Until last week, I lived in the Detroit, MI area for my entire adult life (I'm over 50. Let's leave…read moreit at that). Then I arrived in sunny SW Florida. One of the hardest things about this move has been finding vendors and service people for all types of needs - doctors, a vet, a manicurist, an electrician - you name it. I don't have any type of area network to help me out. One of the things I needed before I arrived was a fence installed around my 1 acre+ property to make it doggie safe. I did the requisite on-line research and asked who I could for a recommend. Carter was not my husband's first choice, but Ken Carter, the owner, got on the phone himself and pleaded his case. He gave my husband his cell phone number, and worked with him on the price as closely as he could. After we approved his plans, he continued to work hard for us - making suggestions, keeping us informed, meeting our deadlines. Our beautiful new fence, with two electric gates and a dog run area, was finished last week, just after we arrived. I now know several of the workers by name and they all gave me their cell phone number and assured us that we could call. Anytime. Carter was not the cheapest estimate we had in our hands, but I have no doubt that it was the best. There just isn't any way their product, service, and people could be any better.

First, they, (unlike many other roofing businesses in the area) we're responsive in getting back to me and scheduling time to come out. I received a quote which I thought was competitively priced and detailed plan. They came out on time, completed the work in a timely manner and frankly saved me from more damage and money by completing it before the next rainy season. They also guaranteed their work for a year! I highly recommend using them. It was a pleasure dealing with Jr and the team, you get the feeling that they take pride in their work and don't treat you like just another customer like some do. We hired Ken Dorian (Dorian Construction) to do a complete gut renovation of our 2 bedroom, 2…read morebathroom condo. The experience was very frustrating, surprising and disappointing. We would not recommend Dorian Construction and would never do business with Ken Dorian in the future. Ken's price came somewhere in the middle of 3 quotes. He seemed like an easy guy to work with and assured us that he did great work and that we'd be happy. We read reviews and all were positive. Unfortunately, our experience was negative! Ken surprised us soon after the project began with an "up charge" in the amount of $20,000 via email with no explanation, no advance notice, no conversation. Eventually, we were told it was for extra electrical work. Importantly, the job took way too long too! We always expect delays when it comes to construction projects but not like what we experienced with Dorian Construction. We live out of town and were not at the job site more than monthly but since Ken promised us he'd be there every day, we thought we would be kept in the loop. We were wrong. We constantly had to reach out to Ken because we never heard from him. Countless times, he didn't return calls, texts or emails. Everything was always on his schedule, not ours. We were 1,300 miles away and were forced to track him down because he didn't keep us apprised of what was going on during critical times during the project. That's when mistakes were made. The incorrect bath tile began to be installed, the kitchen cabinet install had damage, the fridge cabinet door was installed incorrectly, the range hood vent never happened, to name a few. The quality of his subs was average. The tile work was sloppy and we still have an area of the wall in a bathroom that is jetting out. Kitchen cabinets are scratched, there is damage to floor tile. Just not what we expected based on Ken's continuing reassurance that everything was going smoothly. Ken is not a builder. He is a project manager, and a "hands off" one at best. Our clear sense is that he has too many projects going on at once (even his subs alluded to that). In reading the previous reviews it's clear that our project was more involved. He told us he did our type of project every day so we had confidence that it would be a smooth process. We were wrong! We typically don't write reviews but it'sespecially important to share when the experience is bad.

To make matters worse, the…read morebuilder of my upstairs condo unit (rhymes with Toll Brothers) had installed the original screens backward, which left the pickets on the outside and therefore impossible to wipe off. Furthermore, I had installed electric hurricane shutters inside the lanai, and there was no way to replace the screens without taking down the shutters, resulting in a labor charge several times the cost of just replacing the screens. Jeremy from Ace analyzed my situation and decided the best course of action was to replace the deteriorated aluminum frames and pickets with new material, reassembling everything in the correct orientation, all for little more than I would have paid in labor to take down and put up the hurricane shutters. I now have a beautiful new lanai screen that I can easily keep clean, and future re-screenings will be a breeze. I can't thank Ace enough for providing fast, dependable service at a fair price.

Both in the volume of things that had to be done, and the level of difficulty. Over time many roots from nearby trees had burrowed under many areas. This required resetting many of the pathways and installing new concrete edging to keep the pavers in place. Years ago one of my customers mentioned Compact Pavers, and how happy he was with their work. I had the same experience. Javier (owner) came by and reviewed what I wanted done. I had the estimate the next day, and his 3 man crew was here the next week. Took them a little over a day to complete everything we need repaired. We were very happy with the results.
