The van came fully equipped with all the necessary needs and more. The secondary battery was very handy for food/drinks and charging devices. The bed was super comfortable with all bedding provided. We didn't use the shower or toilet as it seemed too much hassle when there is ocean and toilets everywhere. We used the kitchen and stove every day and it worked like a charm, very convenient. Just be aware it warms up the inside significantly, so leave enough time to air it out. The bug netting for all windows helped a lot, and we typically slept with the door and windows open. The bed is pretty decent, I was not able to fully stretch out (5'11") but ot was close. We got a solid 6-8hours every night and were not sore or cramped afterwards. It drives great, we did not have any trouble even on the road to Hana and beyond. Gas mileage: 9.5 mpg averaged. The van is on the big side for the road to Hana and beyond, but we did it without any issues, including the offroad parts. Just be mindful of the narrow parts and be ready to backup when needed if you encounter oncoming traffic at the wrong spots. We had a close challenge only once, when we were parked on a very steep hill and the downhill clearance to the next car was only 2 ft. In reverse the van slipped too much forward and nearly hit the car in front, and we needed to use the hand brake to reverse without going forward. Just be aware, this thing is heavy. Would definitely recommend and pick over the smaller vans or rooftop Jeeps you see everywhere.

We couldn't imagine experiencing Maui in a more convenient, intimate and fun way. We really appreciate the time Sean took to explain all the equipment and how to set up the tent so we would feel comfortable when we were on our own. We highly recommend Camp Maui X and can't wait to go back!

Sean and Anna at Camp Maui X made Maui and all it had to offer happen for us even the day after the worst series of storms the island had seen in years. They had our vehicle fully stocked and ready to go as mud was being plowed out of their neighborhood. We'd never used a tent top rig before but after a practice run with Sean, we took off to the grocery store, stocked our cooler and had the time of our lives. ....In case you're wondering, we're not "young" people at 45 & 60, that can sleep anywhere, so I have to admit, I was a little worried about the comfort factor of sleeping on top of a car for 9 days. Truly, we had no need to worry. The tent floor is a super thick and comfortable, queen-sized, memory foam pad. It was a pretty sweet place to lie down every night! Having our sleeping quarters on top of our rental car meant we could pop up at night whenever we were done for the day and then skeedaddle in the morning for our early plans. Due to the destruction on the island from the storm, we were able to change our plans on the fly and stay on the south side of the island where the waters were calmer and clearer. We weren't nailed into a condo or hotel somewhere where the conditions were trashed. We had a few nights reserved at Camp Olowalu for our 9 days but went ahead and made that our base camp. They have hot showers and a view from the beach to die for right on top of a gorgeous snorkeling reef. Sean & Anna checked in with us through the week, letting us know they were there if we needed them and answering questions. We were so busy having the time of our lives that I think they thought we were "dead in a ditch" somewhere....whale watching in Lahaina, snorkeling spot after spot off the side of the road, SCUBA diving at Mala & airport, paddling an outrigger off Makena, doing a massage training in Makawau and kayaking to Molikini. Having all the gear in the Xterra was so easy!!!! We loved it! Camp Maui X!!!!! You rock! Thank you!!!!

First, I want to say that renting a fully stocked van (bed & bedding, camping gear, cooler, fridge,…read morecooking stove, utensils and eatery, beach chairs, towels, snorkel gear, boogie board, solar power station for your charging needs...you name it!) and driving around the island of Maui was MAGICAL with Vanlife Maui. From the moment we sent our first inquiry to Adam to the final text when we dropped the van at the airport, it was a wonderful and easy experience. We opted for the airport pickup and late airport drop off and it was super easy. Adam met us at the airport, showed us the ropes and then we were off on our 6 day adventure. Tips: Rent the fridge - worth it. Stay in Haleakala National Park. We did and the went on shopping excursions in Hana (very close) for ice, etc. Your pass to this park lets you stay for 3 nights! And, you get access to the hike and 7 sacred pools. Waianapanapa State Park is very beautiful, but BOOK YOUR CAMPER SPACE WELL IN ADVANCE. There is no cell service and you have to show them your reservation. Either print it out before hand or you can take a screen shot of your reservation to show them. Past Makena Beach on the South side of the island is a little stop off and we stayed there overnight. Sunset city!! Camp Olowalu - this camp is a little pricey, but it has HOT SHOWERS and a very cool vibe. The camper location fills up quick and we were lucky to get a same-day reservation...try and book in advance. You can snorkel at their beach and its close to Lahaina. Make sure you stop off at Kahanu Garden - it is a magical spot. Stop at all the little fruit stand people place out in front of their houses - delish and local. Koki Beach is beautiful - be careful of the surf there and eat all the chicken and ribs you can. Get the macaroni/potato salad! All the Maui State Parks are a NO GO for Camping. You should also know that you can contact Vanlife Maui (and Adam) throughout your stay and they are super helpful. Keep an open mind, a friendly smile and your sense of adventure and you will LOVE booking your next #VANLIFEMAUI adventure!
