The beer selection is a bit sparce but I was offered a taste of the guest befor committing which I turned down and went straight for the pint. Well impressed for a room temperature beer. I quess if it had been a hot day I would have to have gone for one of the cold lagers. Whilst looking at the menu board and not finding anything to suite us (and there was a massive choice), the chef happened to walk past and offered assistance. We told him what we would have liked for lunch and he said he would oblige, it would just take a few extra minutes. I have very rarly had such good service. On top of that the food was well presented and tasted second to none. I wont be driving past without stopping again, unless it closing time.

Mostly unusual ones. Served at room temperature. Bar and lounge both very pleasant and bright with wooden floors. Restaurant tables spread out almost to the point of sparse but good thing if you don't like being too snug! Food not particular cheap given the location - Sunday lunch £9.50, desserts £4.50. However, it is very nicely presented and tastes great too. Desserts where very good also. Chef said hello as he passed through and asked if the food was OK. Also they are child friendly. I would say the only niggles we had is they wouldn't serve a glass of milk and we had problems paying by card because of a faulty terminal. And rather than trying to sort it out or using a back up system we had to pay cash. No idea what would have happened if we hadn't the cash!! Highly recommended though.

Good service and reasonable food and beer choice. Particularly liked option of "award winning" Abbott Prosecco made locally. Had ribs good, smoked salmon also good. Not quite the best pub in the UK but worth going to even if it is a bit out of the way

But then something happened which is an absolute no-go. I had a fishcake as main and when I have taken the first bite it was so unbelievable hot that I have burnt my tongue, it was so terrible. Even now, almost 24 hours later, it still hurts. I can't drink a coffee without pain. I guess that a very inexperienced person in the kitchen heated the cake too long in a microwave. It's the only explanation for this extrem temperature, I never experienced this before (and I hope will never again).  This is the reason why there should be a ban for microwaves in kitchens. An US American would have sued them for damages. Nevertheless I rate three stars because it is a lovely inn and I hope they read it and will change something that this will never happen again.
