After staying in the area for a few days, we realized there's a bus that goes about every 30mins from Playa Del Carmen to the airport for only $12USD per person. We wanted to try this for our returned flight. We arrived here the day before to buy the bus tickets with assigned seats. Our Airbnb was about 7mins walk away. There was a line but it went fairly quick. It's warm there so be ready for the heat as there's no AC. It's not a new bus station. We came back about 45mins before our bus and waited in the waiting area. The bus arrived about 5mins before we are to leave. Have your printed ticket or your confirmation on the phone ready to show. The baggage handlers helped us put our luggage on the belly of the bus. We tipped them a few dollars. The bus was clean and fairly newer. Easy 1 hour ride to the airport. There were some overhead USB ports above your seat if you want to use your cable to charge your phone, etc. Definitely will use the bus more in the future when visiting Playa del Carmen. Saved us money and time.

We then headed to a different location to switch vans (for some reason). The first van ride was a terrible experience. The driver was absolutely awful at driving--and was paying no mind to the fact that it was heavily raining. He was flying over speed bumps and going around corners at dangerous speeds, especially since the conditions were so poor. Everyone in the van seemed very worried about his reckless driving throughout the ride. When we got to the next van, the roof was leaking all over our shoulders and clothing, which then collected in a puddle on the floor of the van. It also looked like it had been in some sort of front collision. The ride to Coba was awful, however the tour guide was fairly interactive which somewhat made up for the terrible van. The ruins were great, I only wish that we got to learn more about them from the tour guide. It felt like we mostly just biked around the whole time and occasionally hopped off to look at a ruin. We then went to the cenote, which was nice, and then lunch, which was fine. Afterward, we went to switch vans AGAIN (for some reason). This one, thankfully, was not leaking, though its windshield was nearly shattered. We made it back to the hotel fine, but are very disappointed with the tour overall.

It is a huge resort with 18 included restaurants, bars, pools, and beaches. You also have access to all of the different parks which is an amazing perk. Our room was pretty big with two queen beds. It had a jacuzzi and hammock in the balcony. We didn't have a stellar view, but I can only imagine if you did. I also never thought that I would say this, but room service came way too many times. They would come 2 to 3 times a day, and once even asked if we needed room service at 9pm LOL. We mainly ate at the buffet, which did not need a reservation, and it was pretty good. Our overall consensus was that the food here was very diverse and yummy, but was too salty. We don't drink, so I have no comment on that. The infinity pool was pretty nice, but I wish it had a direct view of the beach. There was a river surrounding the hotel, which blocked the view. The beach was pretty accessible though, and the water was very clear. There was a lot of seaweed in it though and it was more rocky than sandy which made it hard to lay our towels down. Overall, though, the service was great and we had a great time here. I would definitely recommend it because we didn't pay for the trip haha.

Hotel Xcaret is a sprawling complex which consists of several resorts and parks which are located…read moreon property. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the resort is and how courteous the service was. Most employees speak English. I speak Spanish fairly well so I had no issues communicating. There are extensive food options including all day buffets, restaurants, group dining and room service. The buffets lean toward traditional Mexican / Yucatán fare, however, it's not overly spicy. The bakery items are fantastic and not overly sweet. The only Michelin restaurant in Mexico is here at Xcaret. So check that out if you happen to visit here. There are several parks which include water adventures, ATV rentals, zoo & aquariums, history, zip lining etc. I was able to go to the Xplor park for an afternoon when I had some downtime. It was interesting and I had a good time. The cemetery was fascinating. I posted some pictures below. There is no shortage of pools here and every hotel section has its own. The main one that over looks the beach area fills up quick in the am. There are two gyms I believe and a spa which books up quickly so plan in advance. The beach is small and it's a bit of a walk to get to. Chairs and loungers get snapped up quickly early in the day. Security here is "air tight." What I mean the grounds are patrolled by armed guards and there are several checkpoints on the roads going in and out. You have to present your wrist band when entering and leaving with the exception of being on the bus. I was there for a corporate trip and we utilized a rental car to transport our executive staff to and from the airport. Even with the stringent security, the process was fairly easy for us. Checkout is a little odd. You go to the lobby with the letter (bill) that they slide under the door the night before you leave. If you owe nothing, you hand over the letter and wrist band and you're on your way. Large groups that arranged transit via bus was a whole different matter. They had those people wait on long lines to hand over the letter and wrist band and then wait for the bus. It looked a bit convoluted and confusing. Overall I personally had a good experience. The food and service were top notch in my opinion. The time I was able to enjoy the pool and park were nice as well. This was a work related trip and I'll definitely keep it in mind for a future vacation.

