me here and we never once took that for granted. I matriculated to Loyola High school and pursued higher education. Based on my experience, I highly recommend looking into St. Andrew Grammar school. read more

I came to St. Andrew looking for a place to call home since our last school had closed due to low enrollment. My two daughters (one was entering 7th grade and the other was entering 5th) had been at their other school since Kindergarten. When meeting Mr. Kim, he immediately made us feel welcomed and enthusiastic about the future ahead. He made my daughters feel excited to start at a new school and gave them hopes as to what they can accomplish and achieve at SAS. We started August 2020, during distance learning. I was impressed on how the faculty made great efforts to make the school day a "normal" and engaging as possible. My daughters had class every day including PE, Art, and Spanish. What was most impressive was how the teachers made an effort to get to know my daughters, make them feel included, and genuinely cared about how they were doing in their new school environment. My oldest daughter had difficulty making friends and fitting in, which was worrisome as a parent. During parent conference I expressed those concerns with her teachers. My daughter, also for the first time struggled in her academics due to the shift in curriculum from her old school to St. Andrew. All of her teachers, especially Mrs. Ortiz, took my daughter under her wing and helped facilitate friendships between my daughter and some girls in her class. They also took the time to support my daughter, as she got adjusted academically to her new school. By the time my oldest went to "in-person" learning, she was feeling much more confident and included because of the care and watch of her teachers. At the end of the year, my daughter earned the "Monsignor Tobias English Scholarship", which was voted unanimously by her teachers. This scholarship helped pay tuition for her 8th grade year, but most importantly, it gave her the boost she needed after a challenging year. Fast forward to today, she was accepted into the Catholic high school of her choice with Honors acceptance. The high school letter stated that she was one of the top scorers of the High School Placement Test at the school and granted her a $2,000 scholarship for it. I'm very proud of my daughter for all the challenges she has overcome, but she didn't do it alone. She had wonderful teachers supporting, caring, and rooting for her. I absolutely love St. Andrew School! The principle, Dr. Foersch is excellent. He knows each student and parent by name. He does everything he says he will do. He's very open to suggestions and has made many improvements to the school in the few years he has been there. My son is in Kindergarten. I love Ms. Maria (the teacher) and his 3 aides. The student teacher ratio in TK & K is 10:1. I email the teacher often and she always replies the same day. The curriculum is fun and challenging. The other parents are also very friendly. The school also has many family events. Our favorite are the movie nights. I absolutely love this school and highly recommend it to anyone looking to give their children a quality catholic education. read more

Lets face it you have so many choices in Pasadena when it comes to private schools, both religious and non; we toured all of them, some of them twice! Our son started in TK and is now in 1st grade and we are glad we made the decision to send him to SAS. The teachers and the Pricipal Dr. Foersch are really dialed in to the students and their families. We love that the older kids make an effort to say hello to the young ones, everyone knows each other and looks out for each other. Like in any school there is always room for improvement but we like where St. A is going. They make a big effort for families to get together and meet each other, this is good for everyone. We also like that if we have a concern you can openly address it with either the teachers or Principal. read more

Hi, I am a graduate with in the las two years so this info is fairly current. The school is broke. The church refuses to help much. First problem this school is tiny. Ridiculously small. Which I realize is why most parents send their kids here. The problem with small schools? Your kids don't really develop social skills. They can talk to their classmates, but are not used to really meeting new people. Also, because it is so small there are no personalized classes. There is only an honors option in math (years 6-8). Choices are very limited. With a school that small there really can't be culture. Seriously the kids you meet there are for the most part you type A just random, normal in every way kid. There really is no diversity. The kids are also very obsessed with cliches (true for most classes). People become friends more out of necessity to avoid certain other people than because of common interests or because they genuinely like the person. Also there is a a mild drug subculuture going on with the older kids. I can think of at least around 9 people out of 32 who weren't using. There are probably 6 kids out of 32 who view drugs as wrong. The kids play in a cement parking lot. I swear. There are two parking lots that the kids play in. One belonging to the Church, where tools: hammers, wrenches, etc. are left around. It is also insanely cracked and led my mom to sprain her ankle when walking to our car one evening. I have only had some of the teachers so I can only review those. The kindergarten teacher is decent most students claim to hate her, but I remember no problem with her. The third grade teacher yells at children regularly. I never had her, but she weighed herself in front of her class and is very close-minded. THe fourth grade teacher is a good teacher and woman but is uncomfortable around adults. She behaves very strangely around them. The fifth grade teacher is getting a bit old and senile, but is a great teacher. The sixth grade teacher has been pregnant off and on for the past two years and is often very hormonal. She is very close-minded and religious. This is great if you are strict Catholic, but if not will DESTROY your nerves and patience, a very stereotypical straight by the bible woman. THe seventh grade teacher is great in every way except that most of my peers (now in high school) are completely behind in english (what she teaches). Very supportive and kind. The eighth grade teacher is often reported as creepy. However he is a good teacher although not entirely fair in punishment. One more time, the school is broke. The music program is underfunded (and the teacher is terrible, honestly should not be near children let alone attempting to teach). The p.e. teacher is actually really good. He prepares you for high school yet does not make it unbearable although I did hate p.e. my nine years there. If you are not Catholic it's not the most excepting I remember my peers being forced to pray and not allowed to ask questions about gay marriage. I also remember a fellow student asking 'Wait you actually know a gay?! What are they like?' However I made some very good friends and memories there. Honestly I would really like to never talk to most of those kids ever again (let alone visit the school). However I made some my best friends who continue to talk every day even though most live at least an hour away. This school is not full of oppurtunities, but the work load is small enough that you can spend four hours a day living a normal life. It is okay, but don't believe that it is better just because it is small. read more
