I had a family vacation planned in Myrtle Beach, where I wanted to get professional family pictures taken while we were there. I browsed Google searches and came across Ryan Smith Photography. Going through his portfolio of pictures online, I knew he would be a good fit for what we were after... fun, candid, beach, etc. Ryan had great communication from the start through the whole process- about setting dates, payment options, meet up details, parking logistics, processing time, etc. He gave great instructions on where to meet and we followed to the nearby park he suggested. The location was great, offering a mix of different picture background options, in addition to the beach pictures, which was a nice bonus to mix up the pictures we had available to us at the end. We had a group of 7, ages ranging from seniors to teenagers. Ryan was great at suggesting ideas, poses, and what angles to shoot from. He also let us come up with a few ideas to add to the mix of picture options. He was super flexible! We were shooting for probably a good 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Ryan is very personable and made us feel comfortable! You can really tell this by the results of our pictures, where no one seemed uncomfortable or stiff. We all had fun and had a lot of laughs that he was able to really capture for us. Overall I would recommend Ryan and his skills for anyone looking for family pictures, weddings, senior pictures, etc. He truly is so talented and I (and my whole family) were very impressed with the results. Thank you Ryan for everything! I had been wanting to get updated pictures done for so long and I'm so glad we got connected to make it happen, I couldn't be more pleased with the experience or the results! read more

Our Myrtle Beach family photo session was absolutely incredible Ryan was amazing to work with--he made the whole experience feel easy, fun, and stress-free (even with kids!). He truly has a gift for capturing genuine moments, and we ended up with so many beautiful photos that we'll treasure forever. We gifted this session to our parents for Christmas, and it turned out to be such a special and meaningful surprise. Being able to capture our family during this season of life meant everything. We loved it so much that we're already planning to make this a tradition every year on vacation. If you're ever in Myrtle Beach, we can't recommend this enough! read more

We are so glad we had Ryan take more pictures for us! We used him to take our surprise engagement pictures 6 years ago and came back this year for maternity photos. He was again great to work with, made us feel comfortable during the shoot, took fantastic photos, and returned them very quickly. I highly recommend Ryan and cannot wait to go back to him to take family photos! read more

He does not respond in a timely manner. We wanted to book him for a wedding and spent 2 weeks calling and emailing. Customer service is clearly not his strong point. read more

For my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, we rented a house on Surfside Beach. Ryan came out to our rental to do a sunset photo shoot for our whole family. We were just thrilled with the results! He made sure to get photos of the whole group as well as shots with the sub-groups like grandparents with the grandkids, etc, in a variety of fun and creative poses. read more

If you want art that is dynamic, original, colorful, and adds a comprehensive sense of the world that surrounds us, I can't think of a better place to start than Ryan Smith Photography. Ryan doesn't just take photos; he uses advanced techniques in metal floats to take pictures to an entirely different level. Essentially, he infuses dyes directly into specially-coated glossy metal, giving the works what Ryan describes as a "magical luminescence." I have happened across Ryan's work over that last year-plus at several trade shows including the Salt Lake Home Show. His collection and his presence has grown. The first booth I saw him at was tucked away, the most recent could have seconded as a Soho art gallery, teeming with eager customers. Ryan's art has never been out of place at a home show, as his stuff has the beauty and artistry that would add gravitas to any living room. First, there's the landscapes. IMHO, his emphasis is on the beauty of the U.S. Amongst my personal faves are his photos of Babcock Grist Mill (West Virginia), The Cathedral at Nā Pali (Hawaii), under the pier at Scripps Beach (La Jolla, CA), The Bean (Chicago), Mt. Sneffels (Rocky Mountains), Lewis Falls (WA), and a STUNNING shot of of one of the famed Rainbow Eucalyptus trees (Hawaii). There's also a significant focus on his home state, Utah. To name a few: The Narrows at Zion, Mesa Arch, False Kiva at Canyonlands, Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River, Bridal Veil Falls, and--my personal favorite called "Lady in Red"--a wavy, purple and brown-hued view inside Antelope Canyon. He also explores the outdoors around the world, from Morning at Moraine Lake near Banff (Canada) to the Fanad Head Lighthouse of Donegal (Ireland). Ryan has built up some dynamic photographs of cars: vintage Cadillacs, Chevys, and Fords seem to be a new focus. Loving them! Ryan also does workshops, helping others master color, light, composition, post-editing techniques, and finding the perfect place to take the perfect picture. Admittedly, I'm no art aficionado--but, then again, neither are most people buying prints. If buying purely on the stunning beauty of a piece, you'd be hard-pressed to go wrong with Ryan Smith's wide array of colorful, dynamic works. read more

Experienced & Talented Photographer Ryan was so amazing to work with on our special day! His pictures are absolutely beautiful and I highly, highly recommend! read more

