I had a family vacation planned in Myrtle Beach, where I wanted to get professional family pictures taken while we were there. I browsed Google searches and came across Ryan Smith Photography. Going through his portfolio of pictures online, I knew he would be a good fit for what we were after... fun, candid, beach, etc. Ryan had great communication from the start through the whole process- about setting dates, payment options, meet up details, parking logistics, processing time, etc. He gave great instructions on where to meet and we followed to the nearby park he suggested. The location was great, offering a mix of different picture background options, in addition to the beach pictures, which was a nice bonus to mix up the pictures we had available to us at the end. We had a group of 7, ages ranging from seniors to teenagers. Ryan was great at suggesting ideas, poses, and what angles to shoot from. He also let us come up with a few ideas to add to the mix of picture options. He was super flexible! We were shooting for probably a good 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Ryan is very personable and made us feel comfortable! You can really tell this by the results of our pictures, where no one seemed uncomfortable or stiff. We all had fun and had a lot of laughs that he was able to really capture for us. Overall I would recommend Ryan and his skills for anyone looking for family pictures, weddings, senior pictures, etc. He truly is so talented and I (and my whole family) were very impressed with the results. I had several pros and cons using Ryan Smith as my wedding photographer. The pros: There are some beautiful bridal portraits and photographs of my husband and I together. He also did an excellent job capturing some candid shots throughout the reception! The pictures we have are gorgeous and really give a good feel of the wedding. The cons: We do not have a single photograph of our entire bridal party, we do not have a single photograph of us with our families (not even with our immediate families let alone with our extended families). Some of my relatives who flew in from Canada to come to our wedding are not in any of the pictures. There is one picture of us with our cousins (the only shot with either of us with any of them) but there is a tall centerpiece in the middle of the table that blocks out most of their faces. I don't have a picture of my dress. We have maybe 3 photographs of the decor, but beyond that no photographs of the majority of the venue or decorations. Basically, Ryan Smith is an excellent photographer. However, I would personally recommend giving him a list of exactly what shots are important to you ahead of time. It is really difficult to remember to get those photos taken when you are caught up in the best night of your life. I would also recommend making him bring an assistant (I asked about this before the wedding and he assured me he did not need an assistant). I think with an assistant there may have been a better chance of getting all the photographs I had wanted. Ryan Smith can also be a bit defensive, so just be ware. When I brought these issues to his attention he blamed the situation (which I do not feel was the issue) rather than taking responsibility and simply apologizing. So overall, excellent photographer, but had a few issues. read more

When my husband and I got engaged last year the first thing we did was find a photographer. We wanted beautiful pictures to help us remember our special day. We chose to do engagement pictures in addition to the wedding. We were not disappointed! Even though it rained on the day of our engagement photo shoot, the photos were gorgeous. There were moments we missed that he captured. I get that sometimes people want to just go and enjoy themselves but we wanted a photographer that would take time and give us our monies worth. Ryan was speedy but didn't rush. We suggest to all couples to invest your money in an amazing photographer. Those pictures are all you have left from your wedding day. I don't know how Ryan did it. Under the circumstances (two tired kids, some family awkwardness, the heat and humidity, etc.), there were a staggering number of our photos that were not just gorgeous but downright miracles. I seriously thought there might be just 2 or 3 based on the wiggliness of my 1 year old and 4 year old so I am incredibly pleased. Ryan was the photographer for our wedding a few weeks ago. Ryan was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable in all of his communication with us prior to the wedding. On the day of the wedding, Ryan arrived early and never stopped taking pictures for the whole time he was there. The weather was rainy, which presented a challenge because we wanted some pictures taken within the grounds of the venue, but Ryan worked with us to grab us in moments when the rain had stopped or lessened and we were able to get the shots we wanted. Ryan only took a little under two weeks in post-production and delivered to us nearly 900 photos of excellent quality. We came from out of state for our wedding in Myrtle Beach and Ryan was an outstanding find for our engagement and wedding photos! Ryan was incredibly helpful and flexible right off the bat when we reached out. We scheduled an engagement photoshoot with Ryan a few months before the wedding to get to know him better and learn his style before the big day. Because we were unfamiliar with the area, Ryan helped us find a great location and delivered some of the most beautiful engagement photos I've ever seen in a very shot timeline (less than 1 week). Because we were only in town for a short time Ryan was even generous enough to invite us to his home office after the engagement photos to talk through the wedding day plan and what to expect. On the day of the wedding Ryan and his lovely assistant (his wife:) arrived right on schedule and began shooting detail shots and setting up the photo booth in the background while us girls hung out upstairs and got ready. Throughout the day Ryan was very helpful making suggestions about lighting/locations and reminding us of photos we had wanted done. One thing I had specifically asked Ryan for on the day of the wedding was exterior shots of the venue in day and night setting since we were drawn to the place for it's beauty and Ryan absolutely delivered. The exteriors are some of my favorite shots and I cannot wait to add them to our included photo album. Normally I do not like having my photo taken as I'm conscious about how it will turn out, but Ryan made the day easy and fun for everyone (including the younger members of our bridal party). We cannot believe that he was able to turn around our wedding album in just under 2 weeks with it being the start of wedding season (mid-May) and we are in love with all our photos. All I can say is how happy I am to have Ryan Smith as our wedding photogropher! We are planning our destination wedding in the Myrtle beach area for the fall, and took a trip down there in the beginning of April to tie down some of the details. Ryan was very accommodating with his time and worked around our quick weekend away to help us. He was able to fit us in (on a busy weekend for him) to have an engagement session.
