This was our fourth visit and is still consistently positive. They are nice and great with children. My 3 year old never complains about coming here. They are efficient, punctual, gentle, thorough, and the list goes on. The facility runs smoothly and is always kept clean. We wish we had a better outcome with our son's dental checkup (completely my fault) but at least we know we are in good hands with his care. Dr. Brian Liu is the best. I wanted to take the time to write something because it is truly remarkable what he has done for my children over the years. We first went to Dr. Liu about 11 years ago when my son needed to undergo dental surgery in a hospital. Such a huge help knowing he was in great hands. Dr. Liu has hospital privileges and is very knowledgeable. He and his staff have been nothing but very helpful, compassionate, and very good at their job - helping my three kids at numerous times over the past decade when situations arose. The technology at the office with the movies up in the ceiling and the excellent full spectrum standing x-rays - are a big help with children, too... along with the toys to choose from on the way out. We went to see Dr. Brian Liu for a 2nd opinion for our kid's teeth issue. Things and services seems fine, and they even have a large selection of SWAGs for your kids to choose from when you leave. However, I am not really happy with the office due to the following reason: 1. Expensive for even looking at an X-ray from other office, they charged you additional $$ because the X-ray is not from them, and it is not cheap ( on top of the office visit fee), I feel the fee might be even more expensive than you took the X-ray in their office. And this additional cost is not previously communicated to you at all. 2. They would try to recommend you do expensive procedure they would recommend you do general anesthetics to your kid with a dedicated physician that charge about 2K/hour. and the physician is their partner. I just wanted to take a moment to add my highest regard for Dr. Liu and his team. My 7 year old son is extremely fearful of going to the dentist, he had a painful and scary tooth extraction as a 5 year old and it really left a mental scar. Dr. Liu's team has been amazing. EVERYONE at his office was so professional and helpful. My son is a very difficult patient and a procedure that should have taken 4 minutes took well over an hour. He was soaked in sweat from fear. He can't help being overwhelmed. I have NEVER had any medical or dental care experience where the team felt so much empathy for my son. Everyone was patient in a tense situation where he was being particularly irrational. They scheduled it late in the day, they took breaks, they helped comfort him. Dr Liu on several occasions came up with little techniques to take his mind off the procedure and let him know what to do. He was AMAZING. I get a little emotional thinking how awesome they were. My kid had been going to dr Liu since she was 4. Everything is fine, until he sold us the Myobraces. My kid has over crowding teeth. He recommend the Myobraces to us couple years ago, told us my kid maybe able to avoid braces in the long term if started Myobraces at an early age. It cost us a few thousands dollars. Any dentist or orthodontist look at my kid's teeth will know there is no way my kid can ever avoid braces. It is so not ethical to sell an expensive product to patient knowing it will never work. Now my kid is seeing an orthodontist having palette expansion and braces. Do not listen to him if he tries to sell you Myobraces!!!! read more

I don't understand why Dr. Liu gets such great reviews. We went here for a couple of visits, and it didn't leave us with a great feeling. First, it was a big production, with choosing a video, choosing a toy, getting a certificate, etc. But we didn't need such a big production. We just needed a warm, caring, competent dentist. Dr. Liu was ok, but we didn't get a warm feeling from him, and neither did our kids. Second, it was extremely pricey. Despite good insurance, we ended up paying a significant amount out of pocket to cover the excess amount over "reasonable and customary" prices. We decided it was worth driving up to Millbrae to see our former pediatric dentist (Nicolas Bronzini), and we are so happy with that decision. It's important to us to have a dentist who truly likes kids, enjoys talking to kids, cares about kids -- and we just didn't get that feeling from Dr. Liu. read more

This review is long overdue for Dr. Liu and his wonderful office staff, especially Angela at the front desk! My three children have been seeing Dr. Liu for many, many years now (oldest just turned 22, next is 18, youngest is 9) and his professionalism and his caring nature are unsurpassed. We live in South San Jose and we make the drive to Palo Alto (~30 miles one way) every 6 months because I don't trust anyone else with my kids! The visit to the dentist is actually an enjoyable one - relaxing, gentle, caring, and respectful. There are plenty of great dentists closer to home, but when you find a dentist that you trust and your children like, you stick with him! A few of the positives - office is always clean, appointments start on time, kids get to pick a movie and watch during their appointment with headphones, parents are welcome to join their children during the appointment, services are explained in detail, a "report card" is provided at the end of the appointment with an evaluation and helpful hints, staff is super friendly and gentle and the list goes on and on... I love that my children are treated as people and not just patients. If you are looking for an A+ dentist, you should definitely try Dr. Liu! read more

I had no problem with the doctor. Dr. Liu is friendly and seems knowledgeable. My trouble was with billing --the staff doesn't seem very knowledgeable about the insurance plans. I double checked whether the dr was on network for my insurance and provided all my insurance info beforehand, but they failed to provide me correct information. They assured me the dr was on network and the checkup would be 100% covered, but only to find out after the check up that the dr was actually NOT on the network (that is, prompted by another inquiry of mine). After they found out that info, they promised me to cover the already-completed check up as a courtesy, but they ended up not honoring it. (I admit I didn't get a written confirmation of that promise; I just believed the conversation with a representative over the phone). So I ended up paying significant portion of the fee myself. And I never received any apologies. Bottom line: You'll have to know YOURSELF all the details of your insurance plan and whether this office is contracted with it, and on what level. It's better not to simply believe what the office says at the time of making appmts; better to check it out yourself. And for any important info over phone conversation, better to get a copy of written (email) confirmation. I'm writing this only to inform future patients. For delta dental, Dr Liu is in premere network but not in PPO network. Checkups should be 100% covered only with dentists in the particular network of your insurance plan. So if you have PPO plans, your checkup won't be covered 100% in this office no matter what the office says before your appmt. read more

Very expensive. A dental exam (no x-ray) and cleansing for a 5-year-old child came out to be $290. Even with insurance (MetLife) I paid $50 out of pocket. For comparison, a dental exam and cleansing at my (adult) dentist cost half of that, and was fully covered by insurance. The service is ok. The special part is the non-dental "treats" such as the airplane-theme decoration, letting the child pick a movie to watch during the cleansing, giving a certificate and toy after the visit. My child likes it. I recommend Dr. Liu if money is not a concern. read more

Dr. Liu and his team are the best! We feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Liu's office. Dr. Liu is the first dentist for both of my sons (ages 3 1/2 and 1) and all of our visits have been exceptional. His staff go out of their way to make sure my sons are comfortable and know what is happening during the appointment. Dr. Liu's office is exceptionally modern and he is up to date on all of the latest developments in dentistry. Additionally, his dental hygienists are outstanding.
