Had a wonderful experience sailing! Captain Luis and Mabel were wonderful hosts. It is not a huge sail boat but it was perfect for my friends and I. We brought along some food and wine to have for the afternoon. We met at the Dinner Key Marina and promptly got escorted to the boat. It is very laid back and rustic. We all snugly fit in the covered area along with the captain and his wife. There was more room up front to hang out but we all chose to stay together to talk, etc. We started using the motor and once we were a little further out we switched to full sail. It was a perfect day for sailing and it was "smooth sailing" indeed! I was a little apprehensive about being tipped too much while sailing but the truth is that it was awesome and I felt completely safe! There was some spraying on the way back but not to worry, they had raincoats for us all to keep dry. By the time our three hour sail ended I was extremely relaxed and in a sail coma. That was absolutely wonderful. I cannot wait to do this again. read more

Biscayne Bay Sailing Academy is the best. My wife and I went I wanted to get lessons from someone who has been there and done that and we found exactly what we were looking for with Tony. He has decades of experience. The best part of ASA101 is the "+". Tony exceeds the lessons required in the certification to make you confident to take out a sailboat on your own. He teaches not just to the "lead" person in your group but makes sure everyone learns. If you are looking for a fun experience and to learn to sail, I cannot recommend Biscayne Bay enough! read more

1 star for the entire experience; 1 star for the captain and 4 stars for the 2 ladies helping the captain. The sail boat was advertised as being able to fit 6 people and we had 5 girls, so we thought we would have enough space. Little did we know that 6 people was the TOTAL occupancy for the boat which included the useless captain and his two sweet helpers. This should have been made clear prior to us booking so that we didn't have to cramp in like a pack of sardines for 3 hours. Negatives: 1. Boat occupancy was misleading and falsely advertised. 2. The captain released the sail without giving us a heads up and the chord almost choked/decapitated a few of us since it was swinging roughly and dangerously across our faces. This happened twice after we courteously asked that he let us know the next time he's releasing the sail or switching the sail direction. He never did! 3. Captain was extremely nasty to his helpers. Who screams at your workers while guests are on board? Inconsiderate jerk! We wanted to push him overboard...and we really should have! 4. Boat was not ready at specified time. We sat around and waiting for nearly 40 minutes before we started moving. 5. Having the nerves to ask us for a review...well, here you go! Positive: 1. Mabel and Michele were wonderful. They worked the entire trip while the captain is in the cabin chilling half of the time. We booked a 4-hour tour but ended up cutting it short because we couldn't take the torturous ride any longer. Captain didn't want to burn gas and having to go to multiple locations so he just sailed slowly and let time passed. It was such a painful experience that I will never do this again. Next time we're getting a speedboat. No more of this sailing bs! For those that doubt the authenticity of critical reviews, you need to look no further than this response from the owner after he had a chance to read my review. It is, sadly, an example of the experience described in my original review, e.g. Rude, inconsiderate, unapologetic, and without any sense of the true definition of customer service. A simple, "I'm sorry, I'll use your feedback to improve our level of service, and if you're ever back and Miami, we'd love to have the opportunity to improve your experience again" would have been the appropriate reply, instead we get this - sarcasm, arrogance and a lack of respect for other people's money and time. read more

