My husband found this shop a few miles from our house when he made a wrong turn and, after seeing…read morethe old signs displayed outside, knew I would love it. Sure enough, the shop is straight out of American Pickers, full of rust and patina--everything lovingly used. I had been desperately searching for a dark wooden cabinet with glass doors for the six months I've lived in Fayetteville, browsing craigslist every day and flea marketing on the weekends. I found one within 10 seconds of walking in the door of Back-N-The Day. For $40! I was ecstatic. The owner, who was friendly from the moment we walked through the door, gave me a good deal on a porcelain pitcher that I bought along with it by taking $5 off both items, and he helped us carry the cabinet to our car, even measuring to make sure it would fit for us. The shop houses stacks of furniture, old Pepsi and Coke machines and paraphernalia, gasoline collectibles, vintage art and frames, old tools and cookware, and bits of everything imaginable. It's quite a maze, and really invites those in search of a discovery.

I was so impressed by the sample the host offered us I bought my own bottle to make smoothies with at home. The brain freeze while drinking this is real, though. + Five pepper chili. The best chili salsa thing I've ever had ever. I am usually crying and dry heaving by the third bite but it's the kind of spicy that makes you come back for more. It goes well on everything, mostly because it tastes good on its own. I deal well with spicy, so others may be more cautious. + The soaps here smell awesome and retains its smell until the last itty bitty bit. My favorites are the almond and cucumber melon. Then I spent enough money and got to choose from a goodie basket. I chose to get the bear jam. The above three things are what I would be coming back for!

For years after, I neglected checking out the antique store here now. This one is expansive and observes the vendor booth set-up so common for antique stores these days. The selection is mostly what I'll call "home goods". Furniture, kitchen items, decor, lots of framed paintings and pictures, dishes, displays, wall hangings. Of course there's a large assortment checking almost every box, but the above are the ones that stood out most to me. I wasn't blown away by the quality of most items in here nor the selection. This store didn't appeal to me quite as much as others nearby. Prices definitely varied, but seemed mostly reasonable. I will definitely pay another visit in the future.

When I say I despise Plato's Closet as a company, I genuinely mean it. I wasn't even planning to…read moreleave a review, but after attempting twice to sell clothes and being told both times they were "at full capacity," I've completely lost interest in ever coming back. The first time was around 4 PM, and the second was before 2 PM. Even after being told to come at 10 AM instead, I have no desire to make a third trip just to get lowballed and have them mark them up in a mysterious price. If you've ever tried selling to Plato's Closet before, you already know this is the infamous reality. They have one of the worst business models I've experienced for a resale store, and it's frustrating that nearly every location seems to provide the exact same disappointing experience. The employees often come across as snobby, like they work on commission at a luxury department store and see themselves as fashion authorities. Mind you, I brought in genuinely good pieces that people in Fayetteville would absolutely buy. I had Coach bags, Marc Jacobs, Anthropologie, Lululemon, and more. So for them to advertise that they buy clothes all day, only for the rules and capacity to keep change depending on the day or time, is ridiculous. They lost out, not me. If I could leave 0 stars for every Plato's Closet location, I would. Nothing would convince me to return. I only decided to swallow my pride this time because I'm in town trying to sell my remaining clothes before donating them. I don't have personal ill will toward the employees themselves, but honestly, they deserve better than working under such a poorly run system. Seeing the "This Store Is For Sale" sign out front was honestly the cherry on top. No one should consider investing in this company unless they genuinely plan to change its practices and policies, because the current system clearly does not work.
