Wonderful 1.5 hour ride into the Ricon Mountains. Horses are very nice and beginner friendly. Took my 10 grand daughter who had never ridden before and Jay our lead wrangler was amazing with her. We did a 90 minute trail ride recently with 4 beginners, 1 expert and had Bailey as our guide. It was a morning trail ride on a Sunday and was a beautiful day for it. We arrived 30 minutes early to do the paperwork, you have the option of wearing/not wearing a helmet. The cost was $70 each, which I found reasonable balancing time, care of the horses, etc. You have the option of tipping in advance which I did like. They gave the group a little demo on how to get on the horse, along with how to help command it. These horses are very well trained and generally did everything they were supposed to on auto-pilot, which is GREAT for those who have little to no experience. I mean, horses are big and if you have even a little bit of nerves... knowing your horse is going to be super chill and go through the motions is KEY. We rode up the street to the Saguaro National Park trail head, with our ride being in the park. It was really lovely and fun. Bailey was really nice, as we had two kids up in the front so it felt like she wanted to ensure they were safe, as they were right behind her. The horses were really sweet. My husband who is used to wildly galloping around was probably a little bit bored but they rest of were not so it's all good! read more

Have friends visiting for rodeo weekend and they wanted the full cowboy experience, which made horseback riding practically mandatory. We called and they were flexible in accommodating us with short notice, which was very nice. The address was texted promptly so we knew where to go. The set up is cute, with a little office and a porta potty that was in better shape than pretty much every bathroom we went into in India on recent trip. The cowboy who initially helped us was great, and then we were handed over to Dave for our ride. Dave was VERY patient in getting the two kids in our group situated. He explained multiple times and in multiple ways, with demonstrations, until they got it. Once the ride started he kept an eye on all of us, made sure everyone was comfortable and helped take pics of us in really pretty settings. I will also admit, Dave helped me get off my horse at end, because it was physically impossible for me to do it on my own. On top of all that, they are at base of saguaro park, so the ride is in the park in a beautiful setting. read more

Really fun atmosphere started as I got out of my car and heard music playing around the paddocks. I knew I was going to enjoy my 3-hour ride right away. I can't say enough about my guide, Will, who has a beautiful singing voice and kept me entertained singing cowboy songs and Elvis songs, etc, along the way. (I hear the other guide who wasn't with us, Blake, recites poetry.) These two guides really boost Saguaro Stables to a notch above all the others. Plus, the scenery of the east section of Saguaro National Park was beautiful!! My horse, Rayban, was well-cared for and strong. Really good feel for the welfare of the horses at Saguaro Stables. Aspen and Del were excellent guides and did a great job of setting everything up. The scenery was beautiful and the experience was everything we could've asked for. Very unorganized and understaffed organization. I would look elsewhere for a horseback riding experience in Tucson. Actually became unsafe to only have one person in charge of everything as we dealt with a fall on our ride. Doubting between 3 and 4 stars, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt because communication between office and stable clearly is a big mess and the issues are not the stable staff's fault. Development: -Called a few times in the AM before eventually someone picked up at noon. I asked for the sunset ride. No problem they said, no one signed up so far. Be there at 4:45 to leave at 5pm for 1.5hour ride. -Get a call at 3:30 asking if I could be there around 4:15 to leave on a 2h 4:30pm ride instead. I agreed. -Showed up on time. Other guests were there already too. Filled out paperwork. Sat around. 430pm passed, 445pm passed, 5pm passed without any movement or update. Asked Bob (who wasn't supposed to be working there but turned out to be a hero helper) what was up. The last ride apparently still needed to come back. Sure enough 5pm they show up. We eventually leave at 5:15pm -Ride itself was fun, although one has to know that you spend most of the time in the washes, not up the hills, so nice views are limited to the very start when you enter the National Park and the very end (when we were in the dark already) -Photo stops were limited because of our little time constraint. Also, there are no fixed photo stops, so just shout at your wrangler if you want your pic taken. -Wrangler explained that the delay was caused by back-to-back rides all day and one group at the start being late. Although I empathize with her because she just follows orders, this is unfair to everyone else following that ride of assholes that showed up late. Next time, reward those who are on time and punish those that are not. -We ended up riding the last 20 minutes under the stars. I had my cellphone out with flashlight on because I couldn't see where my horse was going. Not safe.. All in all, I did have fun because we were a nice bunch. But definitely need to brush up on that customer service and communication. Would add plenty to your professionalism. read more

I took my year old son and 10 year old daughter for a1 hour tail ride and we had a blast! Things were a little back up so they weren't ready for us at our scheduled time but theres a DQ down the road so all was fine! One hour went fast but was just right for our novice rumps. I would give negative stars - if i could. Had a reservation @ 0800 and was told to arrive by 745. I arrived at 740 - no-one was there. However one horse had a saddle (hope it hadn't been on all night). I called and spoke to a nice woman and she was shocked no-one was there. At 0820 she called me back after getting a hold of someone and said they were on their way ... my comment was I'm leaving. So - don't waste your time - i really wanted a trail ride, but I'll find another place. read more

