We did a 90 minute trail ride recently with 4 beginners, 1 expert and had Bailey as our guide. It was a morning trail ride on a Sunday and was a beautiful day for it. We arrived 30 minutes early to do the paperwork, you have the option of wearing/not wearing a helmet. The cost was $70 each, which I found reasonable balancing time, care of the horses, etc. You have the option of tipping in advance which I did like. They gave the group a little demo on how to get on the horse, along with how to help command it. These horses are very well trained and generally did everything they were supposed to on auto-pilot, which is GREAT for those who have little to no experience. I mean, horses are big and if you have even a little bit of nerves... knowing your horse is going to be super chill and go through the motions is KEY. We rode up the street to the Saguaro National Park trail head, with our ride being in the park. It was really lovely and fun. Bailey was really nice, as we had two kids up in the front so it felt like she wanted to ensure they were safe, as they were right behind her. The horses were really sweet. My husband who is used to wildly galloping around was probably a little bit bored but they rest of were not so it's all good!

Amazing trail ride into Saguaro National Park. Our trail guide, Dusty, was super friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful time doing a trail ride into Saguaro National Park. Our trail guide, Dusty, was very accommodating and nice. Just enjoyed it immensely. Would highly recommend.

Have friends visiting for rodeo weekend and they wanted the full cowboy experience, which made horseback riding practically mandatory. We called and they were flexible in accommodating us with short notice, which was very nice. The address was texted promptly so we knew where to go. The set up is cute, with a little office and a porta potty that was in better shape than pretty much every bathroom we went into in India on recent trip. The cowboy who initially helped us was great, and then we were handed over to Dave for our ride. Dave was VERY patient in getting the two kids in our group situated. He explained multiple times and in multiple ways, with demonstrations, until they got it. Once the ride started he kept an eye on all of us, made sure everyone was comfortable and helped take pics of us in really pretty settings. I will also admit, Dave helped me get off my horse at end, because it was physically impossible for me to do it on my own. On top of all that, they are at base of saguaro park, so the ride is in the park in a beautiful setting.

Awesome Time riding in Saguaro National Park for the afternoon. Good solid roan horse was excellent and the trails are amazing . Good buncha folks running the outfit.

We didn't make it home before streetlights were on. Sorry mom

Doubting between 3 and 4 stars, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt because communication between office and stable clearly is a big mess and the issues are not the stable staff's fault. Development: -Called a few times in the AM before eventually someone picked up at noon. I asked for the sunset ride. No problem they said, no one signed up so far. Be there at 4:45 to leave at 5pm for 1.5hour ride. -Get a call at 3:30 asking if I could be there around 4:15 to leave on a 2h 4:30pm ride instead. I agreed. -Showed up on time. Other guests were there already too. Filled out paperwork. Sat around. 430pm passed, 445pm passed, 5pm passed without any movement or update. Asked Bob (who wasn't supposed to be working there but turned out to be a hero helper) what was up. The last ride apparently still needed to come back. Sure enough 5pm they show up. We eventually leave at 5:15pm -Ride itself was fun, although one has to know that you spend most of the time in the washes, not up the hills, so nice views are limited to the very start when you enter the National Park and the very end (when we were in the dark already) -Photo stops were limited because of our little time constraint. Also, there are no fixed photo stops, so just shout at your wrangler if you want your pic taken. -Wrangler explained that the delay was caused by back-to-back rides all day and one group at the start being late. Although I empathize with her because she just follows orders, this is unfair to everyone else following that ride of assholes that showed up late. Next time, reward those who are on time and punish those that are not. -We ended up riding the last 20 minutes under the stars. I had my cellphone out with flashlight on because I couldn't see where my horse was going. Not safe.. All in all, I did have fun because we were a nice bunch. But definitely need to brush up on that customer service and communication. Would add plenty to your professionalism.

This is the text conversation between the stables and I

PLEASE BE WARNED- we signed up for a 2 hour, 160$ sunset trail ride. We were charged an extra 92$ afterwards for no reason, we've reported it as a fraudulent charge as they will not refund the amount. ALSO- We got a guide who took us down the wrong trail in the saguaro national forrest. We not only left with SO many cuts, both deep and scratches, we also were out on the trail for FOUR HOURS lost. Someone had to come looking for us from the stables, and we were riding with only the moon as a source of light and the temperature had dropped from 80 when we started to a mere 39 degrees, which we weren't prepared for bc it was supposed to be a two hour ride. The guide also never told us we were lost. Then, it was never addressed when we returned. No apology- nothing. We just left. We didn't even see the sunrise as we rode with our backs to it the entire time. When telling the company about the fraudulent charge- they offered 10% back (16$) and the amount we'd tipped before the ride. No refund for the 92$, says they have looked into it but otherwise said "everyone has bad days" in regards to the trail riding conditions. I would NEVER recommend this stable-there are PLENTY of other stables that will not do this. They also asked that we say in our review that they "tried to help" ...10% and no refund for the extra charge is not what I would consider helpful. I've attached photos of our exchange.

