I frankly haven't changed much over the years. I stayed in South Kensington. I loved it. Across from Gloucester Road tube station was this Waitrose. It had everything that I needed. I tend to get lemons and make lemon tea in the morning. Waitrose had lemons, so I got three that lasted my entire stay. The baked goods section is excellent. I got croissants here. They were flaky, buttery, and yummy. I got some peanut brittle, too. It was so good. Butter tends to make anything taste better. I remember seeing self-checkouts here. I ended up wanting a human. He was great. I paid with a credit card. It worked perfectly. I'm so glad that this Waitrose still exists. It was a good grocery store that had everything I needed while I was here for a week. (38)

This Waitrose store is pretty poor, even though it has faced the brand all John Lewis Partnership owned stores have adding "& Partners" They didn't stock the Pots and Co, which is a dessert range I like which was quite surprising as I've seen at least a small selection of these in every Waitrose store, even in stores formerly known as "Little Waitrose" They did have some nice selection of dairy products and meats - but pretty much, in general, they seemed to stock a reduced selection to what you'd find at any other Waitrose store, but it is slightly smaller. Interestingly, this store appears to be smaller than your regular Waitrose store but larger (yet sadly less modern) than typical Little Waitrose stores. It isn't completely rubbish and is a useful brand to have within the centre of Islington (Liverpool Road shops) and I do prefer it to Marks and Spencer nearby but that's pretty much where the positives end. 2*

Meanwhile, on the other spectrum, her coworkers went out of their way trying to help me find shelf stable milk since my hotel didn't have a fridge. So pros: convenient, helps save some money, some of the employees go out of their way to be helpful. Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

Item selection for things (particularly vegetables and fruits) seems a little sparse. But admittedly I'm a tourist so perhaps that's expected for the area, climate, and time of year. Checkout is slightly disorganized (again, probably a "tourist ignorance" thing). Recyclable bags are available for pickup on a rail while walking through self-checkout. There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. Nothing wrong with that but it was just a little surprising.

I prefer this store to many other branches of Waitrose, the store has a good feel to it, and it is in a useful location within a large shopping centre, meaning you can pick up essentials or even do a weekly shop while picking up the rest of your shopping across the mall. They have handheld scanners at the front of the store, meaning you can scan as you walk around the score, or use the QR code for mobile scanning. This is a handy feature more and more stores are offering now, but Waitrose seem to do it well, rather than playing hide and seek with the QR codes (I'm talking about you Sainsbury's) or forgetting about a mobile app altogether (I'm talking about you Tesco) Obviously, the prices are slightly higher than other supermarkets as Waitrose is a more premium brand, but they do have some products where the pricing is reasonable/competitive, the free-from range could be much better, which is the main reason I prefer Marks and Spencer at the other end of the mall.
