The Village Voice was a one of a kind NYC alternative weekly newspaper founded in 1955 and won many…read moreawards over their print run, including Pulitzer Prizes. They had news bins all around the NYC area on street corners, but now exists only as an online website, but have continued to win news coverage awards. Over the years they featured groundbreaking articles and many talented writers and editors. You can view the archives on its site along with some recent content. It's just not the same to me as I used to enjoy reading the print edition over a coffee at my local diner or coffee house. It was a good read to learn about the arts, culture, music, dance, film, and theater reviews happening in the NYC area.

Kudos to John Sutter and his team for the Sept. 29 launch of Chelsea Now, a new free weekly…read moredistributed in Chelsea and nearby environs. The first edition, a 32-page tabloid, is an excellent debut. Features -- and therefore areas of coverage -- include the Chelsea club scene and its relationship with area police, local restaurants and bars, area crime, community news, cultural events, editorial commentary, and the arts. There are several ways to interact with the paper's staff -- and thereby help direct its coverage as it finds its legs -- including a Web site, a gossip hotline, requests for news tips, and letters of comment. I was impressed by how timely the first issue was -- stories featured in that day's major dailies were also included in this upstart weekly -- and I hope that they're able to maintain that level of local reportage. Worth picking up if you live, work, or go out in the neighborhood! And it's one of the better neighborhood papers I've come across.

I first discovered this paper when it was being given away free in English and Mandarin around the…read morecity in bright yellow boxes around the city.I enjoyed reading it as it had a section on health,current affairs and the arts it was the first paper to discuss the orgin of Covid and to discuss what the chinese government was doing to their citizens then it went online,and would ask for a $1.00 subscription for a limited time.Even though I prefer reading actual newspapers as opposed to online,I would subscribe periodically.Im sorry that gentlemen had that bad experience,if it really happened,but if you're ever overcharged for anything you can appeal to your bank to investigate,plus he has proof in his email of the subscription cost...it's easily remedied if it really happened.But you should know that the Chinese government is always trying to spy on its citizens both here and abroad and threaten them with persecution of their relatives.Most recently they convinced Apple to remove the app that citizens within China to communicate with each other.They make the Russians look like choir boys.As they infiltrated universities across America,bought up farm land so that local farmers can't compete with them,they are also in league with cartels in Mexico shipping fentanyl across the border.Sometimes it even makes it's way into the marijuana that's being sold.Unfortunately the American public will not hear about these things as they've bought some of our politicians at the highest level,hopefully this will come out if we have not completely lost our moral compass.
