I repeatedly felt that my symptoms were not genuinely listened to or taken seriously. On multiple occasions, rather than addressing my endocrine-related concerns, I was referred out to other specialties--even though I am otherwise healthy, see my primary care physician regularly for annual physicals, and take only thyroid medication. I sought an endocrinologist specifically to have my thyroid and related symptoms appropriately evaluated and managed. My biggest concern occurred when my medication was being adjusted. I specifically asked to increase my dose because I was experiencing symptoms; I did not ask to be placed on the maximum dose based on my weight. Despite that, I was prescribed the highest weight-based dosage. When handing me the prescription, the physician remarked, "As long as you know you're at risk for atrial fibrillation," accompanied by what I perceived as a smirk. I found the comment and manner in which it was delivered extremely inappropriate and condescending, particularly after I had expressed concerns about my symptoms and medication. Patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions regarding their own care. I did not feel that way during my visits with this physician. If you are considering this practice, I would encourage you to research the physicians carefully before your first appointment. Since transferring to another physician within the practice is apparently not an option, choosing the right provider from the beginning is particularly important. Overall, this has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I have had with a physician.

I felt like a human being with dignity when dealing with them, as opposed to feeling like I am caught in the cogs of a machine that doesn't care about me as a human being. For the 1st visit I had an on-site appointment and even though she was talking 10 mph I felt very informed. I left that 1st appointment very satisfied impressed with how much information she wrote tor me. After the appointment I called up my brother, who is also a doctor (a gastroenterologist), and he was even impressed with how detailed and thorough she was in the notes she gave me. After she got my blood test results from Labcorp she immediately followed up with me and told me what I should be doing to control my sugar and what time I should be eating every meal to control my thyroid function in my body. For my 2nd and 3rd appointments I had virtual visitdms and I was impressed with that call as well, even though we had a bad connection. She called me back immediately, apologized for the dropped call, even though it was not her fault, and we continued our conversation. She followed up that call with my labcorp results again, advised me on what I should be doing to correct my sugars even further and told me the prescription she was calling in. She even recommended natural solutions to my problems when I told her I did not like taking more medicine and then she answered all the rest of my questions. For the 3rd appointment, she even called me from her car when she found out that the nurse practitioner that was filling in for her was behind on her calls. Now that is a great doctor.
