Our experience with Rusty was a mixed bag. At the beginning, he was great to work with and provided a beautiful layout for our landscaping. However, when we went to go picked out the plantings for our yard, I was offered a pretty limited variety of things to choose from at a greenhouse/nursery he wanted to use. Because we had a very harsh winter last year. It killed off a lot of the plants that were at the nurseries. I wanted lots of grasses for our yard, and despite them having a very limited number of grasses, I went ahead with his recommendations. Many of the plants looked very dead, but I was told they were dormant and would "bounce back". Six of large the grasses that he planted were absolutely dead and stayed that way. They never got any new growth on them. Additionally, several of the heather that he planted were also in really bad condition and never bounced back either. This is important info for later. Rusty also installed an irrigation system. We were going to hire someone who does nothing but irrigation, but Rusty told me that he would not "guarantee any of the plants" if we didn't use him for the irrigation. I was in town during the whole process of planting and setting up the irrigation system. Rusty set up the irrigation system to run on a program that he said would be best. A few days after everything finished up, I had to leave for Michigan for about three weeks. I left the irrigation system on, confident that it was doing its job since Rusty installed everything and assured me that it was working. Needless to say, it was not working properly. Lines were blowing open because they were very shoddily put together and one whole giant section was not working at all. When I returned in late May, many of the plantings looked really bad. Some were just as dead as when they were put in and others looked like they were struggling a lot. Rusty came by and looked at things and scolded me for not running the irrigation. I told him that the irrigation had been set up by him and programmed by him and had been running according to his schedule. I told him that I wanted some of the plantings replaced and he grumbled about it and told me they needed more time. 95% of those I pointed out were just dead. In addition, I told him that the largest planting area seemed very dry like it was not getting any water. He argued with me and said it was working fine. I asked him whether or not The nursery would replace the dead items and he told me no. I pressed him on this because I've never heard of a nursery not guaranteeing their plants for at least 90 days, especially when they were in such poor condition when we got them. He replaced about 12 plants and expected me to pay for them. I told him no because It was not my fault that they were planted dead and stayed that way. Additionally, there were many blank areas in our Landscaping and I went to purchase more plants, which Rusty then put in to the Landscaping for me. I've had to purchase more plants this spring as many plants didn't make it. Six heather, six more grasses and two large plantings to the front of our house because there were many empty areas. Because our irrigation wasn't working properly, I spent all summer watering heavily every other day to make sure that we didn't lose any other plants. It pretty much defeated the whole point of having irrigation. Over the winter, the valve boxes completely filled with water and shorted out the half ass set up. I had to pay someone $700 this spring to replace all the valves in the boxes. Prior to him starting, the system wouldn't turn on at all because everything was shorted out. Now that irrigation doesn't run at all, I had our irrigation guy call Rusty to find out about a layout plan, but he refused to provide it saying that I hadn't finished paying him. We paid over $40,000 for landscaping on a small lot. This was to include full irrigation for the area, and a supposed guarantee on the plants. Neither of which he has stood by. I would NEVER recommend working with Rusty due to him not standing by his work. read more

Can't say enough positive comments about our experience working with Sage Landscaping. Rusty and his crew are the best. Rusty worked with us to design the entire landscape concept for our new home. He listened to what we wanted and turned our thoughts into reality using his knowledge of materials and overall design experience to embrace the beauty of our home and natural surroundings. Working in cold nasty weather never dampened their enthusiasm or desire to get the job done. It was impressive to watch the progress made each day. Rusty and his crew were a pleasure to work with and they involved us along the way to make critical decisions. Rusty set realistic expectations for the project timeline and provided a fair and reasonable estimate. He also was willing to add on additional items to the overall project. The end result is more beautiful than we imagined and the quality is top-notch. The artistry in the details (including cutting pavers, walkway layout, to boulder and plant placement) was very impressive. We would highly recommend Sage Landscaping to family and friends or anyone looking to bring a professional design to their home. We've had Rusty return to do two additional projects - landscaping for our ADU and building a fence. Both turned out spectacular!!! We hope to come up with additional projects as we look forward to seeing Rusty and crew again. read more

We were referred to this business after they installed a fence for a neighbor. They were one of three outfits we asked for bids, and they came in lowest. We had them remove our old fencing around our large garden area and replace it with a larger, taller deer fence, as well as build a bird-proof cage around our blueberry plants, plus construct an arbor. No moss grows on this crew - the truck arrives, and they are working ASAP. Very good dealing with spouse's stream of "Can you just do / change this one little thing?" requests, and didn't charge an arm and a leg to do them. My husband & I recently had Sage Landscape & Design landscape our backyard. It was a blank canvas & Rusty, the owner, gave us some great ideas. We have a lovely flower garden, River Rock pathway that looks like a flowing stream with trees & plants around it. Rusty even took us to the nursery & helped select plants & trees. Rusty & his crew also put in a lovely patio & a great looking fence. The crew were so nice to work with & very friendly & personable. Be very careful with this company. I had them put in backyard irrigation and a rock creek extension very recently. He said he could match the type of rocks used in the existing bed so it would look the same. Not even close. Then one of the sprinkler heads broke the day before we were going to hydro seed the lawn, so I had to have our local gardener replace it since Sage Landscape is over an hour from our home. I called Rusty, the owner, and told him what happened, and that I had the broken sprinkler saved for him because I was sure it was under warranty. I paid $35 for it plus the gardener's time. I asked him to just reimburse the $35, and he said, "Too bad, you're on your own." Then, he slammed the phone down. This, after I had just paid him over $2,300. Not a company I'd ever want to do business with or have on our property. read more

Rusty and his crew completely renewed my yard, front and back. They worked through rain and cold, as they mostly worked through the winter months. They showed up when they said they would or Rusty called to let me know if he needed to change the schedule, and that was not done often. They were always concerned with what I wanted and how I felt about what they had done, and if I wanted to change or add something they did it with a smile. Both the members of Rusty's crew smoked, but I NEVER found a cigarette butt on my property after they left for the day. For me, that was an indication of the respect they had for me and for the work they were doing. Now, with very young plants, the yards still look quite spare (and this was my preference), but I have confidence that it will be spectacular as the plants mature. read more

We needed a fence built to keep our dog from chasing cars. We have an acre and a half of beautifully landscaped yard to match our wonderful timber frame home. I wanted a landscaper, not just a fence builder. Rusty was awesome. His bid was reasonable and he fit us in right away. We told him what we wanted and he added his ideas and we came up with a great plan. The work was completed quickly, professionally and beautifully. His team of three were always friendly, cheerful and polite, and boy were they strong, hard workers! I would hire him again in a heartbeat. We are very, very happy with his work. read more
