I found the free Sahaja Yoga Meditations on meetup.com. There are two weekly evening meditations; an early evening one on Tuesdays and one slightly later on Thursdays. For more about this mediation practice and its origins, the official website has lots of information. Here is the link: http://www.scotlandyoga.com/index.php
I had meditated alone before but I really didn't know what to expect from a meditation group. I personally struggle with clearing my thoughts and being able to relax, and I tend to get easily distracted if I try to meditate unguided. Everyone was really friendly and I felt welcome in the centre. I even felt comfortable enough to express my issue with being distracted before we started the meditation and the lady who was leading the meditation said that this was also a problem for her, which was reassuring. You shouldn't be self conscious about it being a group meditation, it is still very much an independent meditation but with guidance; everyone is very much focused what's going on with themselves throughout.
Some of the ideas and practices within the meditation are abstract, and you will learn this if you visit yourself. The meditation involves certain kinds of movement and thought. And it is intended to be purposeful and powerful. Certain parts of it kind of boggled my mind a little and I'm not sure how I feel about the theory behind it, but it did do good things for me. - Above all, I felt immense peace throughout the meditation and well into the evening. I felt so calm and relaxed afterwards and I slept so well; something that can be difficult after a busy or stressful day of work. - I think a little bit of the peacefulness even flowed over to the following few days!
If you're interested in meditation then you should, at least, give Sahaja a try. The sessions are free and, although appreciated, there is absolutely no pressure for donations. - The volunteers who help run the centre believe in the power of this specific meditation so much that they want to share it.
I will definitely be back to Sahaja Yoga Meditation! read more