My sister booked a sailing trip for my bachelorette, and while our entire party went in not knowing what to expect, we all agreed this was the BEST part of our trip. Sailing in Biscayne Bay was highly recommended by another bachelorette party, and we were told this was the one thing we needed to do in Miami. We booked a 4-hour trip on a Saturday afternoon. Things I really enjoyed about our trip: 1. Luis and Mabel opened up their home and really treated us like family. They made sure we were safe and comfortable, Mabel took a TON of pics of us, they gave us food (chips/salsa and apples and a fruit/cheese board). There's a cooler on board w ice, and we were able to bring our own drinks (sodas, wine, and rose). 2. Mabel gave us a brief history of Miami (pretty awesome - Mabel pointed out the house where Scarface was filmed, showed us Cher's former house, and gave us history on Stiltsville, among many other things). 3. They have a Bluetooth speaker and allowed us to play our own music 4. Just when I felt the trip was already at an all-time high, Luis gave us the option of jumping in the water! He docked in No Name Harbor and provided us with pool noodles to lounge on in the water. I felt like we had plenty of time to swim while also squeezing in views of downtown and other neighborhoods. This was the absolute highlight of my trip. I didn't realize how relaxing being out in the ocean on a sailboat could be, and I'm so glad my sister booked this. Thank you, Luis and Mabel, for the best experience!! Also - if you are apprehensive bc you get seasick easily (like me, except I was outnumbered so we went), don't worry! I didn't pack Dramamine and was completely fine!! Mabel shared tips on how to not get seasick, and it actually worns. My partner and I had our 9th anniversary on Tuesday and wanted to do something special, so we decided to go on a private sailing charter off of Miami and I'm sooooo glad we did. Captain Luis and his wife Mabel made are experience incredibly special and made us feel like old friends. We charted a private 3 hour sunset cruise around Biscayne Bay that allowed us to see the Miami skyline at dusk. What's also great is, we were able to pre-order the shrimp ceviche, which was really fantastic and brought our own champagne. If you want to make your trip to Miami memorable, go sailing with this couple. Fyi...it is a smaller, very comfortable sailboat.... so they can only handle 6 people on-board, which is why they probably charge far less than their competitors that handle the bigger charters. We took a 2 hour morning sail around Biscayne Bay. It was an extremely enjoyable and relaxing experience. My wife and I relaxed on deck while we sailed around the bay enjoying the views of the city and surrounding areas. Luis and Mabel were a perfect pair, and each allowed us to relax while learning about the region. "Sailing on Biscayne" Was also the most affordable and flexible sailing option we found in the area. Their two hour offering fit perfectly into our schedule and budget. We would love to see them again when we have more time, to enjoy a meal & swimming on the ship. Great sailing experience. My husband surprised me with a Sunset sailing for two. It was so relaxing and wonderful. Luis and Mabel are so nice and they truly love what they do! Truly as good as it gets! First of all Mabel was so helpful and patient between emails and phone calls as I coordinated this trip with my parents. We were 6 people ranging in age from 17-70 and everyone felt welcomed , comfortable and relaxed with Mabel and Luis. Sailing with Luis and Mabel is like showing at the dock with your new best friends for a sail. Hang out on the boat, eat some cheese and crackers, enjoy the view and learn some sailing from Luis. It just does not get better. We showed up with stormy weather, and wisely sat down inside and waited for a break in the weather. It was great, rain coming down, and a nice 25 knot wind to really some speed out of the boat. I am writing regarding the lack of satisfactory customer service received from Sailing on Biscayne Bay representative and captain. I purchased a Travelzoo voucher to utilize with Sailing on Biscayne Bay and scheduled an appointment to sail with their knowledge and confirmation of the purchased voucher. After scheduling and confirming for Sunday at 1PM, we called to confirm our presence and were told the captain went to run an errand and will be back in a few minutes. Half an hour later and after another call, I was told the appointment was for 2PM. Mind you, we have verbal and email confirmation for Sunday at 1PM. As the 2PM hour presented itself, still no captain arrived. Now into the 2PM hour and while making another call to Sailing on Biscayne Bay, said Captain casually walks up, after telling him this is horrible customer service we are receiving and stating he and I will have to discuss what will be done about this matter. The captain begins to walk away, without even apologizing and develops an attitude and says "Get a refund". Not allowing me the opportunity to discuss with my party of 6, what options we would like to take and how we would fulfill our sailing trip at all. An entire afternoon was wasted and turned sour from what was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon for friends to enjoy our day on the bay. The service and the captain's behavior lacked couth and professionalism which needs to be shared and forewarn future consumers. read more
