This is usually my go to Safeway because is closer to my house. This Safeway needs to be more organize. I like their Deli dept people are nice and everything is fresh. The flower dept needs more improvements sometimes they have really bad flowers even if you go early in the morning, there's an older lady she's nice but there's another younger lady she gives you attitude if you ask for those papers to take home to make your own bouquet. read more

Nice big Safeway. It is always clean and well stocked. I love their fresh bakery items and prices are always right. Produce though can get quite pricy. Never had an issue with the staff working there though they do seem confused when using an online gift card. read more

I visit Safeway at least once a week. Serves has changed. Went in for weekly shopping. At the checkout the clerk Jericah never said help but insisted I rate her a 10 on the survey. As I was review the question she kept telling me to just touch 10. I want to rate her a 1 but she was push and demanding. Never said anything else to me. Had the. Same service on my next visit just no survey. Not sure what is happening to lad fashion customer service. read more

OK, I see lots of folks giving the "blahs" to this Safeway, but in the area, it's my favorite. I've been going there for years and recognize many of the cashiers and baggers - who are always friendly to me. Their store is clean and well stocked, which is mostly what I count on when I go grocery shopping - and I love the special deals on things they run there from time to time. It's a big enough store that I can get most things I need and because it's a Safeway, it's pretty reasonable. I do wish they were a touch better staffed in the deli section, as sometimes I just walk on by when I see the lone employee trying to help a bit line of folks, but I get that staffing right is hard. But the basic job -- of providing me my groceries -- they seem to do quite well. And definitely my favorite part is checking out and chatting with the clerk and the baggers - it's nice to see long term staff who do such a good job. read more

Well stocked and Safeways have some good deals occasionally. Its very clean inside and looks better than my old location on Meridian Ave. Staff is always friendly and helpful though they seem to be always short staffed. read more

This is a HUGE Safeway store. Not that old. It has a Floral Department, Bakery Department, Pharmacy in the back section of the store they also have a Meat department for those of you looking for something to grill. Some Starbucks coffee at the front and a bunch of self check out machines. It also has a gas station outside in the parking lot. This is the SOUTH SIDE of San Jose called Village Oaks pretty preppy, hi-tech people living around there. I just found out that the Bakery Department now makes Tres 3 Leches cakes OMG! That is a Latino delicacy. Nom Nom city for those of you that are not aware. Most of the Mexican Bakeries make these types of cakes and pastries so for Safeway to make them now is a BIG DEAL. They make them by the whole cake or slices. How convenient. I decided to buy a couple of slices and had one for lunch today with a cup of coffee and it was FANTABULOUS!! DELICIOSO! MUY BUENO!! Had to YELP it out to the crowd of YELPY'S We no longer need to go to the Mexican Bakeries anywhere, because Safeway has stepped it up a little and now competing with the TRUE ONES! read more

Went to Safeway to do a grocery shopping It's not my usual store, but I wanted to try something newer in the neighborhood. I went to the cottle location. Now that they have completely eliminated plastic bags and charge you for the paper bags here is the crap they give you!! No handles, I think they are also made of kraft toilet paper because they just fall apart. The bagger bagged half the items like a psychopath then just walked away and left me to finish. I'm going back to my old reliable store that treats you better and the prices are better or comparable at worst. Do better Safeway. You should be ashamed of charging customers for zero service and defective bags. We left them all in the cart so you can reuse them! read more

Staff is very unprofessional, I came so many times for the western union desk and 90% of the times the person who is responsible for the desk (who is only a single person for some reason) is always not available, I had to wait for 20 mins sometimes for them to show up I even tried to come at different times but they were not available , for different excuses I tried other branches and they were way more reliable and more professional read more

Before writing this review, I spoke to the Safeway director upwards of three times and nothing has been done about employees breaking terms of service and doing things on the clock that they're not supposed to do on the clock. Also notified other directors about the lack of current director of this local area not completing his work. The service at the Safeway used to be very good but recently it has gone downhill for basic necessities. It is still a place to go, but if you're trying to get Pokémon cards with your kid or a family member it is not the place. Unfortunately, the service at the Safeway has gone down quite a bit ever since the Pokémon vending machine has become a part of this Safeway the staff constantly fight customers over it while you're checking out you hear them arguing with people only to kick them out and then right after they're gone, the employee will go and buy the vending machine. I'm sure if loss prevention took the time and looked at the cameras in corporate and franchise Pay attention to what is going on here they would do a training on what not to do on your shift and on the clock. Another director informed me that no staff is allowed to touch any of the vending machines at any locations while they're on the clock. This is not the case for this location, the workers, STRICTLY all of the ladies, and younger guys are doing anything they can to kick people Off the machine and out of the store, with threats of trespassing and also using security to unreasonably harass guests when they've been standing near or around the machine for a 2-4 minutes. Something needs to be done as soon as possible. Also the stocking manager in the morning always takes out hot wheels on company time aswell! read more

