Had a lovely time with my family this past week on Captain Hagen's boat. He was very friendly and nice to chat with. He took us out to a secluded spot in Shelter Island where the water was so calm and warm to swim in. Afterwards we sailed around to see the mansions in Sag Harbor. He even added a flag from our birth country to the boat! Definitely recommend booking with him again!

Absolutely incredible experience! Captain Hagen set my partner and I on the most magical late afternoon boat excursion. Perfect weather, perfect water, OUTSTANDING Captain. We sailed around the bay up to Shelter Island and to different secret spots where the only noise was nature's song. So serene! Captain Hagen knew so much about the area and the noteworthy residents that call Sag Harbor home during the year. Would definitely love to go on another tour next time in Sag Harbor. So worth it!

Thanks Captain Hagen for creating beautiful memories for our family (especially on your birthday!) . You are super knowledgeable and friendly. Catching started off slow but captain Hagen made it a point to find some great places before we returned to dock. True gentleman. Highly recommend. A+++

We went out with Captain Hagen last week, who obviously knows and loves the waters around Sag Harbor. A beautiful day, a wonderful experience. We recommend the comfortable seats at the front of the boat. What a lovely day! Tonnerre de Brest ! Quelle belle sortie ! Merci capitaine !

Wow, what an epic end to a pandemic summer. Captain Hagen's boat adventure was an absolutely blast. He has so much nautical knowledge - even started the boat trip by hanging my national flag (Canadian) on top of the boat. Captain Hagen took us to a beautiful swimming area near Shelter Island. After swimming he took us tubing behind his boat and I got to experience some cross over sport (sort of like a wakeboard but the bindings are set up like waterskis). This was completely nostalgic of summers spent at a cottage in Canada - tubing/wakeboarding/waterskiing. I would highly recommend Captain Hagen's boat cruise. I can't wait to do it again next summer!

I cannot say enough positive things about Captain Hagen and his wonderful tour! We hired Capt. Hagen for a sunset cruise around Sag Harbor for the first night of a friend's Bachelorette weekend. He was hilarious, professional, and overwhelmingly accomodating. His knowledge of the history of Sag Harbor was amazing and he knew when we wanted to hear more and when we all just wanted to bask in the beautiful views. So impressed by him, his gorgeous boat, and the sunset views of this part of the country. Highly recommended!!!

Captain Ernie was one of four different guides my group used over three days in mid September 2019…read more He knows the waters around Montauk well and his boat is well maintained. The problem we encountered was a pretty sour attitude from our guide...to a high degree actually. Given his fee ($800, easily the highest of the four guides we used) and his relatively small boat (the smallest of the four we used), you'd think he make up for it with a good nature. Nope. The day on the water was tough and he had to work hard to put us on fish, which he did. All day long. That's a plus. The problem is, all the captains we used worked their rears off. They just did so at rates and with attitudes that were much more reasonable.

I am sure the best fly fisherman will be well served by Ernie's abilities and knowledge. And then…read morethere's guys like me. I spend a lot of time fishing, and you'd think I would be better at it than I am. I do not spend a lot of time fly fishing, but I love each time I have gotten out there. Not only did Ernie get us to the fish, he gave us clear instructions to stay at opposite ends of the boat, kept us orderly and to work on our casts regardless of the conditions. First day was WINDY! I am a return customer and will continue to be. I learn more each time we fish together and Ernie's willingness and enthusiasm out there on Monday and back at 'em Tuesday was something that I will always remember. Watch the way he approaches fish vs some of the other guides, he is always aware and that allows him to put you in the most optimal spot to engage from. My cousin and I caught 18 false albies in pretty sporty conditions Monday and I got 10 the next morning in perfect autumn weather...if you have never fished this area in the fall, its impossible for me to describe it accurately...check out some of the photos at www.flyfishmontauk.com Sure its his job, but Ernie French is there for fish and for the folks he's sharing this amazing fishery with. His is a steward of the environment. Nothing short of outstanding!
