Overload a good airport, but like any large city be early and prepare to wait. Arrived from the…read morestates at 930 am and it was very busy to get through customs. There's a pre check line, scan passport , fingerprints and photo. Then on to another line to talk to an actual agent. This took about two hours. Once that's completed you move on to baggage claim. Bags were all lined up and ready to go. Signage and employees were throughout and willing to assist. Lots of food options, sit down or grab and go. Departure was a bit different, left early am, less people but still took about an hour to drop off luggage, go through customs and find gate. Definitely plan ahead and give yourself extra time.

Landed at Munich Airport for our layover on the way to Bologna, and one of the first things I…read morenoticed was how QUIET it was. Like... SUPER quiet. You could literally hear a pin drop. No lie, I started feeling like my little handheld fan was doing too much and messing up the peaceful airport vibe. But listen... I was warm! I couldn't tell if the AC wasn't on, the heat was on, or absolutely NOTHING was on, but I was going through my season and whatever was happening was not helping. Lufthansa has complimentary coffee stations throughout the airport... FREE.99! At first I was like, "Nahhhh," because it's coffee and I still had one more flight. IYKYK. And I am NOT a fan of airplane restrooms. But anyway... this review is about the airport. For the smokers, there are Camel smoking stations available. My husband said they must have some serious ventilation in there, but hey... neither one of us smokes, so there's that. There were plenty of food options and shops throughout the airport, and apparently Rolex is responsible for keeping everybody on time because those clocks were everywhere as we walked through. Security was a breeze. Non-EU passport holders had to pre-register before going through passport control, but the process was seamless and pretty self-explanatory... unless, of course, you happened to get behind someone who didn't quite understand the assignment. ‍ The staff was helpful, and passport control gave us one of the funniest moments of the layover. The agent started asking my husband questions about our trip... where we were going, how many days, the itinerary... and Kerry had NO CLUE. The agent finally looked at him and said something along the lines of, "Let me talk to the chef." We all started laughing. Then he told my husband, "Women are always the boss. It's okay, man... just accept it." He handed ME our passports, looked at me and said, "Take care of him. Have a good day." WE. LOST. IT. That man sized the situation up in about 30 seconds and said, "Sir, clearly you are not Operations." ... my hubs one job is to be my travel companion and holder of the purse! Again, IYKYK And honestly... he wasn't wrong. Oktoberfest is going on right now, and I absolutely would have loved to experience it, but we're on a schedule and Bologna is calling. Maybe next year... we'll see. One thing is for sure though... Munich definitely made the list for a return trip. There's way too much history and too many sights in this area for me to only experience the airport. Until next time, Munich.

Anyway, it gets packed - and while I have used Munich trains a lot, I can see that it might be confusing for visitors. There aren't really very clear instructions (though you can get English and other languages on the machines). The train is a wonderful option to get into the city, but I do recommend, if you haven't taken the train in Munich or aren't good at seeking out information alone, to read up first on the 'rules' to make sure you have a very smooth trip.

You know how when something you have assumed is always there is not there and it's a complete…read moredisaster? That happened when I arrived at MUC and the S-Bahn was down. I have never seen a less organized cluster of incompetence and it only got worse as I tried to get on a replacement bus. There were three people directing traffic and they were simply overwhelmed with the load of passengers that just kept arriving and arriving and arriving. No organization, no good announcements, and the people were no better. They were pushing, shoving and pretty much elbowing people to get on the rare buses that were slowly arriving. After about 30 minutes of watching this and seeing no real progress, when a taxi pulled up and said "Paid" I jumped on it. I shouted "Share ride!" and three others got in with me. For €20, I was driven to the main Munich train station. Seriously, Munich. Failures happen. Have a better way of dealing with it. Read closely as if you do the quick math, buying a day ticket will save you some money, instead of buying two one way tickets. Plus it's really really close to the airport. So if you're only in town for Oktoberfest and then leaving then I suggest staying outside the city limits of Munich. The pros: -It was really cheap to stay here compared to any hotel or Airbnb in Munich -It is a set price for your stay so no hidden fees -The staff speak English -The accommodations were quite nice and reasonable for our party of two -The have beer in the vending machines -They make pizzas on-site -The Wi-Fi was reasonably fast -The water stayed hot for a long period of time -The beds were reasonably comfy and the room was super clean -It's only about an hour to Munich by train -It's only about a 20-30 € taxi ride from Munich (as of Sept 2015) -check in/out was easy -they have maps and things on getting around Hallbergmoos and which transportation goes where The cons: -This place really is out in the middle of nowhere -It's kind of creepy finding this place at night as you have to walk through fields that aren't well lit or on highways that also aren't lit -There are not a lot of places to eat and the grocery stores are about 10-15 mins from the hotel -The breakfast is an extra 10 € per person and it's definitely not worth the money as it's just dry cereal, fruit, coffee, juice and breads. I think they had hard-boiled eggs, but I forget. -lots of good stuff including beer and adult beverages in the vending machine -You have to catch a bus from the train station like 15 stops to get to the right stop -Not easy to find using Google Maps directions Overall I thought this place was awesome for only 59.00 € + the breakfast. Some people may not like the inconvenience of not being right in the heart of the big city and will pay more for convenience. The trains are hyper fast so I really didn't mind. We got a tourist 3 day train pass from the train station so all the public transportation is basically included for about 20 €. It was perfect during our stay for Oktoberfest and plus since it's one of the last stops on the train most of the drunk people had already gotten off and we were able to rest and relax in the B&B.
