Cool historic square. We enjoyed visiting the Romerberg square today. We got here early this morning and the square was pretty empty. Then after a 100 minute Main River cruise, we came back to the square and it was jam packed. The storefronts are really beautiful. We went into one shop to buy some souvenirs. There was some sort of celebration going on today. I think it was for a school fraternity. There were older alumni there as well as young students. Setup for this was a beer wagon and brat cook. We got in line and ordered beers and brats. There were a number of rows of picnic tables setup for this even and we found space there to eat/drink. There was a band made up of older and younger people. It was nice to eat and listen to the music. Romerberg square is a must-see when in Frankfurt.

Beautiful area of Frankfurt. Pretty crowded, but the architecture is so gorgeous. Many food options here.

I love the historical square with the Frankfurt Statue of Liberty and historical buildings. Many tourists like to take photos here

This is an old Roman square, it is the quintessential and classic view of Germany for me. There are also some Roman ruins nearby. There are lots of cute little shops and kiosks for food and drinks. This is where you can find the true Tudor style buildings in its original design and form. It is so much more detailed and classier than the basic cookie cutter styles back in the states, but we try to emulate the best we can. Would love some of these designs back in MI.

Reminds me of the story gingerbread and how the homes would look like if brought to real life. Communal town square in Frankfurt. I can see how this square can be very seasonal during the holidays.

I'm not exactly sure how to rate Romer since it's not a business but I'll tell you this: I walked in the rain for an hour to get here. I spent perhaps 10 minutes or so taking pictures and just soaking in the beauty of this place.. It was worth it. If you're in Frankfurt, you HAVE TO visit Romer. It's gorgeous. There are little souvenir shops in the areas and some cafes around too.

A must stop for any tourist visiting Downtown Frankfurt. This small square is where you should start your exploring of Downtown Frankfurt. Take the train/subway to the Dom/Romer stop and you're smack dab in the middle of it all. Check out the cool looking houses (see the pictures), take tons of pictures of the square, check out the souvenir shops and take more pictures. Visit Dom Bart's next door and the Eiserner Steg (bridge) across the street. Walk north and you'll find all your shops, restaurants, establishments at the walking street. Don't be afraid to open that map or you might get lost.

What a cool place to visit! My husband and I were in Frankfurt for the New Year and we were told to visit the quaint old town. There were LOTS of tourists but it is the holidays so it was expected. We got some great pics, enjoyed a coffee and pastry at a cafe on the corner and enjoyed the scenery. Love the character (even if it's not the original old town). I'd recommend checking it out if your looking for something to do! We walked the river and checked out the surrounding buildings/ landmarks.

Römerberg is the central square of the Altstadt or old city of Frankfurt am Main. When we visited there last year, we watched a wedding being done right in the square and the wedding car was a turquoise 1957 Chevy. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/OhPv0oelChIpXVJgk0M4rw?select=9jDbKp2lCZbR2ijOj2QpZQ It is a colorful place that has been restored. It is great if you have a three or more hour layover at Frankfurt International Airport. You take the train from the airport into town and then get off at the Hauptwache station and walk about five blocks south toward the river. There is a farmer's market from the station to Römerberg with all kinds of cool stuff. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/OhPv0oelChIpXVJgk0M4rw?select=eT4PpZ5GDP3zCthRNhAPDw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/OhPv0oelChIpXVJgk0M4rw?select=DJK8EjxSDyT_Jdgo4KZYDg At Römerberg, there are interesting little stores and some very good restaurants. We liked Zum Standesämtchen the best. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/OhPv0oelChIpXVJgk0M4rw?select=aGU8_V0-prKXtOEEBWFhFg It is on a corner looking out over the fountain in the middle of the square. Delicious soup and bread. Great Beer. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/OhPv0oelChIpXVJgk0M4rw?select=aqjDHSw4BQ0chLuBDc1KYQ We also tried Zum Schwarzen Stern and really liked the rotkohl with their game meats.

