I have had a really great experience working with Matt the senior service manager at Westport Marina. I have found Matt to be honest, reliable, dependable, and more than fair with me. Matt explained the repair needed for my boat and presented me with a detailed estimate which was reasonable for the work needed and then had his very capable master service technician complete the work under budget! WOW, who does that? The service technician "Chase" did a really great job with attention to detail! In addition to that Matt and Chase both took me out on the boat for a shake down cruise, a sea trial if you will and put the boat through it's paces to demonstrate the work done! I did not set up our resy, as I was a guest on this voyage. We arrived after the storm passed and we boarded Tan Lines. It's easy to bring your items to your boat in the wheelbarrow provided. I forgot to give this place its due kudos from our recent pontoon rental. We were gifted a weekday rental from a dear work friend last month. Though this place has changed names to Safe Harbor Westport, I believe the positive reviews are still accurate. The office staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The boat dock workers are more than helpful. The Pontoons are very nice. Although we didn't have to pay for our rental, I believe the prices are very reasonable for a nice day out with friends. First let me start by apologizing that I forgot to check in, between the excitement and trying to make sure we were checked in properly and my friends found the place it completely slipped my mind. But trust and believe my review will make up for it, totally worth the READ! Before renting the boat I did a LOT of research to make sure I found the best boat, company, and location with the best pricing. I must say the WESTPORT MARINA IS IT! A lot of places were charging at $500.00 security deposit and then you also had to pay the $450-$500 for the boat rental. That was insane in my opinion and this was my first time renting a boat, but I knew that was crazy lol. So as a Yelper I researched, googled and read reviews. Then I even reached out to other reviewers to get their personal opinion about the experience. After all, was said and done Westport Marina was my choice and I'm SOOOO Thankful I went with this Westport Marnia! You'll Find out WHY below... Arrival When I arrived we parked in the parking lot across from the building. The marina lot was full, as I was walking up I received a phone call from Westport asking if we were still joining them lol. I was told when I made the reservation that we could arrive at any time. So I planned for 1:00 pm, although my reservation was from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. The check-in host was so nice and wanted to make sure we understood all the information we needed to fill out and sign beforehand. She double checked that we watched the safety video, asked if the driver had experience driving pontoon boats {which he did}, and also provided all of our passengers with a life vest that needed it. She said, "Now y'all go and have yourself a GREAT time and be safe!" and we responded, Yes Ma'am! Yes were Southern! Boat Walkthrough My friend Ben drove the boat so he had to complete the walkthrough of everything with the marina guy. Making sure that everything was working, and any previous damage to the boat was not our responsibility. I also videoed this process as well just in case, I recommend renters doing this too. A previous reviewer that I reached out to suggested I do this so just in case. But everything checked out perfectly and Ben was ready to take us on the water. Our Boat - Premium Pontoon 2018 I love that Westport Marina provides BRAND NEW BOATS every year. This shows that they put their customers and safety FIRST, and overall want to provide you with the best of the best while you're enjoying your day on the lake. The boat had no issues at all while we were cruising. The ride was smooth and fast, and we comfortably were able to fit 10 people on the boat. I had 5 guys and 5 girls, all average side and we had plenty of space also for our coolers, tube, and floaties as well. Staff As we returned the boat, the staff looked over everything and provided the fuel charger. We had no damages to the boat and as I went to pay for the fuel, the staff started singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me! I litup light a christmas tree! It was the sweetest thing and everyone that was docking on the marina chimed in... Thank you Westport Marina for making me and my friends feel so welcomed and loved! Some friends and I rented a boat for our friend birthday. We were able to rent a boat for 4 hours and were able to connect our music to the boat and bring food and drinks on the boat. We were able to drive the boat ourselves. When we went it was a chilly day in October but it was still a nice vibe. The staff verbally informed us on how to drive the boat and how to connect our Bluetooth. He was so nice and friendly he also told us to pin the location on our phone so we know how to get back to the dock. This was helpful bc once we went out into the water everything started to look the same. That was a very helpful tip. We enjoyed our time and we will be returning. read more

