What you see is what you will get. To give some background, I'm a male, 21 year old traveler from New York. I opted for the hot stone massage which was absolutely delightful. It's extremely hard to compare to anything else, but it's a warm, relaxing experience for your whole body. I showed up a little bit before my massage to use the facilities, which are absolutely excellent. They have a sauna, a steam room, a cold bath, a pool, a hot tub/jacuzzi, a gym, showers, and a changing room. Everything feels very clean, high quality, and new. If you're in Oslo and have a day to spend to yourself, I highly recommend Artesia.

I only recently introduced to Thai massage, so I do not consider myself an expert in any ways. However, at this point in my life, I do feel comfortable commenting on service and an over all experience. Bangkok Thai Spa, has a neat location, just a short walk from Youngstorget, It is easy to spot, and gives and immediate senesce of professionally on the exterior part. Once inside, you get a mixed signal. The place looks clean, and is big with 8-10 beds, all separated with pleasant colored curtains. Four people was just sitting around chatting with each other when I walked in around 3PM on a Wednesday. I was immediately approached and the lady asked me what kind of massage I wanted, and before I managed to answer she already told me what kind of massage I was getting. I tried asking about what the differences between them was, (they have a list, ranging in price from 600-800 for 1hour, which is not to bad in Oslo), but she sort of blew me off. A little confused I payed to another lady, and a third one showed me into one of the middle compartments. So far so good, my problem is not that someone chose my massage for me, but that she was not able to answer my question. But this is where things get slightly strange. I am very used to people leaving the room while you change, however my massage therapist staid in the room. It really does not bother me, however, when changing I did realize all the curtains was see through, and the personal and other guests walking in and sitting outside can see me. This was uncomfortable. The oil massage which I was getting was pretty good. My therapist was gentle and kept asking if I was ok. Personally this probably not my favorite type of massage, it is just a lot of flat hand rubbing with oil and not enough pressure. That being said, it really helps with circulation and you do feel better and relaxed while doing it. Or at least you would be able to relax more if the curtains where not see through and you could hear the employees chatting on the other side. I am conflicted about Bangkok Thai Spa because I really really want to like it, but it was a very strange experience. I do believe that they do excellent massages but this is not a place to go if you are shy!

With a beautiful pool, sauna and steam room accompanied by comfortable lounge chairs and a sweeping view of Oslo, Artesia is a decadent, luxurious and stress eroding environment. While you can use the facilities without booking a treatment, I decided to splurge on a hot stone massage and am so glad that I did. It melted away every morsel of stress from my fingers to my toes. My masseuse was very attentive and professional and I believe his hands may just be magical. Absolutely brilliant massage. The only complaint I would have for Artesia would be their strange rules about using their changing rooms, lockers and robes. When I arrived at the spa I requested a robe to change into and the woman at the front desk informed me I would need to pay 100 NOK in order to use a robe and their changing facilities. While I understand that charge if you are only using the pool facility I don't think it makes sense if you have already paid for a treatment. She continued that as a hotel guest I am responsible for bringing my own robe and that I need to contact the hotel front desk to obtain one. This information was not made readily available to me before my massage, even though I did book via phone. Sort of took away from the magical and stress free oasis feel that Artesia managed to create.

Unlike American/western spas, you're given a top and bottom rather than robe and stay clothed, no oil. The masseuse massages you over a towel. Doesn't affect quality of massage at all. Atmosphere very calming, walking over stone bridge with water which made me feel like I was outside and completely unexpected. The waiting room was calming with complimentary fruits and tea.

They had a replacement but I might have to wait a little while. I wasn't thrilled but I told her as long as I got the hour and treatment I paid for it would be okay. A few minutes later a therapist showed up, faster than expected so great. I explained to her which treatment I wanted, but after she helped me get changed she started prepping me for a completely different treatment. I stopped her, repeated what I wanted, and she said oh I don't usually do that treatment. Then she left the room for a few minutes and when she came back she said it's OK I'm going to take care of you. I spent the first 20 minutes of my hour wondering if I was going to get the treatment I ordered and requested, which was not at all relaxing. The therapist was nice, but the treatment was just OK, and didn't include the footbath described on the treatment menu. At the end of the treatment the therapist repeated that she doesn't usually do the treatment and gave me an explanation I hadn't asked for about how she'd been in a meeting and they'd pulled her to do the treatment because they were short. I know things happen beyond anyone's control, but they shouldn't have affected my experience. As a guest I shouldn't know about your staffing problems. I'm there to have a massage and relax, not feel like you're going out of your way to give me only some of what I paid for. Will not be going back.

When it comes to back pain, I have learned not to expect miracles. I did not get one, but by the end of the massage, I was at least able to lift my arm. Heidi was my massage therapist and was one of the best I have had, She listened to what I needed. I have asked a lot of massage therapists to put more emphasis on one spot, but few have ever listened. Heidi actually listened and worked on my shoulder a ton and it helped a lot. I made a reservation over the phone 5 hours prior and walked in an was taken care of right away. The rooms are separated by curtains which totally ok. I have used multiple locations in New York where curtains is all that is separating you from the other rooms. However my main problem with it at this location is that the registrar and waiting aria is right outside the rooms which means you here absolutely everything that is going on out there. To me this is very annoying and not relaxing at all especially when your masseuse keep speaking in Thai to the other masseuse through the curtain. I had made a reservation for a 90 minute massage, which I got. However half way through my massage my masseuse left and started another massage while a second one finished mine. I found this very strange and as a costumer I did not make me feel valued. My main problem with this is that the masseuses had very different styles and I felt that my full body massage was kind of cut in half. In general the massage was pretty good, and Siam has great prices. 1 hour for 600NOK and 90 minutes for 850NOK. Personally I probably won't be back and will continue looking for the best value massage place in Oslo.