Nature, monkeys, and a surprisingly drama-free stomach…read more If you're looking for a peaceful, nature-filled escape in Mexico, this resort DELIVERS Picture this: you wake up, step onto your balcony, and boom--monkeys and birds casually visiting like they paid for the room too. Deer walking around the property, lush greenery everywhere... it felt like a mini jungle paradise. Now let's get into the real tea The Good: Large, clean rooms Super relaxing vibes Friendly staff overall Beautiful beach + multiple pools Nightly entertainment every night NO stomach issues, no sickness, no bugs (if you know, you know ) Food Review (keeping it real): It's... good for the price, not gourmet. Buffet = hit or miss (I stayed loyal to breakfast/lunch stations). The steakhouse restaurant was the BEST ONE. And shoutout to Angeles (management) and Candy (head chef) because after a rough first night, they turned our whole experience around. That kind of service matters. Pro Tips (don't skip this): Make your dinner reservations ASAP Wake up before 9am if you want a good chair Bring comfy shoes (this resort is BIG) There's a trolley...but patience is required lol Tip if you can--I used USD, never felt pressured Final Verdict: Would I come back? Yes. Would I come back for the food? Meh. Would I come back for the vibes, wildlife, and relaxation? ABSOLUTELY. If you want to relax, recharge, and live your jungle fantasy... book it

1 Star - Deeply Disappointing Experience…read more Our stay at Occidental Xcaret was extremely disappointing and nowhere near what you would expect from an "all-inclusive" resort. First, the service was noticeably lacking. Staff were generally unhelpful and indifferent, and there was zero flexibility or accommodation for a late check-out, even when the resort was not busy. We felt rushed out rather than valued as guests. The amenities were poor and outdated. The overall design of the resort feels old and neglected, and the rooms were lackluster, worn, and far from comfortable. This is not a property that feels refreshed or well maintained. The biggest issue by far was the food. It was so bad that we ended up eating in town every single night, which completely defeats the purpose of booking an all-inclusive resort. Limited variety, poor quality, and unimpressive flavors across the board. Calling this place an "all-inclusive" is misleading. Between the subpar food, weak amenities, and lack of service, it simply doesn't deliver on the promise. Overall, this resort fell short in almost every category. We would not return even if we were offered credit, even if it was free, that's how bad it is. We would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you want quality service, good food, or a true all-inclusive experience.

My husband and I just got back from Sandos Playacar after a 5-day stay. We were there to attend a…read morewedding on Saturday. Pros: -This was my first time staying at an all-inclusive resort and it was super nice. Most drinks and all food were included. We went to the buffet a few times which was also nice, and the bride and groom had told us to make reservations at the dinner restaurants beforehand, so we did that. -Buffet was actually really good, I'd say comparable to Vegas ones I've been to. -The Italian restaurant was very good, and the Brazilian churrascaria was okay. The steakhouse was unfortunately just so-so but the empanadas and sides were good. -Awesome beachfront view from room. The bride and groom were Royal Elite (they're members of Sandos, I believe) and they booked us all under their reservation, which meant we had access to special parts of the resort. I was also able to text a concierge via WhatsApp to get our dinner reservations. -Complimentary minibar with beers and sodas which was refreshed daily, also a bottle of mezcal and champagne -Water bubbler in the room for safe water to drink (don't drink the water if you're not used to it, in Mexico). We also used this for brushing our teeth. -Room service was also free, although we always tipped. We did continental breakfast twice, and the Royal Elite menu had some other tasty things like prosciutto, burgers, guac and tortilla chips, etc. on it. -We were able to schedule a bellhop the day before we left, for 8:10am the next day, and they showed up promptly. Cons: -Overall the food was just okay. The Italian place on our first night was the best of the three we tried. -Wifi was great everywhere in the resort EXCEPT our room. Which was a problem because my phone provider charges me $10 a day extra in Mexico, so I was hoping to just use WiFi. Also meant streaming TV shows on my iPad was rough/laggy. -This didn't happen to us but it rained heavily our first night there, and some people in our wedding group said their rooms flooded. It did rain Monday night too and walking around the resort was tough because some of the walkways were super watery. -Check-in took a while, maybe 30 minutes including waiting in line and actually checking in. As for the wedding itself, it was on the beach on Saturday and then the reception was outdoors in a semi-private area a few hours after that. Both were really nice and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to book a beach wedding, although we were lucky the weather was good that day (I believe they do have a rain plan though). Overall I would stay here again, I did read other Yelp reviews saying that if you aren't Royal Elite a lot of the amenities are not open to you, but because our friends are members we were included in their perks.