The horses were thoughtfully matched to each rider's size and experience level, and it was clear how well cared for and well-trained they all are. The guides were absolutely phenomenal -- not only friendly and professional but they went above and beyond, even riding backwards at times to capture incredible photos and videos for us! As someone who tends to be nervous around horses, I was given the most patient, gentle, and intuitive horse, which made the entire experience enjoyable and safe. When my 2-year-old decided he had to ride with Mama AFTER everyone was saddled up, they went out of their way to help us rearrange and make it happen -- and I still felt safe and confident holding him, which speaks volumes about both the horses and the staff. We've been to Rockin' Star Ranch a few times over the years, and it's always been a special place for our family. In fact, our now 12-year-old once rode the same sweet pony on a lead ride that our 2-year-old recently did -- a true testament to the love, care, and longevity they provide for their animals. Every single interaction we've had with their staff has been warm, professional, and full of kindness and patience. They are always happy to teach, answer questions, and help everyone -- from total beginners to more experienced riders -- feel welcome and confident. I can't recommend Rockin' Star Ranch enough for families or anyone looking for a safe, fun, and memorable horseback riding experience!

He even took videos and photos and shared them after the ride. I lost my keys, and he helped me find them at the end of the ride, which was extra time and effort. Iris and Stormy are awesome horses, Stormy helped with finding the keys. I would say this is the single best trail ride I've ever done, and I ride A LOT but usually have a "no trail" rule--most trail rides are a snoozefest experience, and I would straight out recommend lessons with a trainer instead. Chris' place does fun trail rides, lessons, parties, you name it.... And such great horses. Can't recommend them enough!

There are a wide assortment of rooms. Last time we had a nice Casita. This time we were in a smaller room, but it still had a wood-burning fireplace, which was so cozy on chilling evenings, The property is beautiful, the trail rides are wonderful and the desert landscape is stunning. It is such a treat to be around and ride the horses. We also went on great walks, hikes. They also have tons of activities I'd like to try next time, like pickleball, tennis, archery, fishing, etc. The pool area and Jacuzzi is so relaxing and beautiful. My husband loved the saloon, and it was a fun watering hole for happy hour. I was doing Dry January, and the bartender made me a tasty mocktail, and we met some nice people. The food was very good. We were there for Friday prime rib night, which was awesome, and loved the salad and soup bar. Looking forward to our next trip and hope to bring more family or friends next time!

