Located just outside the airport off coastal road 187 exist many street and beach stands selling all sorts of deep fried seafood treats. Picked this one just because I saw other cars parked in front of the red painted cinder block building. After perusing the fried fare under hot lamps, I decided on alcapurrias de jueye and empanadas de pulpo aka hot dog shaped crab fritters and fried octopus dumplings of sorts. Took these bits to go and stepped about 50 feet to the beach. The crab fritters were just as I remembered, stuffed with plantain, yucca (or a cousin) and plenty of mud crab meat. The octopus empanadas were full of red sauce and tentacle meat. Best of all, it's cheap. If you are hungry off your flight and rented a car, take it to 187 and stop at any stall in piñones - you won't regret it. read more
