History
Established in 1997.
The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) opened its first school in Newton, MA in 1997 with the goal of creating a unique after-school mathematics program. Our hope was to build a systematic education based on the traditions of Russia and Europe and adapted to the needs of American students.
Today, RSM is one of the largest after-school math enrichment programs in the Northeast, and serves more than 10,000 students across six states. RSM Rocky Hill- RSM's first Connecticut branch- was founded in the summer of 2013.
Meet the Manager: Christopher G.
A native of Berlin, Connecticut, Chris was first introduced to the world of Russian Mathematics the summer before his freshman year of high school when he enrolled Russian Math Camp (Now Camp Sunapee). This early exposure to RSM's curriculum showed Chris just how far American math education had to go.
He remained connected to the RSM community throughout his high school and college careers. As an undergraduate at Harvard, he wrote his senior thesis on the Russian School of Mathematics. After working for three years at the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough as a math teacher, curriculum consultant and SAT tutor, Chris joined RSM where he provided Algebra and Geometry instruction for students in grades 4-9, and worked directly on developing the curriculum and teacher training programs.
As Principal of RSM-Rocky Hill, Chris welcomes the opportunity to bring a deeper level of understanding and appreciation of math to an even wider range of students.