Visit date 9/29/2018 I rented a boat for a day. BOAT: The was very clean and really nice!! Loved the boat and there was a lot of room! We had 10 ppl, cooler, a bin with food and fishing rods so plenty of room. We enjoyed our time on the lake very relaxing. The experience with renting and getting on the boat was the problem. THE EXPERIENCE: We was suppose to be on the boat at 9:30 AM we did not leave out (on the water) until about 10:15 AM. We seen someone at the dock and she told us to check in at the office. So we walked to the office and it was closed. Then as we walking down we seen another employee and ask her where to check in, she also said the front office but it was locked and closed. The boat was supposed to have Bluetooth but the employee was unable to explain how to work it and she was not for sure how to set it up. And also we did not get a good teaching on how operate the boat( this was our first time driving a boat). It was a LOT of confusion just to check in. I made a $50 deposit. But they charged my husband card it's no deposit was made. Then having to refund the money back and recharge due to them not taking off the $50 (need to make sure we go that refund back). Maybe next time it will be better. read more

For starters, I must admit that I never been fishing before, let alone on an artificial lake. I have been in two or three boats, but usually just to go clubbing in Long Island to get in for free at venues with docks. However, I am glad that we went with this company as my introduction. We went with the Monterey 194. The staff was really cool and the person who set us up knew how to roll with the punches (since all five of us on board the boat are from Brooklyn). He even told us the laws and the "laws" regarding what we could and could not do. Unfortunately, we got caught up in a terrible, freezing storm for about 80% of the six hours we spent on Lake Norman. Despite that, I found it to be a great team building event. I really think more folks should get out and do more stuff like this! read more

Dock staff and Office staff were always professional. One issue early in our time there with damage, but was taken care of by marina. Do make sure you read the contract, if you leave early NO pro rated refunds (unless you sell your boat to someone that rents your spot). Once you leave they cancel the contract and fill your spot with a new tenant, so effectively making extra margin on anyone that leaves early. read more

Called a couple of boat rental places around the lake but they all were unwilling to rent to a 24 year old due to "insurance purposes." They kept telling me to call other places but then to call back if I couldn't find anything and they'd try to work something out... Which I felt was obscure...were there insurance issues or not?!? Most wanted half the payment up front + $500 deposit + other hoops to jump through. Called Westport and it couldn't have been easier. They had no problem with my age, required no deposit, and I had a boat reserved in about 3 minutes on the phone for me and 12 friends. Got there and everything was ready to go and the staff was friendly. I had never driven a boat for more than a minute but they did a great job of making me feel like it didn't matter and that I'd get by fine. Also didn't overkill all the rules and were just super relaxed overall. Some of these places make it seem like you're renting a Ferrari but Westport was very down to earth about the whole thing. Got back to the dock and they helped me park by the gas tanks, unload some stuff and filled it up. Paid the gas bill and was on my way. read more

Boat rental is a breeze and they are easy to deal with for logistics. Easier to give them a call to find out what they have available and how much it is going to cost. Their prices are a touch higher than some marinas for renting but not far off. We rented a Premium pontoon for a weekend day. They hold your credit card number for cancellation, but don't required an up front payment which is nice. They are fairly easy to get to from Charlotte as well. A straight shot up with fairly easy traffic. On a minor note, I thought they should include the stereo input cord. Luckily we brought a Bose Bluetooth speaker to play music from our phones, otherwise the boat did pick up FM radio to play through the boat speakers. read more

We have had our boat at Westport on and off for several years. Shannon Angel, who works in the office is always so helpful and quick to respond. They are fairly quick in loading your boats on the weekends. Their service department does a very nice job but be sure to ask for prices in advance. They also have pontoon boats as rentals. Additionally the have a snack shack with chips, ice, etc for sale. Their gas pumps have 89 octane fuel. read more

