I had a solid experience with John. He was very professional, had a lot of expertise and I felt supported throughout my case--I mean, he has 40+ years of experience.
My case was incredibly difficult, and at times, I found it challenging not to treat John as a therapist because he was handling so many personal details. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I had to remind myself that John was my attorney, not my father, therapist, or best friend. Despite this, John was incredibly compassionate and provided me with encouraging pep talks that helped me through some really tough moments. He also did not sugarcoat the possible outcomes of my case, which was hard, but necessary when you're dealing with the unpredictability of the justice system.
John was as accessible and responsive, as an attorney can be. When I was in a panic and needing to talk to him, his paralegal (who is the sweetest) was the one who would often calm me down. It could be really hard when you're calling in a panic about something, and you think talking to your attorney is the was to go, but in time I realized I was treating him like a therapist. When John can talk to you, he will but he had a gazillion other clients he had to attend to, so I would get forwarded to his voicemail, BUT he would call me back. I definitely DIDN'T feel abandoned because there were many times when his paralegal would listen to me, console me, and help me come down from my panic attacks.
Although John really tried to make my emotional situation more manageable, eventually had to seek the help of a trauma therapist and psychiatrist to deal with the PTSD from my situation. I eventually got that John had to maintain a certain emotional distance from me because he couldn't take on my emotions, which I was taking personally. I mean, I get it. He'd probably be a wreck if he took on all the emotions of all of his clients.
When I did speak to John, what impressed me was his enthusiasm about my case, his ability to actually listen to what I was saying or trying to say, and then the advice he would give me. John definitely has an energy about him that you can feel when he walks into the room, and you know that you're in good hands. I personally felt he genuinely cared about my case; I wasn't just another number to him, and that man worked tirelessly to achieve the best outcome for me. When he did contact me about updates concerning my case, there was a lot of strategy involved that I didn't fully understand, but I felt taken care of because he understood and was often very excited about what he would discover. I really felt he didn't leave any rock unturned when interviewing people, getting records, fighting the other side, etc.
Hopefully, I won't be a return customer, lol, but if I am, he'll definitely be my first call. I hope you don't have to engage the services of an attorney, but if you do, I really hope you go for John because, in my experience, there are not many attorneys out there who really enjoy their jobs as much as he does.
