I was expecting a sit-down spot with hearty meals, but instead, it was more Imbiss style, with a lot of the food being pre-prepared stuff you could order. I initially thought about getting one of the rice dishes, but I saw someone else's and it didn't look particularly inspiring. Instead, I went with the soup of the day, which was a lentil soup. It was warm but somewhat bland (as I find tends to be the case with soup just about anywhere, sadly). I also ordered a side of bolani without the yogurt sauce, and I am pleased to report that it was tasty... just as I've always remembered bolani to be. My lunch companion had a small salad, a pakora, and a samosa. He thought the latter two were not very flavorful until he added the chili chutney sauce provided and that definitely gave them a kick. The person working (the owner?) was a very friendly man, though he did seem a bit overwhelmed with the lunch rush. Very vegetarian friendly, though not overly so for vegans. Fridays and Saturdays are also when you can get the Maultaschen, which are supposed to be great. Overall, I think it's a good place to grab a light snack, particularly if you've not had Afghan food before.

I tried 6+ different spots and ruyam was by far the best. Came here on a Thursday at ~11am (to avoid the lunch rush) and it was jam packed with students and working professionals. Luckily the staff here are super efficient yet patient with customers. It's self-service. You order at the counter and they'll call out your number. Many claimed their seats before ordering, which id recommend as there are only ~15 tables inside. Once I ordered, food was ready in ~5min. And it was huge! A fresh flatbread slathered with a delicious garlic sauce and stuffed with warm juicy chicken kebab sliced fresh off the spit and fresh salad mix. The thought of this kebab sandwhich is making me drool. The toppings were almost falling out because of how much they stuffed in. Probably one of the best bites I had in Berlin! And for €8, it was a steal! When I went it was not crowded and typical. The staff mentioned it's usually a 40-60 min wait with lines out the door.

I consider myself something of a Döner aficionado (a self-proclaimed "Dönermeister"), and My Döner…read morein Alt-Moabiter Str. ranks among my very favorite in Berlin. In fact, I would now consider it my go-to place. Over the years, I have developed a proprietary Döner rating system based on the following categories: -Bread -Meat -Sauce -Salat ...and a more general "synergy" category that tries to evaluate the overall experience of that particular Döner while also serving as a catch-all for other things like price, friendliness, value, etc. My Döner, which is owned by a wonderful Turkish-German named Mezlüt (a baker by training), earns high marks for all of these: -Bread: 4 (hot, crispy, and pretty traditional) -Meat: 5 (plentiful, tasty, and not fatty) -Sauce: 5 (the ever-elusive "Cocktailsoße") -Salat: 5 (fresh) -Synergy: 5 (all elements blended perfectly together from start to finish) When in Berlin, one naturally has the choice of quite literally hundreds of Döner stands, and I am rarely disappointed no matter where I go. But the quality of My Döner--and Mezlüt's friendliness and commitment to his craft (he enjoys his own Döner while there, after all)--not to mention the massive Döner you get here for just 3€, is my new favorite and definitely worth your attention. It doesn't have the unique veggies of Mustafa's or the hype of some other ones, but the fact is that there is no gimmick here. It is just a delicious, traditional, and masterfully assembled Döner, every time, and always with a smile. Thank you, Mezlüt!!