I had a fabulous time on the 2 hour trail ride. Lou was our sunset tour guide. He was super friendly and made us all feel so comfortable. The horses are well trained. The trail led to the most beautiful views of Saguaro National Park. All the ranch hands are a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this ranch for a trail ride. PLEASE BE WARNED- we signed up for a 2 hour, 160$ sunset trail ride. We were charged an extra 92$ afterwards for no reason, we've reported it as a fraudulent charge as they will not refund the amount. ALSO- We got a guide who took us down the wrong trail in the saguaro national forrest. We not only left with SO many cuts, both deep and scratches, we also were out on the trail for FOUR HOURS lost. Someone had to come looking for us from the stables, and we were riding with only the moon as a source of light and the temperature had dropped from 80 when we started to a mere 39 degrees, which we weren't prepared for bc it was supposed to be a two hour ride. The guide also never told us we were lost. Then, it was never addressed when we returned. No apology- nothing. We just left. We didn't even see the sunrise as we rode with our backs to it the entire time. When telling the company about the fraudulent charge- they offered 10% back (16$) and the amount we'd tipped before the ride. No refund for the 92$, says they have looked into it but otherwise said "everyone has bad days" in regards to the trail riding conditions. I would NEVER recommend this stable-there are PLENTY of other stables that will not do this. They also asked that we say in our review that they "tried to help" ...10% and no refund for the extra charge is not what I would consider helpful. I've attached photos of our exchange. read more

Five of us recently signed up to do a 90 minute "Sunset Horseback Ride Through Saguaro National Park." I paid extra to have us ride through the National Park, and to see sunset views while we rode. It was $70 per person + tip - so NOT a cheap venture. But I thought it would be worth it since my brother was coming into town for the week and he has 3 kids that have never been on a horse before. Sadly, I walked away feeling like I was lied to. I was very unsatisfied with this experience and I feel like I definitely overpaid for horseback riding in the Tucson area. Why do I feel like I was lied to? Because the woman on the phone billed this as a "sunset ride through the National Park." We were told to make sure we were on time since we were scheduled to hit certain locations at certain times. Well, we didn't stop once on the ride to observe the sunset - and in fact, sunset happened AFTER our ride. When we arrived early to fill out paperwork, the staff decided to take us on the horses early and I guess they didn't pay attention to the time of sunset? In addition, this ride was NOT through Saguaro National Park. It was through private land NEXT TO the National Park. If the terrain still looked like the National Park, I might not have minded - but it didn't. We could have been in any random wash in Southern Arizona. When I was deciding which package to choose, the woman on the phone also told me that I should choose "The Sunset Ride Through The National Park" because we'd get some elevation gain. Really? No - the trail was mostly flat. On a positive note, the wranglers were professional and friendly. The horses were well behaved and appeared healthy. So that's why I went with 2 stars - not 1. But I won't be riding with them again, or recommending this company to anyone that comes into town. Spend your money elsewhere. Oh, and when you go to their website be careful: This same company runs several stables around the Tucson area. read more

I enjoyed a great trail ride with wrangler, Roberta. We went out for two hours on sandy trails and in washes and really moved out. We did lots of trotting and cantering and it felt good to move out on a horse with some go. Horses' shoes were pulled for winter so we didn't go up the rocky hills. (Maybe next time) But it sure was fun! Sad to see so much development encroaching on the Saguaro NP area. I hope the stables can continue to offer horseback riding. Horses seemed well cared for. They were saddled up and ready, but left at liberty in their pen instead of being tied to a post all day. Overall a great experience. read more

I loved everything about this ride. My family and I were planning a vacation with our two young children, 7 and 4. I am also a full figured momma and many tour companies I found before our trip would not allow youngsters or heavier riders. Not only could this group accommodate all of us, they were professional, reasonably priced, and had beautiful well cared for horses. This was our first time riding so we only did an hour. That is my only regret! I couldn't have been happier with the professional and courteous staff and would gladly recommend them to anyone. Happy riding!! read more

We had a party of 9 riders for the 2hr sunset ride through Saguaro National Park. Our party consisted of 5 adults and 4 kids (ages 7-11) and mostly inexperienced riders. The wranglers did an excellent job of pairing the horse with the rider and we all had a wonderful time. The trails are uneven, as we walked through gorges and washes and around pretty big rocks, but the horses were sure footed and we could tell they had lots of desert experience. The wranglers were kind and funny and made the trip extra enjoyable with stories, and they pointed out interesting landmarks along the way. The horses, while growing in their winter coats and being a bit muddy due to recent rains, were clearly very healthy and happy and the wranglers knew and cared for each horse deeply. We all had a wonderful time and would definitely do it again! read more

I just had the most lovely 3-hr. ride anyone could ask for. My guide, Austin, was an excellent young horseman. The weather was perfect though I did borrow Austin's vest because there was a little chill in the air. He was a real gentleman! And the conversation, mostly about horses, was pleasant. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. I cannot say more good things about this ride. I have experience riding and this was your typical trail ride but it was exactly what I needed after a very stressful week. I would highly recommend this stables to others in all ranges of riding experiences. We did get a short trot in since it was just the 2 of us. I just want it known I'm not complaining at all. Just trying to let people know, you can't expect to come out and go running all over the place. Do that on your own horse. This is for pleasure riding. And it was!!! Thx for the therapy. I enjoyed my 4 hour ride through the saguaro national park. Except for a couple of hikers we passed on the trails, it was just me and the guide. Very peaceful. My horse was safe and steady, and the animals appear well cared for. The terrain doesn't vary too much, so unless you love to ride, you might be happy with a shorter ride. We had a wonderful 4-hour family ride in Saguaro National Park. The horses were clean, well-cared for and well-behaved. The trails are not particularly challenging, but the views and fresh air were wonderful. Our guide Steve did a great job leading us and keeping an eye on everyone. Although they initially said they did not provide water, we forgot ours and they generously provided some for us to drink on the trail. The morning ride (9-1) took us through both adjacent areas, then into the park along ridges and through a deep wash. We had a great time. Don't forget to tip your guide if they help make the experience worthwhile. Ours (Steve) certainly did. read more
