I will start by saying that, without Sara's help, my husband and I would likely still be one big mess of sleep deprivation induced despair and sadness. Our little one unfortunately had an extreme aversion to sleeping in his bassinet when we brought him home, which meant that either I or my husband had to be awake at all hours of the day and night to hold him while he slept (an arrangement which was, unsurprisingly, unsustainable).
After learning that such a thing as a night doula existed, we contacted Sara, and she began helping us when our baby was seven weeks old (coming to our home at 10:00pm and leaving at 6:00am). I was nervous at first, but Sara has such a warm and friendly personality and an obvious mastery of all things related to baby slumber that I was quickly put at ease. Also, given how sleep deprived we were, having Sara come in and take over care for our baby for 8 hours during the night was pure bliss. Finally getting some sleep meant that my husband wasn't a zombie at work, and I could actually play with and enjoy my baby during my maternity leave. She also took care of washing the bottles that she used for night feedings and the parts from my breast pump (I would pump once a night).
Sara was kind yet firm with our baby, and one thing that I really appreciated is that she never tried push him beyond what he was ready for. She observed him over a few weeks at first, getting a sense of his personality, needs, and habits, and it wasn't until she was sure that he was ready that she helped nudge him into sleeping through the night with no night feedings. It was a very gradual and deliberate process that was tailored to my son; she knows that there is no "one size fits all" solution for every baby. She also kept us up to date on his progress, and made sure that we were okay with each step before executing.
Another thing that I really appreciated was being able to ask her questions without fear of judgement or seeming stupid. We're first time parents, so we're still figuring everything out, and it was so nice to have a resource like Sara to ask questions regarding anything from napping, to what interview questions to ask prospective nannies for when I go back to work, to "why hasn't he pooped in three days!" She is also super responsive over text, so if I was having a napping crisis, I could reach out to her for words of advice and support.
Lastly (and most importantly), it's been two weeks since our last night with Sara (after working with her for about 2 months), and our baby is still sleeping through the night, and is also napping like a champ. She did a wonderful job both sleep training our baby as well as training my husband and I to help him keep up his good sleeping habits. Hiring Sara was one of the best investments that we've ever made, and I cannot recommend her enough! read more