We as a family have stayed at several all-inclusive resorts, some in Cancun and Sandos did not…read moreparticularly meet our standards for the following reasons. - Upon checking in, my wristband already did not work in opening our door. - Elevator at building 8 on the family side was broken so my brother and SIL had to carry a stroller & pack and play up 3 flights of stairs. Front desk couldn't give an estimate time of when the elevators would be fixed. They had to ask to switch rooms which was a hassle in itself because it wouldn't be available till the next day so they essentially had to repack their things by noon the following day and had to wait till 3 pm to check in to the new room. - Rooms are pretty outdated and not the cleanest, the shower had a scratchy wood tiling which felt weird on the feet especially when wet, and there's like 3 available outlets throughout the entire room. - The quality of the food is pretty lacking. We were constantly disappointed by the desserts offered at the restaurants as several did not taste the way it should (ie flan and mousse were not of usual flan or mousse consistency). The pastries at the cupcake cafe were not fresh. We found that the best restaurant was Italian - we were pleasantly pleased by each item we ordered from the menu. Second best was the El Gaucho steakhouse (although here I got a side of mac & cheese which was absolutely nothing like mac & cheese...). The rest of the restaurants we were not particularly impressed with. - All of the restaurants require a reservation except for the buffet. Reservations can only be made through the app or if you walk up to the guest services counter at 4 pm each day to check if there were any cancellations for that day. This made it hard to snag solid dinner options because every time we checked the app, there were no reservations for the next 3 days which we found not to be very accurate because the restaurants were never full. - I didn't find the staff to be as friendly and accommodating as we have experienced at previous all-inclusives. Every encounter felt very short and impersonal. The service at restaurants weren't the best - we rarely ever had our water/coffees refilled without asking, we were sometimes given the smallest table possible for 6 adults and a baby, and we seemed ignored every time we asked for a high chair and we had to go fetch one ourselves each time. Also to note, we had one of our waitresses snatch my 9 month old nephew out of my dad's arms at dinner and hold him for about a minute without asking for permission before doing so. We did not appreciate that one bit. - The shows were okay. Some nights were better than others because there would be actual live singing. I did enjoy the costumes and the stage decor but overall the night entertainment was nothing very special. - Both my brother and SIL as well as my parents had someone pounding loudly on their doors at 10:30 pm saying room service even though none of them had ordered room service. Mind you, my brother and SIL had their sleeping baby at the time. On top of that, one employee even badged into and opened my brother's door before they could even get to the door to open it. On both occasions, whoever was standing at the door did not have anything with them to offer as "room service", did not apologize, and walked away without any further explanation. - While the app advertised daily activities on the beach, we didn't see a lot of the activities actually happen. They might not have enough participants to do the events but it didn't look like they tried to hard to recruit. - There was no beach or pool side service which was disappointing. It was probably because of all the wild animals (like the coatis, monkeys, and cats) around seeking food but that took away from the overall experience. - The quality of a lot of the alcoholic drinks were subpar and some of the standard drinks my brother requested the bartender didn't know how to make. - One of the primary walkways shared the same path as the shuttle cars and half the time you're walking, you're pressed to the side trying not to get hit by a passing shuttle car because the path is too small for both civilians and a car. Some pros: - Depending on who the barista was, the coffee some days was delicious (primarily the mocha frappucino). - The beach, while not fully enjoyable because of all the seaweed, had a really nice shaded breezy area where we spent every late afternoon laying out and taking a super relaxing nap on the chairs listening to the sounds of the palm trees swaying and the ocean. - Most of the walkways between the different buildings were nice and shaded with lots of greenery. - There were some employees I think that were paired with Expedia who were much more friendly and went more out of their way to help visitors better their overall experience. Based on our experience, we would choose elsewhere for our next destination.