The location is not managed well. Its not under staffed it just lazy Employees. People parking anywhere. They choice including disabled, directly in front, and at marked online pickup. Also they clearly over looking theft. I have seen people just walk in and out without paying Im just a customer and I see it They dont care. They dont answer phone and close meat and delivery early.. they probably just laugh when they read this. The management should be ashamed they have let this location turn into a dumpster.. feel bad for Employees that could learn or be better. But with leadership like this. No chance. Wish this wasn't my local grocery store. Ill be utilizing Amazon as much as possible. Don't want to support bad and lazy team. read more

Friendly and great service from the team managing and handling the bakery. I placed an online order for a chocolate Spiderman cake. My nephew's birthday was coming up and I knew I would not be there to celebrate w/ him, so I wanted to surprise him w/ a birthday cake. I guess what I selected online was not available, so staff called me to offer me what they have. The 2 ladies I spoke w/ were great. Even though I had to make some changes, the cake came out beautiful and delicious. I did not get to enjoy it, but they all enjoyed the cake; said it was moist and not too sweet. Pickup was quick and easy. Thank you for this lovely cake and wonderful service! read more

I stopped by the Safeway on Cottle Road in San Jose to buy the corn on sale 8 pieces for $1. I asked a clerk named Annadi to enter my home phone # after entered the 1st # which is my wife phone #. She told me the phone # entered here have to be right with person here in store. Then, she stopped and didn't do it. Wishing I could give this place negative stars. Will someone please get rid of management and begin anew? Customer service is rude, and do not understand how to complete their job adequately. I don't even need you to do your job well...can someone in that store please just do part of their job? Stop hiring people just to "hire". Will not be shopping at this Safeway any longer. I have shopped Safeway for decades. I grudgingly did the stupid phone number card they extorted us into getting to get discounts. Now they want you to get an invasive shitty app that does not even get you the discount they promise?!? Aw HELL no. Today I was reminded that why I haven't shopped at Safeway in years and why I won't be returning anytime soon. The prices are so outrageous. Especially compared to places like Costco or Trader Joe's or target. All reasonably close options. For instance, the price of a pound of pre-wrapped ground beef is almost $10 more at Safeway than it is at Trader Joe's. They might have an occasional coupon here, but if you don't have the app, you can't use it. You can download the app, but it will take 10 minutes because there is no service here and the Wi-Fi is super slow. You can take a picture of the coupon but they won't let you use that to scan it. So many things are in the wrong spots so you will think you're getting a better deal only to discover it costs much more when you get to check out. The clerks aren't very helpful because this is the store policy and even if something was in the wrong spot, they won't budge. Safeway used to have the best customer service. It's nonexistent now. Shop elsewhere. read more

The food selection at this Safeway is good, and it looks nice inside and has a nice ambiance. Better than a lot of Safeways in other areas of San Jose. However I give it a low rating due to the night time employees. I usually go at night so I don't know if the day employees are as bad. If I have a question or if a deal from the app doesn't go through so that I have to talk to them about it to fix it, I always get an attitude. They're always in groups, especially at the self check out, standing in a circle and talking. They get irritated if you interrupt their social time if you have a question. Their vibe is negative as well, and they act like they're in cliques at school but they are in their 20s and Safeway workers. I think they need to be more professional at this location. read more

Mad is an understatement. I went to Safeway today, in a rush to buy groceries. Bought ball park franks among other things. When I got home and opened the hotdog package, it smelled so sour there is no doubt it has turned bad several days. I fished out the package wrapping from the trash and checked the date. I was about to feed my kid hotdogs that are 11 days after Use by date, not sell by date. Even online, it said it's not recommended to consume unopened package after one week of SELL BY DATE for hotdogs. This to me was deliberately left out to be purchased not caring who gets sick because how can a company such as Safeway not see 11 days after use by date. Be warned, Safeway will sell you expired items and hope it gets consumed without any incident. I would rate this place a 0 but Yelp doesn't allow it. read more

This review was from my visit today. Went in for one item, butter. It was on sale my sister & I both checked to make sure you did not need a digital coupon. I get to the check out and the butter does not ring up for the sale price. I am at self check out so I ask the man working the front self check out stands to help me and I explain to him what's going on. He's like it's because it's a digital coupon, I said no it's not we checked and he insisted it was and grabs the ad whips it open and is searching high & low to prove me wrong. Not in there so he storms off to go check the price, comes back a few minutes later and does not say a word to me he just adjusts the price. I said oh so you saw it was not a digital coupon and he's says to me I could not tell. He was so nasty & mean I wanted to tell him if you are in this bad of a mood you should have stayed home. His name was Richard aka Dick. Usually the staff are nice at this store but the vibe in the store that day was not a good one. read more