This review is for Tanque Verde Guest Ranch, where I stayed for a local art retreat…read more Upon Arrival: The two front desk clerks were busy when I arrived, so Valorie who works up front offered to assist me. My room request was accommodated which I appreciated. Valorie gave me several documents to be aware of, including the list of events at the Ranch, costs and requirements. While I was going to be involved in the art retreat all day during my stay, to know these options existed was great and perhaps if I return I would take advantage of them. Be sure to get a map of the property so you can find your room and know where to park if you have a car! While buildings are marked, there are twists and turns on the roads into the property and within the property, so it is helpful to have a map you can use throughout your stay. Guest Room: Was clean upon arrival. There was an extra blanket in the closet which I appreciated since it got down to the 40's at night during my stay. The water in the shower came out nice and hot! There is a coffee pot with regular and decaf coffee stocked each day, iron and ironing board, a small mini fridge for beverages, a safe in the clothes closet, but no microwave. Therefore, for those of you who have gotten used to a microwave in the room, be aware the Ranch does not supply one, but there was coffee, hot water and tea in the restaurant building which you can access along with granola bars and fresh fruit. There was a fireplace in my room, but there was not any wood in the fireplace nor outside the room door. Because the fireplace was around the corner from the bedroom, I did not call the front desk to inquire about having a fire started or wood delivered because I prefer to have eyeballs on fire at all times and a fire would not have been in my sight had I gone to bed while it was still smoldering. Food: Considering the kitchen staff was serving a large number of people at the art retreat at the same time, they did a good job of getting the food out on time, items kept up with being supplied, and having the guests beverages brought to tables timely. Issue: There was a barbecue on Wednesday night which was a great idea with music and large pit fires going to keep us warm because it was chilly outside. But the outdoor temperature made it hard to keep the food warm and by the time we went through the food line and sat down at one of the picnic tables, the food was cold so we passed on this meal after realizing the food temperature issue (chicken, beef, ribs, mac and cheese, and beans). Grounds: There was a fairly decent rain storm a day prior to the Retreat arrival, which resulted in the horse barns, stable areas, and the cattle areas were soaked and muddy. This meant the manure was also being trampled into the mud. Therefore, the smell of manure permeated the Ranch until everything had a chance to dry out by the end of the week. The Ranch hands used machinery to pile up the waste to try to get it out from underneath the animals, but the smell was what it was due to the circumstances. I only bring it up to say, if you don't mind this odor or if you are going to be at the Ranch when rain is not in the forecast, this won't be an issue. But, it is a "Ranch" so some things mixed with mother nature, cannot be avoided! Overall, I found the grounds to be quiet. I heard the guests next to me coming and going when they slammed their room door, but otherwise, it was quiet, which I very much appreciated, since I went there for a personal art Retreat. Staff: The staff at the Ranch were all very pleasant and tried to make people happy. There are golf carts to get people where they are going, or for those who do not want to walk on the uneven surface or prefer not to walk for any reason. Staff tried to make the stay enjoyable. Memorable Issue: There was a power outage during our stay at 8:00 PM. Our group was in The Barn when this happened. Staff said this has never happened before. We were instructed to head to reception so we could be directed accordingly (guest rooms needing a fire for heat as an example). By the time we got to reception flash lights and lanterns for light were all distributed because there was a large group on-site. Therefore, one of the staff walked me back to my room with their cell phone light. When we got to my room I told him my phone flash light only had about 26% life remaining on it. A staff member came with a flash light about an hour later. I believe the Ranch would benefit from a disaster kit which is kept on-site with at least one flashlight per room (among other items) that can be distributed to guests. The electric came back on about 1:00 am, but it was a cold dark night with no heat with the outside temperature in the 40's that night in the dark. This brought my overall rating down to four stars as a result. Overall: This would be a great family vacation or to stay at if you love dude ranches and horses!

The covered arena is one of the largest I have seen, is lighted, and open late. Raven Ranch is right off the Pantano wash and offers amazing trail riding right from the property. The few trainers that work from Raven Ranch are very friendly and all treat the horses they train very well. Cows are even often on property to use in training with one of the trainers! The owners are very pleasant and are very active in ranch duties. While one mucks stalls, the other helps with maintenance of the property. Owners and trainers are immediately alerted of even the smallest issues with their horses so immediate action can be taken, if needed. They feed the highest quality hay at the weight recommended by the owner and even offer lunch, supplement, and medication feeding for a little extra per month. I would highly recommend Raven Ranch to anyone looking to board, learn dressage, cow work, or anything in between. Great place to be, great vibes, positive energy.

This place continues to go down hill. The current owners have owned the ranch for four years. They…read moredon't live on property, and don't even live in Tucson. They have not been hands on ever. Instead they hired a tyrant manager who threatens boarders when they question anything happening on property, including light feedings, which occurs frequently. When asked about repairs we are ignored, to the point of horses being injured and having to be put down. After putting the ranch up for sale for an insane price, as we all know it wasn't worth even close to what they were asking, they decide to make the poor decision to lease the ranch to a 26 year old with a record. Including misuse of livestock. Prior to this they stopped dragging footing, allowed weeds to grow all over the property and continue to not engage in any proper fly control. They were reached out to by numerous boarders and yet nothing happened or improved. The "new" manger at least fired all previous management, who had not done anything at the barn in years. She calls her self a trainer and doesn't even work with her own horse. Takes people's money to work their horses and then does nothing with them. She constantly lies about why she is constantly late to feeding at night and or not doing her job, EVER. Now that the ranch is under 50 horses, with one arena left with decent footing that still isn't being maintained properly, the owners have determined they are now going to "manage" the ranch and have hired new employees, yet have been duped into bringing back the previous manager as an hourly employee. The only reason most of us stay is for the best trainer onsite, Casi, and the owners continue to refuse to realize that listening to her and her boarders would actually help them make the ranch much improved. It's unbelievable that boarders have continued to stick it out in the horrible conditions and the lack of use of half the property. All the owners want is to make money and they some how thought this ranch would make it for them through a "flip". They don't care about the welfare of the horses and they don't really even know what they are doing because they are not horse people themselves. Not sure what will finally make them wake up and realize they continue to make one bad decision after another. This is a customer service business and their customer service is just as dilapidated as what they have turned the barn into.
