Two S-Bahn tracks here and two U-Bahn tracks, so it's a busy transfer point and of course the Marienplatz at the surface is a busy destination. Easy navigation with escalators, stairs and elevator between the different platform levels, the ticketing concourse and the surface. And of course, lots of entrances/exits to street level which are labeled and there's signage to help you know which is the right exit closest to the strasse you're needing. Several quick grab-and-go restaurants on the ticketing concourse. The station is served by the S1, S2, S3, S4, S6, S7 and S8 S-Bahn lines plus the U3 and U6 underground lines. We transited through here to get to Salzburg and see a few nearby castles while in town for 9 days. It's large…read moreand can be a bit confusing (as any subway/train/hub of travel can be to those who aren't used to it), but once you get the hang of the hallways, stairs and turns, it's easy to navigate. We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.

And lots of signs telling drunk people how to get home. There's a lot more security lately and that's a good thing. Crazy people do crazy things. U-Bahnhof Theresienwiese serves the U4 between Schwanthalerhöhe (toward Westendstraße) and the Munich Hauptbahnhof (toward Arabellapark) and U5 toward Laimer Platz and Neuperlach Süd. This is the main stop for all party goers specially during Oktoberfest, Fruhlingsfest and Winter Tollwood three of the big festivals here not to mention numerous other events that happen here throughout the year.

Anyway, it gets packed - and while I have used Munich trains a lot, I can see that it might be confusing for visitors. There aren't really very clear instructions (though you can get English and other languages on the machines). The train is a wonderful option to get into the city, but I do recommend, if you haven't taken the train in Munich or aren't good at seeking out information alone, to read up first on the 'rules' to make sure you have a very smooth trip.
