I come here pretty often like at least once a week. I'll list the pros and cons and try to be as informative as a customer. Pros- -One of the largest indoor range at max 100 yards for rifle and 25 yards for pistol. -Friendly Knowledgeable sales staff that can help you answer any questions regarding firearms. Not to mention everyone there is passionate about the 2A. -The range facility is pretty modern and clean. -Good selection of rental guns and ammo to purchase. -You can get your CHP class requirements along with other qualifications here. -This store is able to accept class 3 NFA transfers. So you can pick up your SBRs and Suppressors here. Along with doing all of the necessary paperwork. Cons- -The prices for services such as FFL transfers and range use is slightly more compared to others. Also a lot of items such as ammo and some guns you can definitely get cheaper elsewhere. -Gunsmithing services wait times regardless of work will take about 4-8+ weeks. Unless you absolutely need an expert I encourage you to attempt the job yourself. If you end up blowing up your firearm you'll need a professional regardless. -Gun selection in store for purchase can seem limited. The online store has more selection but I'd encourage you to come in or call before buying it online to verify stock. -Communication can definitely be better when it comes to informing customer about their transfers or any issue regarding appointments. Overall it's a decent place for firearm related activities. You really don't have much options though. But just know that this place can be busy therefore if you come at such time it may feel you're being neglected. read more

Safeside has all your shooting needs and very knowledgeable staff. Now, I can tell you of course there are other places to shoot (namely if you prefer to shoot outdoors - I do when weather permits) But the rangemasters at Safeside have always been helpful and willing to offer tips for successful shooting w.out coming off as know it alls or gun snobs. To that point, I've been shooting since I was a child and know there's always a new trick or two to learn so be open minded. I mainly added thia part to remind some of the posts complaining about "less than super prompt" service. I can only surmise that many of those folks are the fashionably new gun owners...hey, welcome to the club, but understand firearms, firearms training & safety are NOT fast food nor are they one size fits all. Sometimes a purchase, upgrade or repair to your arms takes some troubleshooting and conversing. If it pains you to wait for 10 minutes while 2 gun enthusiasts discuss a new upgrade, then get over it....or go get ripped off at a pawn shop where bobody cares abt your wallet or your safety. read more

I have not been able to use the range yet, however, hopefully I will find time to soon. That being said, the two times I have been in there the staff has been incredibly friendly. Today a gentleman spent over an hour patiently walking me through suppressors so I could learn about them as I decide what I want to do. I really wish I could remember his name. He would even say "if I am telling you something you know please let me know." Very knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone there was very friendly. Wonderful business. read more

Living in Lynchburg, we recently lost our SafeSide and Lynchburg Arms leaving us with no indoor ranges. My wife and I came to the Roanoke location to shoot and choose an appropriate firearm for my wife, who's new to the sport. Upon arriving, the young lady was Friendly, polite and VERY HELPFUL. After finding the appropriate rentals, our Range Official went above and beyond in helping my wife and myself. Overall, a WONDERFUL experience from start to finish. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility. The drive is close to an hour away, but I'm sure we well be back regularly. Thank you for making this trip worth the effort. Waited for 15 minutes watching the only employee go rental gun shopping with a customer. Painful. Ended up leaving after realizing the employee enjoyed hearing his voice as much as the renters wanted to talk about every gun in the case. Terrible experience. Took my three college sons to the range in Lynchburg. We had a great time. We went mid-afternoon in the middle of the week and had the range to ourselves for almost an hour. We rented two .22 pistols. The Sig was excellent but the Ruger Mark IV jammed constantly. My guess is that the gun needed cleaning. The range attendant was very patient and took care of us each time it happened. This is also a great place to try out a few guns before making a purchase decision. The best range I've ever experienced to date. As I walked in the door I was greeted and pointed in the right direction to go to the pistol range. You take a quick little safety class by watching a video to make sure you know the safety rules. There is both pistol and a 101 yard rifle range! Prices are great. If you don't own any guns, no worries they have a huge selection of guns to rent. Looking to buy a gun they have any thing you could think of and a great staff that is educated on the guns. read more

I went there and was looking for a lower for an AR15 to build into a rifle in 7.62x39. was told by one staff member that I would need a .308 AR10 sized reciever. After explaining that I was going to build I was still told I did not need the reciever I wanted to buy. I have used the gunsmith they have there, I would not recommend him unless you want to wait for 3-4 months to get a simple hour long job done. I am glad I did not sign up for their shooting range, it was supposed to be open in August 2016, when I looked last, January 2017 it was still not open. Never been to safe side before and recently moved a few miles from them so i decided to call in to ask if they offered concealed carry permit classes and if they carried holsters for a few of my pistils. The person that picked up the phone was very rude from the start. I asked if thy offered Concealed carry classes and I was told Tuesday, then i asked if there was any more info i could have, she asked me "Like What?" I asked what time they took place she told me 5:30, I asked what the price was , she reluctenly told me $40, I asked how long they were....it was like pulling teeth. I understand they probably get this question several times a week but this is your job, no need to talk to the customers as if they should know all these answers already.I also understand there is a thing called google but it was just faster and easier to call and speak to someone since i had a few diff questions and needed to see if they had certain items in stock. I didn't get the opportunity to ask about the holsters, i guess they were very busy because i was hung up on once i asked about the length of the class, i assume that was the final straw. Ive heard some good things and for all i know they could have a great selection, staff, and range; but unfortunately ill never find out because first impressions are everything when im giving you my money and ill never give them my business. Very nice, well kept range although kind of on the pricier side. The gentleman working the range this evening was extremely helpful and taught myself and even my veteran boyfriend a lot. I'm not sure exactly how pricing works, it's not what's listed in the shop. We've been twice and were charged two different prices. The first time was cheaper and we both rented ear and eye wear, second time was $7 more and we brought our own gear. The young blonde woman working the desk when we left was extremely rude and dismissive. We were curious about the pricing due to the difference in cost and she bluntly said "the cost has never changed" while bobbing her head and sat there silently while we tried to calculate it just so we know what to expect each visit. They have it listed as $5 per rental so it just didn't make sense but we didn't bother asking after she set the tone for the conversation. We plan to continue going, we really enjoy the range and most of the staff- this was our first encounter there that negatively impacted their business for us. read more