Muskrats ate through the wires of our pontoon and after a lot of research, contacted Westport Marina. They towed the pontoon and in less than a week brought it back. We were called twice to give us firstly the cost of repair, and secondly an update as to how long it would take. The service here is just above and beyond the norm. After going out on the boat twice, it simply wouldn't start. They came immediately and brought it back to their shop and fixed a loose wire at no charge and would not even collect for the transport. Very well organized and very clean equipment. The staff a the docks kept it very professional and seemed to enjoy their jobs and work auta. My only complaint, (And complaint of other Customers ) was the lady at the check out office had a dog that stood by the door, and she copped and attitude with several customers about letting the dog out. I ended up having to chase the dog into the parking lot to catch the little friggin rat dog that growled at me as I carried it back. Not even a thank-you. Excellent Staff On Sunday this weekend I pulled into Westport Marina for gas. Kyle was very helpful getting my pontoon positioned for the fill up. Helped tie off the boat and assisted with the fill up. Took care of a few odds and ends with the boat, and at the end of the day was a standout. Great people to deal with. Very helpful and truly interested in making sure you enjoy Lake Norman. We checked a few boat rental places using websites and phone calls. Westport actually called back unlike many other marinas. They had a variety of boats: not just JetSkis and pontoons. We rented a center console. It handled great and came with maps, life jackets, etc. everything we needed. We had agreed to rent the boat for five days but when we got down to the area, our plans changed and we only needed four days. Instead of saying "tough luck", they suggested that they would try to rent the boat out for the day and said if they were able to, they wouldn't charge us for that day. When we arrived the next day, sure enough, the extra day was off our contract. They are honest and, as I said earlier, they try to make sure you enjoy the Lake. The marina is easy to find and the boats are in great condition. Have fun! read more

My family rented a pontoon here the first of this month and we had a good time. The marina was easy to find and the reservation process was pretty easy. Most of the employees were pleasant to deal with as well. When we arrived they were having wi-fi issues so we had a bit of difficulty during the process of trying to pay with our credit cards. Not a big deal, they wrote down our credit card information, and let us go ahead and take the boat out on the lake while they waited for the internet to come back up. The boat we took out was clean, though it didn't appear to be very new. We've been on a lot of nicer pontoon boats. They had a snack bar as well but we were unable to use it also due to the internet issues, since they had no way to take payment. Overall, we had a nice day and this marina was a bit closer to our home in Ballantyne than other marinas. It was not until the next morning that I realized they had made a mistake when charging us for the rental. We used one card when paying the $50 deposit while making the reservation and wanted to use another to pay for the remaining balance. I realized the next morning that BOTH cards had been charged so it appeared we had paid double. No one alerted us of this prior to us leaving so this was quite a shock. I called and was informed they had refunded one of the charges which was all well and good, the money was soon back in the account after about a day however this unauthorized charge resulted in an overdraft fee as we were not prepared for that particular card to be charged the $250. They refused to do anything about this, no credit for a future rental or anything and for this reason we will not return and will advise our friends and family to go elsewhere. read more

They were lifesavers today! Picked up a new (used) boat on the way home to our slip we ran out of fuel. Discovered the fuel gauge did not work! Westport was closest... gave them a call and said "Help!". In no time flat they arrived with fuel and for a VERY reasonable fee. Got back to their dock, gassed up, got a couple of friendly tips about the lake and we were on our way. Jamie, the marina manager, saved us on our very first day on Lake Norman. The staff at Westport Marina have been a pleasure to deal with. I bought a Cobalt 262 off a customer of theirs this summer and he kept the boat at Westport. Since the boat had been at Westport the majority of its lifetime, I decided to continue to keep the boat there as well. However, the previous owner didn't do the suggested maintenance on the Cobalt and I had some serious issues with it from the very beginning. Their service department were a delight to work with, under the terrible circumstances. They answered all my emails, responded back to my voicemails very quickly and saved the day. My boat is like brand spanking new again thanks to them. That being said, if you are thinking of buying a boat and keeping it at a full service marina on Lake Norman, I'd advise you to bring it to Westport. These guys strive to be 1st class. The dockhands are very nice and helpful. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place and the people that work there. I'd never even consider storing my boat elsewhere. read more