Whiskey review for Bullet Bourbon Frontier Whiskey . Why is it you people at Safeway continue to treat me like a child. I went into the store on Saturday to get my pre-marathon race meal. I always get spaghetti with marinara, this gives me the carbohydrates needed to finish a race that long. While I was in the spaghetti aisle, I noticed an employee named Fernando cleaning up a jar of sauce that had fallen off the shelf and made a big mess on the ground. He made sure he blocked off the area to prevent customers from slipping in the mess. He took pride in his work, finished quickly and made sure the area was clean and dry before he moved on to his next task. It's no wonder why this store always looks so clean. As a person always work late, i really appreciate safeway open until 2am every night so that i could get grocery there. In tern of pricing, merchandise offering, service and quality, i believe safeway is pretty much middle of the road compare to lucky, trader joe and wholefood. The vegetable and fruit section is really as good as it gets but their seafood and meat section sometime i wish they have more choices. Customer service are always great. They are always friendly and eager to help their decor and decoration is also sufficient and neutral. Last thing is i also wish they carry more minority and ethnic items. read more

The good: They have many self-checkout kiosks and a Starbucks inside. The girl working at the Starbucks was very friendly. The store is organized and easy to navigate. I like that their baked goods, bakery and cake displays are always full with many options to choose from. Their baguettes are delicious. They have a sale shelf in the back with items that are 50% off due to them expiring soon. They have a macaron ice cream sandwich and mochi freezer. The bad: I'm always surprised when a box of granola bars cost on average $4.99 up to $8.99. The yogurt selection was small. The parking lot can get pretty crowded. The interesting: Safeway has a Club Card where you earn points for every dollar you spend. You're supposed to get a birthday freebie and some kind of reward for every 100 points you get but I have yet to see/receive that. read more

I worked here in the Spring of 2020 & I was fired for having OCD. Here's the full story, you be the judge, I guess: At every job I've ever had, I always give my 110%. I constantly go the extra mile, I always show up on time, I show up on my days off when someone else calls in sick & they ask me "can you come in today?" & overall, I'm very eager to please. Ask absolutelyany employer I've ever had, they'll tell you that. I applied to this Safeway's meat department. During my first month, I was occasionally told by my coworkers that I was doing a terrific job. How I wish one of them had told this to the managers, but what happened next was not really THEIR fault. Around the first month of my employment here, one of my fellow employees ( I think it was the new guy, but whatever) told the manager that I was "pacing around all day." Due to my OCD, I have no choice but to step on every crack in my path on the floor. If I could stop, I would, but I have OCD, so I can't. One of the managers approached me one day & told me that he had recieved word that I was "just pacing around all day" and that this was automatically the same as "not working" (Even though I was getting a tremendous amount of work done & clearly trying my best at every possible turn.) I explained to this manager that asking a person with OCD to force themselves NOT to do OCD things, such as stepping on the cracks in my path, is like asking a person with schizophrenia to choose not to hear voices in their heads anymore. It's not something I can control & asking me to control this behavior isn't actually something I can do. What this manager SHOULD have done was allow me to continue the amazing work I was doing. That's not what happened. I was instead told that if I couldn't stop "pacing around all day" then I would be punished by being transferred to another department within a few weeks. Have you ever seen that movie "Joker" starring Joaquin Phoenix? At one point, he says something like "The worst part about having a mental illness is that everyone expects you to behave as if you DON'T have a mental illness." or something like that. That's exactly what this manager's mentality was. He was trying to force me to act "Normal" by his standards. Needless to say, I couldn't stop pacing & stepping on the cracks BECAUSE THAT'S NOT A THING I CAN DO... so I was transferred to the department that "washed the carts" - this was during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic & during this era, Safeway had their employees hand clean every individual cart that came in. Management declared that my OCD was actually due to laziness & low effort. The cart washing area wasn't a good fit for me & a very real part of that was because of my OCD too. I would always wash the carts with overly-meticulous detail & as a result of this fact, I wasn't a very fast cart washer. At any given moment, there were many dozens of carts that needed to be washed & only maybe 3 that were ready for customers to actually use. Sometimes, there wasn't even one. I was so bad at keeping up with the high demand of carts that customers needed. I begged management to send me back to the meat department, but they didn't budge. I was told repeatedly that if I worked hard enough, I would be sent back to the meat department. I worked at this Safeway for a total of 3 months, two of which were spent washing carts. On my final day of work, when I had JUST clocked in, I was called over that loudspeaker they have there & told to come to the office. I was told that I was being fired, and that they would give me my final check now. I asked why they were doing this & was told "Welp, we did an employee evaluation & you're just the worst employee here." I told them that I always tried my best & that they were ungrateful & were, in fact, losing a terrific employee no matter what they thought. Then I took the money they gave me & went home. In hindsight, what I should have done was talk to the HR department located at another store or contacted a lawyer or something. Instead, I convinced myself that I had no case & that I didn't want to work there anyway. It's been several years & I haven't been to this Safeway since. I try really hard not to hold grudges, I swear, but I somehow doubt that management understands that the way they treated me was wrong. I was fired for having OCD, something I can't control no matter how hard I try. I hope you'll consider shopping for groceries somewhere else. Management here has a problem with people with mental illness, they've made that very clear. read more