We just got our pictures back from Ryan and they are amazing. Our extended family was together at the beach (a rare occasion for us all to be in the same place at the same time) and he did such an awesome job of capturing all of us together as well as taking individual family pictures for us. He is professional, patient, knowledgable, and very talented. My whole family recommends! read more

Of all the choices I've made for my wedding, choosing Ryan Smith Photography was likely the best one. Ryan showed up early on the day of and checked in with me immediately upon arrival and went straight to work. He was so much fun, personable, and professional. He turned the photos around quickly and responded to all of my emails immediately. Everyone loved him. My family and friends are still talking about him! I have a condition that makes my eyes look a bit strange in pictures sometimes and I was concerned about my wedding photos looking distorted. I had spoken with Ryan and he was very respectful of this. I was sure that there would be a number of pictures that I would not love because of my eye. Imagine my surprise when every single photo was perfect! The effort he put in to us and the time he spent perfecting every little shot was unreal. The pictures he took have given me a knew confidence that I didn't have before my wedding. If you're looking for the right photographer, look no further. Ryan is the best of the best! read more

I had several pros and cons using Ryan Smith as my wedding photographer. The pros: There are some beautiful bridal portraits and photographs of my husband and I together. He also did an excellent job capturing some candid shots throughout the reception! The pictures we have are gorgeous and really give a good feel of the wedding. The cons: We do not have a single photograph of our entire bridal party, we do not have a single photograph of us with our families (not even with our immediate families let alone with our extended families). Some of my relatives who flew in from Canada to come to our wedding are not in any of the pictures. There is one picture of us with our cousins (the only shot with either of us with any of them) but there is a tall centerpiece in the middle of the table that blocks out most of their faces. I don't have a picture of my dress. We have maybe 3 photographs of the decor, but beyond that no photographs of the majority of the venue or decorations. Basically, Ryan Smith is an excellent photographer. However, I would personally recommend giving him a list of exactly what shots are important to you ahead of time. It is really difficult to remember to get those photos taken when you are caught up in the best night of your life. I would also recommend making him bring an assistant (I asked about this before the wedding and he assured me he did not need an assistant). I think with an assistant there may have been a better chance of getting all the photographs I had wanted. Ryan Smith can also be a bit defensive, so just be ware. When I brought these issues to his attention he blamed the situation (which I do not feel was the issue) rather than taking responsibility and simply apologizing. So overall, excellent photographer, but had a few issues. read more

I cannot express how easy going & professional Ryan is. After being snubbed by an original photographer suggested by a friend, I went with my gut & reached out to Ryan per the request of my venue! He was so easy to communicate with & his volume of work was great so needless to say, I was extremely satisfied. His energy was also great, he genuinely wanted to be a part of our day & take great photos of everything. He has a good eye for backdrops & scenery & let's you just be you. He was great with the kids at the venue & I recommend him for great, gorgeous family photos! If you are looking for a sweet, kind, energetic photographer, Ryan Smith is it! read more

When my husband and I got engaged last year the first thing we did was find a photographer. We wanted beautiful pictures to help us remember our special day. When I saw Ryan's work I knew he was the photographer we wanted. He was great with communication and was very easy to get along with. He dealt well with my bride brain and I was appreciative! We chose to do engagement pictures in addition to the wedding. We were not disappointed! Even though it rained on the day of our engagement photo shoot, the photos were gorgeous. The day of the wedding, Ryan was around and observing. Taking pictures when we didn't even realize. When we got our album back we were so pleased and so impressed at how beautiful the pictures were. There were moments we missed that he captured. I get that sometimes people want to just go and enjoy themselves but we wanted a photographer that would take time and give us our monies worth. Ryan was speedy but didn't rush. We suggest to all couples to invest your money in an amazing photographer. Those pictures are all you have left from your wedding day. We very much recommend Ryan to anyone that wants to have beautiful memories. read more

I don't know how Ryan did it. Under the circumstances (two tired kids, some family awkwardness, the heat and humidity, etc.), there were a staggering number of our photos that were not just gorgeous but downright miracles. I seriously thought there might be just 2 or 3 based on the wiggliness of my 1 year old and 4 year old so I am incredibly pleased. Ryan was easy to work with, communicated well, and was not phased in the least by our rowdy angels or nervous adults. The color and the light in the pictures are so beautiful, and we are having such fun poring over them and deciding which ones to order! read more

Ryan was the photographer for our wedding a few weeks ago. Ryan was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable in all of his communication with us prior to the wedding. On the day of the wedding, Ryan arrived early and never stopped taking pictures for the whole time he was there. The weather was rainy, which presented a challenge because we wanted some pictures taken within the grounds of the venue, but Ryan worked with us to grab us in moments when the rain had stopped or lessened and we were able to get the shots we wanted. Ryan only took a little under two weeks in post-production and delivered to us nearly 900 photos of excellent quality. We were thrilled with Ryan's work, and would heartily recommend him to anyone who is looking for an experienced photographer who will guide them every step of the way. Thanks Ryan! read more

