I work in an office building on SE Lake Rd and frequent this Safeway. All of the prior reviews are correct, should you come here expect to wait in line for check out. One thing I want to add is the baristas at the Starbucks kiosk ALWAYS HAVE ATTITUDE. For example, they had a sign (which I will add a photo of) reading: Enjoy a grande handcrafted beverage on us. With the purchase of any breakfast sandwich or Sous Vide egg bites. Excludes bakery pastry items. I order a grande iced black tea and bacon egg bites, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT EGG BITES FOR FREE you can't get it with tea it has to be espresso.. And I'm like no the sign says handcrafted beverage.. And they're like your tea is iced it only works for hot drinks.. And I'm like so why does your menu say handcrafted ICED tea

    Annoying plastic bags.

Good Safeway! People were helpful and kind. It's pretty typical but doesn't lock bathrooms, is very clean, and service is always good here.

Yes, the cleanliness is because it's new, but the spaciousness is due to the design. Props for that. Well stocked with all the typical Trader Joe's items, as stores are pretty universal. Trader's isn't we here I do all my shopping, but when I'm looking for cheese, crackers and charcuterie items, this is where I go. I also love their affordable bagged salads, sugar snap peas, Persian cucumbers, small curd cottage cheese, and eggs - all affordable weekly purchases. Can always find decent wine at affordable prices, too. When they are offering tastings, I always give them a try and discover something new. And of course the 99 cent greeting cards are a steal! Plus the fresh flowers and plant section not to be missed. currently they have bromeliads which have one single bright orange, red or yellow bloom that lasts for months. I have about a half dozen! While I don't live in this area, when I go to have my car serviced or I'm visiting friends in Oregon City, my car automatically turns into the parking lot. Did I mention the easy ample parking?

The variety of items was also impressive. Of course they have all the snacks, chips, cookies and pantry items, but they had lots of healthy frozen meals - the bowls that have brown rice, protein and veggies - for several dollars less than a grocery store. The best find was 32 oz jars of Rao's Marinara sauce for $7.99. Costco sells for $8.99 but the jars are 28 Oz and Safeway, QFC and others sell the 24 Oz jars for 8.99. Typically I make my own sauce but in a pinch, I use jar. I've tried them all and the best, the most like homemade is Rao's. With a short ingredient list of tomatoes, onions, olive oil and basil, it's also healthy. No added sugars or preservatives. I may go back just to pick up a few more jars as stock does rotate and I'm not sure this will be there for long. When I'm at Bargain Market, it's not for my regular shopping. It's more about wandering the aisles, looking for, well, bargains, and buying a bunch of random items! Yesterday I bought Betty Crocker Brownie mix for a small 8x8 square pan, 2 for $1.00; Pop-it chips, $1.49; bagged baby greens, $1.99; Swanson low sodium chicken broth, $1.99 buy 2 get one free; and a Healthy Choice chicken and broccoli bowl, $3.99. They have a vast selection of wine and you truly can find really good deals. Same with the cheese but do read for expiration dates. Usually on the cheese they are near expiration and cheese doesn't last long past those dates. Of course I didn't get a basket! An employee evidently saw me with my arms full and without even asking, went and got me a basket. The checkout was fine. Cashier wasn't openly friendly but I don't care about those things. Presenting the receipt with the explanation that I had been overcharged and requested a refund. The cashier was uncertain on how to proceed and called for the manager. The manager, a regrettable sort came in hot and challenged my claim I was due a refund. I explained to her that the charge in question involved a product sold as a pack of four for $0.99 but was charged $0.99 each resulting in a nearly twenty dollar overcharge. Said manager aggressively challenged my claim so I suggested we go take a look at the shelf tag as evidence of my claim. Off she sprang with me in tow loudly commenting on my claim, expressing that I'm wrong. Once we examine the shelf tag, she reads it loudly and claims that the tag is describing a four-pack with each unit in the pack sold as a separate piece. I countered her claim telling her that the way the tag is read by myself and every previous store employee that it is a pack of four for $0.99. Nowhere is it written as $0.99 each. Loudly she storms off declaring that she's not going to argue with me and making comments akin to the customer is always right. Such an ugly display of management I'm shocked by her behavior realizing no matter what I offer as an explanation she's not going to hear it. We arrive back at the cash register where she loudly advises her clerk to give me my refund. I think she said, "Give him what he wants." By this time I'm tired of her aggressive and uncouth manner that I express my dissatisfaction with her treatment which infuriates her further. Quite the role model. I ask for her name and in turn she says she doesn't have to give it to me. I'm beside myself in regret for having to deal with this person and her disrespectful manner. The issue is that I was overcharged and asked for a refund of the difference. My request was couched pleasantly. By the end of this reprehensible encounter I'm certain I let a choice expletive slip for my mouth. I'm not accustom to such rude management and felt provoked because of this woman's relentless verbal assault. The cashier struggled to do the arithmetic and clearly was upset by the corrosive moment. As she handed me the change due, I remarked that I simply came in for a refund. I wasn't angry that a mistake was made. The young guy who made the sale was standing at the next register but remained mute. I sked the cashier for names, she politely gave them to me and I left the store. I returned a day or two later to meet with the new owner, Robb. As I introduced myself I sensed Rob was operating on a hidden agenda, rushing me along as I attempted to share my displeasure with the treatment received in his store. I asked for an apology and got this instead. Robb advised me that there are two sides to every story. I asked him which side was he referring to and he told that his employees both complained that I used foul language. I admitted that regrettably I let an expletive slip but that was after his manager mistreated me and the refund request. Nope. Rob wasn't having it. I cussed. "Get out of my store" he declared realizing we were standing near customers making their purchases. He lowered his voice a bit as I stared at him in total disbelief. Robb wasn't going to have his employees disrespected by an irritated customer despite the employees instigating conflict when no conflict was necessary. I laughed and called him an asshole, then left the store. After years of shopping at this location this new owner turns out to be a real gem of leader. Both he and his manager used the same phrase- "This conversation is over." The abrupt, rude posture seems consistent with today's society and its disregard for civility. In the absence of humility it is incumbent on me to resolve the matter through self-examination and personal adjustment which will come easy as my options of where I will spend my money are plenty. Good luck, Robb.

Lots of people complained that WF is expensive, but it depends on what you are buying. Their 365 brand sells local products and is very affordable and the items are fantastic. Some that I particularly like are the instant coffee, great for my afternoon iced coffee drink; their pasta is wonderful and they offer many shapes, not just the norms, the cavatelli being one of my favorites; tortilla chips, black beans, Thai Curry cashews, veggie straws - just to name a few. Like all WFs, they have an exceptional prepared food area with lots of delicious mains and fixings. The one thing I'm not a fan of is the roasted chicken. I've bought dozens and they are always dry. Not sure what's up with that because everything else is really good. Bakery section has tempting treats, lots of grainy breads and even gluten free options. The cheese area is fantastic, always something new to try. Because of the prices, I can't afford to shop here for my everyday items, but I come when I want high quality meat, cheese, and produce. And my favorite 365 items. When items are on sale, Prime users get additional discounts, sometimes as high as 20 or 30% off. Great time to stock up on pantry items.