SafeSide Tactical is simply phenomenal. The establishment is clean, entirely stocked, and truly a gem of a place. The staff are professional, great to work with, and always ready to help with any questions. Mitchell and Matthew, brothers and co-owners, are excellent. My wife and I came to the store not knowing anything about firearms or shooting. Mitchell spent over 2 hours with us - teaching us about the weapons, taking his time in answering our many questions, and treated us like we were long-time customers. So not sure where to start on this one... This LGS has a very nice indoor range. However, in my experience it is also very unsafe at times depending on the RSO. In the pistol range I have experienced A young brunette woman (the RSO) solely focused on her phone while the range was full. The group of people next to me had a 9 mm Beretta 92 FS and they were trying to shoot 380 out of it. I had to be the one to go over and explain to them that they had the wrong type of ammunition. The RSO never even tried to help them, or wasn't paying enough attention to see the problem. Later, one of the woman in the group was reloading her handgun and had her finger on the trigger, she inserted a magazine and dropped the slide. As she did she must have a pull the trigger and she fired a round horizontally across the range. Again, the RSO was on her phone and did not notice. I had to be the one to notify the RSO. Another trip to the pistol range resulted in a similar experience. The same young woman was the RSO at the time. There were some people in the bay next to me renting some handguns. I witnessed them shoot the floor on almost every single shot for about three magazines. I again had to be the one to talk to the shooters and notify the RSO (this RSO also carries a revolver in a Walmart gun mate case. Not the look safe side "tactical" should be going for). On a different trip I also witnessed the same thing on the rifle range. A group of two men were firing AR 15's and AR pistols (I have no problem with these weapons just an observation). They were in the last bay of against the right wall. They were firing into the floor and the wall on every other shot. At the end of the range you could see smoke and debris from the rounds striking the concrete. The RSO again was on his phone. This time a middle aged bearded man. These events have happened over about a 2 1/2 year period. But one of them happened recently and that is the reason for this review. I hope Safe Side sees this review and trains their RSO's accordingly. When you fill out the waiver form it is specifically states that no cell phones are supposed to be used while on the range. So I do not understand why the RSO's are allowed to use their's and scroll on Facebook while the range is hot. Also, their prices are about 5 to 15% more than any other gun shop in the area for new firearms. The only reason I am giving them two stars instead of one (honestly should give them 1 because safety is paramount) is because the indoor range is very nice and is not extremely expensive, however their ammo is. Another complaint I have with Safe Side is their customer service at the range. I have stood in line for 10 to 15 minutes while one or two employees are standing around not doing anything, "cleaning guns", chit chatting with friends, or just plain ignoring me, while one girl has to check in/out a line of 10-15 people. I wish I could give Safe Side a five star review, but after witnessing these safety violations I cannot do that. If Safe Side can fix their RSO's, customer service and become more competitive in their pricing this gun shop could receive a 100 out of 5 stars. read more

Took my Vp9 in to have a set of sights installed and the armourer did a poor job and damaged my new sights. My complaint is he tried to pass his shoddy job off as satisfactory. While they did replace the sights and apologize it took 2 weeks to get my gun back, no one called to tell me it was ready and they lost most of the packaging and extra rods that came with the sights. The owner was in the store and never came out and spoke with me about the situation. The truth is they would never have admitted to or fixed the sights unless I had complained. I paid what they asked and they failed to give what they promised. While I'm sorry is nice, it doesn't negate the fact that they tried to pass off a shoddy job. I am a regular user of the range. I have found it to be clean and easily assessable for my lunch hour practice shoots. I have read the previous reviews about SafeSide and I certainly agree that the showroom side leaves a lot to be desired. If your firearms knowledge is limited I suggest that you go somewhere else to be educated before you buy. The sales personnel knowledge is very limited on the subject of firearms. Do your homework first, know what you are looking for before you head to SafeSide Tactical to make your purchase. Went to their Range today for the first time. (Got to use a Gift Card that I received at Christmas) A beautiful, clean facility. The Staff were all extremely courteous and helpful. It was a bit busy so we had to wait (1:30 on a rainy Saturday afternoon) for about 30 minutes, but that was plenty of time to complete the mandatory safety course for first timers. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more
