I'm overjoyed to say that I've found my new local med spa and dermatologist!…read more I had become quite addicted to getting monthly facials which, at a med spa is an entirely different experience. I love getting oxygen facials and a variety of others that I just discovered last spring when I signed up for a subscription plan at the spa close to home in New York. Upon moving back to NOLA, I searched Yelp for a med spa with a subscription plan and immediately made my appointment. A subscription plan is nice because going monthly is key to keeping your skin in tip top shape. Admittedly I haven't done much more than use good products throughout my adulthood but now I'm a believer! I also get the occasional laser Genesis treatments (evens skin tone, erases fine lines et), which Hickham has here as well. It's the least invasive laser (honestly, I always think lasers hurt) and leaves you positively glowing. My appointment was with Dawn and she was great! We did dermaplaning and the laser Genesis and I left loving my positively dewy skin. No downtime with Laser Genesis either. Hickham offers two kinds of subscription services, one for facials and one for laser treatments and microneedling (which is a little scary for me but I may check it out eventually). Both plans get you discounts on other products and services at the spa. I also visited with Dr. Hickham for that oh-so-crucial full body scan, which was quick and easy. I'll definitely be going back to her if and when I need to as she made me feel super comfortable. I'll be back regularly!

Last year, I underwent a CO2 laser procedure with Dr. Diane Trieu. She gave me minimal information…read morebeforehand--emailed instructions arrived less than 48 hours before the procedure--and she downplayed its intensity and risks. There was no mention of the need for antibiotics or the potential for a severe reaction to the aftercare sunscreen she provided. Her instructions told me on day 3 that if going outside, I must apply sunscreen. I followed these instructions using the sunscreen she provided, and 4 hours later, I got a severe contact dermatitis reaction, triggering 2 months of painful blisters and an infection that left me with a permanent scar along my jaw. Red bumps still appear randomly on my cheeks--something I never experienced before. Turns out you should not use sunscreen on a fully ablative face for at least a month because sunscreen is made for the epidermis. Worse, I learned that the sunscreen she recommended had been flagged in national studies, including a recent segment on The Today Show, for safety concerns. I now understand that not all dermatologists stay current with research or understand allergen profiles in the products they recommend. If you're considering any cosmetic skin procedure, especially those involving ablative lasers, please have a thorough consultation, review the risks in writing, and research the products prescribed to you. I trusted Dr. Trieu with my face--and I deeply regret it. Every time I look in the mirror and see this scar or the red bumps, I think of Dr. Trieu.

Then they got out a black light, ( looked like something we decorated our rooms with in the 90's ) plugged it in by her, and then moves it in front of her face for a minute, I think, could have been 3. ( They had a sad kitchen timer to let them know when time was up.) Then they prescribed her like 5 different things, all harsh on her skin. Then bill came in, that was the funniest part. Charged me about $240 for her facial ( trying to pop pimples on her face) and around $240 for her ( can't remember what they called this one, but I think it was like a chemical treatment ( the black lights from the 90's, swiped in front of her face for 1-3 minutes ). Probably gonna call BBB on them.

After use had to explain to her that what she was telling me I got treated for was wrong she then says that she don't feel anything. She's telling me she doesn't even feel all the bumps under my arm. Honestly she didn't want to touch me. The nurse came in and found the spots in seconds. Then she came back in and said oh I feel someth8ng but it's very superficial. It is not.. They are very deep bumps that are embedded in my arm sockets. So that day I received the shots. Today she comes in with the same I don't give damn attitude, so I left. You're not going reat me if you can careless about me. Now mind you this is not my 1st time here. My 1st experience was great. The care team did an amazing job at treating the condition on my back. I'm not going to say don't go here. But I will say my experience second experience with Janice solidified my decision in not coming back!!!

I miss Dr. Patricia Farris, she appears to have stopped practicing and now a new company has taken…read moreover Sanova Dermatology. There's been quite a change since Dr. Farris is no longer in the office. She had the best personality, was funny and yet very thorough. Her diagnoses were spot on. I really miss her, the office milieu seems to have changed since her exit. Sanova Dermatology has a Baton Rouge location which someone mimics the Metairie Road office before Dr. Farris' exit. I am really, really sorry, Dr. Farris appears to have given up her practice and is no longer practicing. I have had a great professional relationship with Dr. Farris for over 20 years. I was shocked to read a substandard review of her. I do not aim to in anyway discount or discredit anyone else's adverse experience with Dr. Farris, but my experiences were always thorough, professional, and extremely accurate. I don't live in the Greater New Orleans región and yet I've traveled to her uptown office, Metairie office and now Metairie Road office. She is a wealth of information and committed to continuous learning. She's definitely the epitome of what doctors should strive for in the practice. Dr. Farris, you are missed. Wishing you good health, happiness, and a wonderful retirement. I had a granddaughter who was training under her, not sure where she landed, but, it would be nice to know. If she's anything like a grandmother (Dr. P. Farris) she's going to be an excellent dermatologist. My rating of 4 stars represents my past experiences with Dr. P. Farris, as I am not familiar with the other doctors practices, in the office. However, if she is anything like P Farris, the rating would be 5 stars.

If you are looking for anything relating to skin at Westlake Dermatology, (or anywhere in Austin)…read morethe only person to see is Dr. Kyle Coleman; he is the best there is! He is an actual dermatologist (not a nurse or an aesthetician (sp?) and does all of his procedures himself...I love that! and let me tell you why... I had some serious health issues that resulted in major unwanted changes to my skin. Because he is a physician, and also understood my underlying health issues, he helped devise a short and a long term plan to help me return my skin to what someone 10 years younger than I would be proud of! Before Dr. Coleman, I had tried the approach of just trying the latest laser/machine/fad to try to fix my skin. I would buy the recommended number of sessions for the latest machine and a very nice nurse/aesthetician would administer the latest treatment, but that was it....but I was never happy with the results. And I think it was because I was trying to fix isolated areas instead of having a dermatologist take an overall approach. Having Dr. Coleman put an overall plan (which for me included laser and other things) together made the difference for me, he was able to monitor my progress and then make changes to things if we needed to... Not to mention he does the best botox! I love having a dermatologist that I can go to for everything. I have been recommending him to everyone...hopefully he won't get too busy!

A little background...I had surgery in Kansas City on my face to have two scars removed. When I moved to Austin, I was referred by my plastic surgeon to Westlake Dermatology. Immediately, Dr. Coleman made me feel comfortable. He listened to my needs and took the time to explain every option that was best for me and what I wanted. He offered laser treatments and steroid shots (to name a few) just to make the scars from the surgery look and heal faster. And, he didn't ask me to pay for it. He wanted to do something to help me feel better about having two ugly incisions on my face and that was so kind. Immediately, I could tell he wasn't there just to make the most money or sell procedures to make you look like everyone else. It is very obvious that he wants to help people look and feel their best. Every procedure I have received from him has been perfect. What I value most about him is he consistent in his actions. He is a honest and genuine doctor. One with integrity. One you can trust. For me that speaks for everything. I highly recommend Dr. Coleman to anyone! He truly is the best!