Ryan Smith photographed my wedding and I could not have asked for a better, more patient photographer. He was everywhere we needed him to be, when we needed him to be there. I still look back on my photos of that day in awe. It was captured so perfectly. I quite literally put everything in his hands and let him do his thing. I was not let down. I would use him for any event. read more

Wow, had an awesome engagement session with Ryan smith two days ago. My fiancé was a bit challenging for Ryan due to him not smiling but Ryan worked well with him and the photos came out great. We came from out of state for our wedding in Myrtle Beach and Ryan was an outstanding find for our engagement and wedding photos! Ryan was incredibly helpful and flexible right off the bat when we reached out. We scheduled an engagement photoshoot with Ryan a few months before the wedding to get to know him better and learn his style before the big day. Because we were unfamiliar with the area, Ryan helped us find a great location and delivered some of the most beautiful engagement photos I've ever seen in a very shot timeline (less than 1 week). Because we were only in town for a short time Ryan was even generous enough to invite us to his home office after the engagement photos to talk through the wedding day plan and what to expect. On the day of the wedding Ryan and his lovely assistant (his wife:) arrived right on schedule and began shooting detail shots and setting up the photo booth in the background while us girls hung out upstairs and got ready. Throughout the day Ryan was very helpful making suggestions about lighting/locations and reminding us of photos we had wanted done. One thing I had specifically asked Ryan for on the day of the wedding was exterior shots of the venue in day and night setting since we were drawn to the place for it's beauty and Ryan absolutely delivered. The exteriors are some of my favorite shots and I cannot wait to add them to our included photo album. Normally I do not like having my photo taken as I'm conscious about how it will turn out, but Ryan made the day easy and fun for everyone (including the younger members of our bridal party). We cannot believe that he was able to turn around our wedding album in just under 2 weeks with it being the start of wedding season (mid-May) and we are in love with all our photos. Cannot recommend Ryan enough for wedding or engagement photos - we had a blast and love the result! read more

I have always wanted beach pictures and so I researched online while planning our trip to Myrtle Beach. Ryan was so great!! We have four kids ages 8-15 and even they enjoyed working with him! He knew the best spot, the best time and worked tirelessly to get just the right shots. Our friends and family were amazed at the quality and quantity of great shots! I would highly recommend if you are in the Myrtle Beach area and you are looking for a professional photographer for some amazing beach pictures! read more

All I can say is how happy I am to have Ryan Smith as our wedding photogropher! We are planning our destination wedding in the Myrtle beach area for the fall, and took a trip down there in the beginning of April to tie down some of the details. Ryan was very accommodating with his time and worked around our quick weekend away to help us. He was able to fit us in (on a busy weekend for him) to have an engagement session. He brought us to this really nice beach area, and not only made us feel comfortable, but made sure that the pictures came out really nice! He was always giving us hints on how to stand/pose to ensure that all of our pictures were top notch! I am having a hard time narrowing down the pictures we like to have printed! We also had my mom with us for the trip, and he was very conscious of her being there and making sure she liked the pictures, and also pointing out some nice shots of the sunset she may like to take too! I would recommend Ryan to anyone who is looking for a photographer in that area for anything from an engagement session, a wedding or a family gathering! He is very nice and loves what he does! A person who loves his profession, does it well! Thanks Ryan!! read more

Ryan was terrific to work with from start to finish. He responded right away to my inquiry, got our date booked, and sent all of the details that we needed for our beach family pics. The locations and timing/lighting that he suggested were perfect. He was easy to work with, friendly, and suggested fun and thoughtful poses as well as candids. We were very impressed that he took so many pictures in just over an hour AND sent them to us soon after our session. He works well with children and is also thoughtful about the needs of older family members. We also appreciated his clear and simple pricing. We were thrilled to find such a professional photographer at the beach and recommend him highly! read more

It has been a true pleasure to work with Ryan at the Myrtle Beach in SC! First, he was very flexible in accomodating our schedule. My husband and I are both on active duty and have been separated for quite a while due to work requirements. Ryan made sure to find time to get us into his schedule. Second, he is very easy to work with. We loved the fact that he would correct our positions, adjust our attire, or just let us do our own thing during the session. Third, he was very patient with our baby who is only 8 months old. Ryan would use all means possible to get his attention and try to stay focused and smile to the camera. The bottom line, we got exactly what we asked for! A relaxed session with lots of opportunity to express ourselves, without over the top posing.Photos turned out great and we cannot wait to share them with our family and friends! We honestly felt like photos did not even need any touch ups, corrections, or adjustments. Thank you Ryan for a job very well done and patience! read more