I was in Frankfurt for work, but this highly listed landmark was 5 mins from my hotel, so I checked it out on my way home one evening. I think it is listed number one on Yelp under land marks. Essentially it's an old German square and seems to be the main meeting/focal point of the riverside area of Frankfurt. If you have been to other big European cities and visited some of their magnificent squares you are not going to be blown away, but it is definitely worth a look. It had old styled historic "looking" buildings, a decent statue, big flags, a big church, cobbles and of course some decent opportunities to take a couple of cheeky snaps for your Yelp or IG accounts. (If that's you type of thing!) I went when it was cold, but I can imagine it's better during the summer with the tables filled outside the bars, the beer flowing and the sunshine scorching down. Still well worth a ten minute wander round at any time of year though.

As far as landmarks goes this place is not bad. When you compare this to other places in Bavaria where all the original buildings are intact this place looks and feels young and reconstructed. There are some lovely building here and a number of tourist cafes. It seems like the location to get married or be photographed after a wedding. There were at least three wedding parties at the square when we got there at 10am. There were also loads of tourists about. If you are in Frankfurt you should visit this place. I would not recommend a special trip to see it when you can see some great history around other cities of Germany.

I still remember the first time I stepped into the Romerplatz, and in a way I hadn't expected to see anything like this in Europe. While I had been to Europe previously I simply don't remember visiting anything quite a grand - well, there was Dam Square, but that didn't really register all that much. However, this is the original town square, and the buildings that surround it are absolutely gorgeous. While there are some restaurants and beer halls around it, to me it is more just standing in the middle and looking around that really stuns me. However, as it turns out, this is not the original as it had been destroyed in the war, but it does still hold that great, medieval charm.

Great place to visit and enjoy the day. During the day, it's quiet and peaceful. The evenings tend to get busy!

After exploring the city to the fullest, we were looking for a spot to grab a drink. I had done a…read morelittle research on the most reviewed bars in town (with good ratings) and Eschenheimer Turm Cafe was one of the ones that I jotted down. It was also close to where we were so we walked over for happy hour. Ambiance (3.5/5): This bar and restaurant is known for it's tower. From doing a little research, I found that there's limited seating in the tower. Unfortunately, this wasn't a possibility when we were there, so we sat out on their spacious patio. A bit of a bummer, but we made the most of it. The weather was nice so the patio wasn't a bad consolation prize. Al fresco dining is the way to go in Europe. Service (3/5): Pretty much your standard European service. Not terribly attentive, not terribly efficient, but it does the job. You'll have to track down your waiter here and there, but that's pretty much the standard in Germany and Europe as a whole. Food (N/A): We only stopped by for drinks so I can't comment on the food. Drinks (3/5): They have a pretty extensive cocktail list, and it was happy hour, so we were able to get a good deal on their adult beverages. The cocktails are pretty much standard cocktails, not a lot on the inventive side of things. I'm talking things like margaritas, mojitos, Hugos, etc. Eschenheimer Turn Cafe made for a nice break during a day of exploring. It just would have been fun to sit in the tower as it's their most distinctive feature.

What a delightful experience!…read more I was a little surprised when we got here to find out that we wouldn't be dining inside the tower, which was what I had previously expected, but we had a great time nonetheless! You can make a reservation ahead of time online, but we found it didn't do anything special for us as we were told to just pick anywhere to sit and eat as it wasn't very crowded when we arrived. There is SOME indoor dining, but sitting outside is much more pleasant, especially in the summer. They have VEGAN SCHNITZEL on the menu, which was very exciting for me as I am of German heritage but am now vegetarian, so I haven't eaten schnitzel since I stopped eating meat. It was delicious and very satisfying! Also, you CAN go up in the tower. The restrooms are actually up at the top of the tower, which I found very interesting as I wouldn't think it would be ideal to install plumbing at the top of a 15th castle tower. Be sure to go check it out, even if you don't have to pee! Tip: if you order extra sauce, they will charge you for it. We were unaware of this as extra sauce is usually at no charge where we're from (the U.S.), so this is a warning to any Americans who plan to come here.
