I have memories of this store dating back about four years ago, this store hasn't changed much since then but still remains a decent branch of Tesco and probably their better and more central store in Durham, as they also have an Express store which is quite close to the train station. This store is quite a large one, it seems to be all over one floor, unlike my local Tesco Metro in Manchester city centre which is over two floors. The store stocks a satisfactory selection of drinks and an impressive selection of essentials, even including a selection of games and showcase mobile phones, yet "cheap and budget" mobiles rather than the likes of the Iphone. The staff here also seemed nice enough. This store is one of the larger stores in Durham which I went in on my recent visit to the city, and with a decent selection of groceries and even games, yet not a big enough selection to do a weekly shop. this store is still above average and deserves a solid three-star rating.

It's great to have this low-cost alternative, especially as this store also has DVDs, toiletries, batteries, and kitchen utensils! In fact, if I had to go to only one shop in Durham, this would be it. Wide range of stock, great prices, long opening hours (7am-10pm most days).

The shop itself is quite large and they pack a lot of stuff into it. The dispays are nice and everything looks well ordered and clean. The staff are always nice, but there just isn't enough of them! The queues can be long and the bags cost about 3p each, so I always take my own

There is always a good variety of all products - a good choice of brands with a range of prices to suit every budget. They also have a very good clothing section that often has a sale on. The atmosphere in Tesco is always bustling, even at 3 in the morning near Christmas and New Year. Although most of the staff are very friendly and will drop everything to help you look for a product but some of the staff that work on the electrical counter are a little to be desired. They are very unwilling to negotiate a refund/exchange even when you bring the product back within a week brand new!

A very unpleasant shopping experience, the Arnison Centre store is undergoing renovation at the…read moremoment, so some inconvenience is expected. The car park is overrun with workers vans and cordoned off areas, so makes parking difficult and at times dangerous. The fruit and vegetables are squashed near the clothes in a small area, with 1 working scale. There are numerous buckets collecting rainwater and the stock has been moved around and customers are walking round in circles. I know these are hopefully not long term issues, but a lot of shelving has been moved closer together, so that you can't get down the aisles easily. I was told by a member of staff that some of the narrow aisles are permanent. I have shopped here for years and have been a loyal customer, but I chose Sainsburys mainly because it was a pleasant shopping experience and space was a large part of that experience. If the store doesn't improve in the new year I'll definitely be trying different supermarkets, not Sainsburys.

I can understand their annoyance at expensive repairs, caused by 'stupid' users, but surely genuine customers could just enter a code on the shop receipt or the petrol receipt and continue to use this convenient service.
